My two rabbits have been bonded for over 10 months now, they are both neutered and we havent had any major problems with litter training till now- Most of their poop and all of the pee would go into the litterbox, there would be a couple of poops outside the litterbox.

Recently, most of their poop is near the litterbox ( but not inside) but they would still pee inside their litterbox. Im not sure why they are doing this all of a sudden, the only change to their cage would be that we have put in a new water bowl, we have also added different types of hay to their diet (we still feed them their usual hay). I also noticed that their poop has gone significantly larger- dont know if this is related.

Im pretty sure its not related to their health as apart form their litter training their behaviour and their eating habits have remained the same. I know its both of them as their are too many poops outside for one rabbit.

Thank you for reading, any advice is welcomed.

Is the water bowl still in the same place? Willow won’t poo in her box if her water is near it. She wants her water several feet away from the litter box. Hay in box.

I agree with Mimsy. Sometimes a change in “furniture arrangement” may not be to your bunnie’s liking. Guin poops outside her litter box when the border of her area is fleece. So when I replace the 12-inch wide border strip all the way along the walls in her bedroom – with towels instead of fleece, she poops in her litterbox again. I’ve just added 3 rabbits to “her” room, so she is pooping EVERYWHERE again. Point is – the weirdest furniture setup fetish coudl cause yoru bunny to poop outside the box. It’s their way of reclaiming what us humans have disrupted.Do you still have the old water bowl?

I’m not sure about your cleaning schedule, but I know my older girl a few years back decided that my level of cleanliness was no longer acceptable to her. So whenever she felt like the box was too dirty, she would just stop using it and go directly outside of it. She especially started getting a dislike for when her bonded friend would use the box too much before she got around to using it.

A new item could’ve done it too. I made the horrid mistake of getting them a new litter box once that wasn’t identical to their old one and they just would not use it. It was the same size and the same height but the outer lip was just ever so slightly different. I did everything to get them to use it! Eventually I had to go and buy the exact same style of litter box they used to have and all was right with the world again. Thankfully it was a common brand!

In other words, I have a lot of poop all over my floor a lot more frequently than I’d like.

Hi everyone, sorry for replying so late. Thank you for all your advice. We decided not to move anything and clean the litter box more frequently and the poop seems to have died down.
