Hi everyone. So Mr. Bun-bun I have found will not eat hay. I am perplexed. Because of his breed I only offer Timothy hay. However, he will not touch even if it is all I offer. I have sat for hours making hay balls for him and nothing. I have recently (tonight) just discovered that if I make him mad he will eat it. However this can’t be healthy for his digestive tract. Any ideas on how to get him to eat it without turning him into Mr. Hyde bun? I desperate please help.

For how long has he avoided hay?
Sometimes you have to try different types of hay. Timothy is good hay but not the only bunny-appropriate hay. They can eat orchard or oat hay or botanical or meadow f ex. Whether a bunny likes a hay or not can also depend on the cut (at what time in the year the hay was harvested). First cut is harvested in late spring, it’s generally coarse and tough, then as the season wears on, the hay gets increasingly soft and leafy.

Sometimes a bunny can be enticed to eat if you top the hay up with a topper, there are toppers with dandelion or rose-petals etc.

Getting a bunny to enough eat hay is unfortunately a common problem.
