I’ve been looking around for potential litter box fillings for Chito. So far, I’ve been hitting no luck with litters such as carefree or yesterday’s news. Kaytee is so, so very expensive. I began to look up wood stove pellets and I found this one:

        http://www.supremecarbon.com/wood.htm

and since I don’t know anything about wood pellets, I’d like some advice whether this is okay to use or not, and what questions should I ask the maker if needed? Thanks!

The picture looks just like what we use for Pumpkin. The nice thing about the wood stove pellets is they are so cheap! We paid $5 for a 40 pound bag! There a few members who use the wood pellets who will likely chime in. I switched from paper to litter to the pellets on advice from here.

Hi LLH! Thanks for the response. Does wood stove pellets have expiry dates or something? Would it be better to buy in bulk or not and how many pounds do you use per month? I’ve never kept a litterbox before (chito has a tray) so info will be appreciated :3

I really don’t think it would go bad! We just bought the 40 pound bag a couple weeks ago…I’m estimating it will last us a few months at the least…it’s huge! I like it b/c I feel it contains the urine smell well and is easy to clean up

Oh thank God. Okay, I’ll order some as soon as we can expand chito’s lair! She’s looking for new lands to conquer as usual :”D

Thanks so much, LLH! Send my kisses to your Princess!

I have not yet tried to arrange wood stove pellets for Moshu.. I’ll see what their prices are the coming year. I use newspaper, galvanized metal litter screen and chaff in her litter box. Chaff works okayish.

Chaff works? Does it contain the urine smell too? One of the media in my potted plants is chaff (is burnt one okay)!

Well…I realized it could be the cause of diarrhea in my little one. Read my new post under the Diet and Care section.

Thanks beebun. The diarrhea is gone. She’s on an antibiotic for 5 days.

Did you buy any wood pellets yet ?

When I was on my search for wood pellets, I read on the forums that I should ask if there are additives, so I asked the manufacturer that. The package of the pellets I got says “no additives”on the cover.

I only bought two bags, but I wasn’t sure how my bunny would react to them at first. Now it’s a question of storage space, but if you’ve tested them out and your bunny is fine with them, I would stock up on them in case some stores sell them seasonal basis!

Hi! Sadly all three of the wood pellet suppliers I contacted didn’t contact me back for the meantime, chito’s litterbox is stuffed with shredded paper and hay. She’s getting really good at it too!

Thank you, avantika and kbun for your kind suggestions. Will be sure to check on the additional ingredients of the pellets when I get in touch with other suppliers!
