i don't know if this is the right section, sorry! my boyfriend and i found a bonded pair of rabbits wandering the neighborhood last night and he managed to catch each one and cage them. it took a while! our landlord told us he'd been seeing them around for a couple weeks and helped us corner the much friskier black one, and they look pretty young, we're guessing they're easter bunnies that one of the families in the area either lost or released...
so we have both of them in a cage now, eating, sharing a room with but separated from our other two bunnies. i guess we need to get them checked up for any illness, like worms, fleas, idk, disease, injury, anything that can hurt our bonded pair, but that can get expensive! we're hoping if we could get them to a shelter and have them check them over and/or spayneuter them and then we foster or adopt them after... but no luck so far. even just getting their genders and if they're spayed/neutered checked costs a ton. it sucks that we can't just keep and rehome them! i'm almost tempted to start a kickstarter or donation page for these poor guys. we would consider adopting them in the long run since we were moving to a bigger place soon... but we can't afford to spay/neuter them ourselves. any thoughts would be helpful!
we think the black one is a girl, she honks a lot and squeaks when the big old blonde guy gets near her because he keeps mounting her. we're not sure if it's territorial or breeding or what, we're not even sure the genders and don't know at all if the'yre spayed or neutered. is there an easy way to check their genders at least? they don't like to be handled but i could probably manage a bit. they're definitely bonded though.. they haven't left each other for at least two weeks in the wild and they lie around together and cuddle and groom. poor guys have definitely been hungry the neighbors have been leaving out fruit for them though, which is nice. we're the first ones who could catch the black one though! (my boyfriend's persistence definitely paid off )
anyway just thought i'd post our situation and pictures and see if anyone has advice. we've talked to a lot of vets with no luck but we're in the lower mainland of BC, Canada and are pretty much willing to travel that whole area if a vet would be willing to sex them, check for spay/neuter, even spay or neuter for a rebated price or free maybe? this could also be done through a shelter if they're willing to adopt them or to us or let us foster them after. we could easily care for them or home them if they're healthy and at least one is fixed
this was very long, i'm sorry haha.
(i also attached a picture of petra and mango, our lionhead and lop! their safety is our top priority!should we be housing them more separately?)
