bunny won’t come when called.

My bunny Kingi, he’s been bonded with Sniper our bunny girl and they are soulmates now. Only issue is, since he bonded with Sniper October-november 2014 last year, til this day he still doesn’t know he’s name and won’t come when he is called, only comes when I say Nana or yum yum or snacky insisting there is a treat. We got him when he was 5months old after we got Sniper. We got Sniper in July 2014.
I’ve tried calling him by his name while holding a treat in my hand but he won’t come for it unless I say what treat it is. We changed his name when we got him, Does having a new name have anything to do with his lack of response when we call for him?

Sniper on the other hand will come when we call her name and call her for treats treats.

Please help help,
with tips or advice.

When you train dogs you often establish the behavior first and then you add the command when the dog knows the behavior. Maybe you could sit on the floor and stretch out your hand with a treat in it, and say his name when he comes to take it. Do it over and over (you need to use really small treats so you can give him many). This is so he makes a connection between his name and sth nice (a treat).

If he doesn’t immediately come near your hand to take the treat, this method rather requires that you wait for him to come to you. I e he should offer the behavior. You reward it and say his name. Repeat again and again.

What is this place you speak of where bunnies come when called? Sounds like somewhere my boys need to go!   I’m kidding!

Seriously though, I agree with the others. A lot of bunnies don’t come when called, unless treats are involved. And then it’s just the crinkling of the treat bag that gets their attention.   Yep, that’s all I’m good for. Naners.

I like Bam’s idea of trying to get him to associate his name with something nice.

If Olly has some banana I will cut it into two small pieces, hold it up and say. “Number 1.” He will run to me, eat a piece, then I say. “Number 2.” and he will eat that, if there is nothing left he will search my bags, but will sometimes come to me if I pat my chest and say. “Come Olly.”
