I was surprised today to see a bunny greet me when I went to the local Petsmart today.  He’s up for adoption at the local “Lowcountry Animal Rescue” group, and he’s absolutely adorable.  Apparently this morning the group found another pair of bunnies dumped at their door in a cage overnight, and waiting for them when the came to open up the doors… so now they have multiple bunnies.

This little guy doesn’t have a name yet, but he’s listed as a florida white, despite the fact that he has muted/barely-visible english spot pattern pastel in his white… so I think he’s a mix.  He wanted pretty bad to get to people and licked my fingers through his cage.  They only had a wire bottom to bring him to adoption events in, but he’s currently staying in a smooth bottom cage/play-area at a foster home, awaiting a forever home.

The picture doesn’t do him justice.  He’s adorable and between the size of my TIlly and Duncan, so I’m guessing about 6lbs.  They adopt bunnies for $75, to off-set costs of hay, feed, and spay/neutering.

I don’t know how many other BBers are in the Charleston area of South Carolina, but if you or any of your non BB friends are looking for a love-bug bun, he definitely fits the bill.   I would have brought him home with me if we didn’t already have 3 pets and are renting.

I’m keeping an eye out for when they get their 2 new buns sexed and ready for adoption. So far Mr. Bunny is still in foster care awaiting adoption. I’ll keep people updated on him if I find out he’s found a home, or if someone is interested in him I may be able to head down to the shelter and get some additional pictures or information on him for you.

Meanwhile, I saw a positng for Charlotte, NC of a bunny name Ike (via petfinder.com). He’s got such a unique look to him! He appears to be a lionhead-tan mix, at least to me. Not much information on him other than his picture and where is his. He’s located at:
Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control
            8315 Byrum Drive

Those bunny’s are so cute! I actually saw Ike on Pet Finder (I’m in SC) I’m currently looking for a bun to bond with my rabbit Speckles, but I looked at Ike on Pet Finder and they didn’t have any description for him, which I find super annoying because he is so cute!

He is adorable. If you were wanting to make the trip for him, I’m sure that they would talk to you over the phone as far as providing more information. Many shelters also have internet contacts for more information on possible adoptions.

Not sure where you are in SC, but the Charleston House Rabbit Society has only one adoptable listed on Petfinder (Hazel) and he’s been there for some time now. He looks like a sweety, but I just can’t take in a newbie right now since we just took in our Duncan. There are also a ton of bunnies in the Columbia area that have been looking for homes for a while.

I hope that you find your Speckles a bond mate. Just remember that it’s easier to bond when they’re spayed/neutered. Most shelters spay/neuter the buns before adopting out; but always a good idea to find out how rabbit savvy the shelter is and whether they did the procedure or if the bunny was already altered… as mistakes can be made. Our Duncan tricked the ladies at the shelter by hiding his family jewels until he got home with us and he smelled our lady bun.
