I was wondering if it is really so horrible to use normal cat litter when the bunnies don’t come into direct contact with the litter, like with scatterless litter pans and cages with the wire rack underneath. I have been using a corn litter in their cage (with the bottom tray that slides out), I apperciate the clumping effect but the odor is bad no matter what. I currently only use hay in their pan litter box and just clean it out everyday but it would be nice to not have a bad smell still around. People comment on it and it is embarrassing. I have tried recycled litter, newspaper and hay, carefresh, baking soda and such but still smell is a problem. So would it really be bad if I got a new scatterless litter box and started using a dust free cat litter?

I use clay litter in Nermal Nomnoms cage tray. It has a grid over the top and she mainly uses it to pee. Her hay is next to it. She has never tried to get the grid off and eat it. She has a hay tray in her play pen though, she loves to lounge in it.

I don’t see any issue if you have like a grid/screen overtop-it’s generally an issue if they eat it I think or can inhale it. But sounds like your set up is just fine for it.
