While giving Pete a little bit of simethicone he got over-zealous and stole the dropper from me; pretty normal for him.  The problem this time is that when I pulled the dropper out of his mouth he jerked back and tore the end of the dropper off.   Not only that, he swallowed it and then tried to get the dropper back from me by covering my hand in kisses.  The piece he swallowed was plastic, and pretty small, but I hate the idea that it is in his system now.  I haven’t seen any indication so far that it’s causing any upset with him, but I’m keeping an eye on him.  I intend to call his vet tomorrow if he starts acting out of the ordinary…

Am I overreacting?  Or not enough?  Has anyone else had a bunny eat a dropper before?

Do you know exactly how big the piece was that he ate?

He swallowed the tip.. a little over half the size of an apple seed? He seems to be fine.. but I’m having the heartburn for both of us.

Give the vet a call and see what they say, in the interim try to get him to eat hay and veg to help moves things through. The simethicone may help too that is already in his tummy by lubricating things a bit.

I’m assuming he will be fine. He most likely chewed it up before swallowing. Just keep a close eye on him for the next couple of days and alert your vet if he stops eating, pooping or appears lethargic.

I spoke with his vet this morning after they opened up.  They said to just keep an eye on him and watch for any changes, but they don’t expect any.  Last night he ate at least two big handfuls of orchard grass and some of his timothy.  He devoured his morning salad, and has been running and doing binkies through the living room this morning, so most likely he will be fine.  I just have to monitor him and his poops…
He just found a new way to worry his momma. On the bright side… no gas today.

Bunnies love to worry their Moms, especially by eating crazy things. I’ve had my share of scares in the 10+ years of bunny parenting. It probably won’t be your last. No matter how careful we are, they are so sneaky with getting into things.

                      Vibes for Peter!!!

Yohio once ate a big piece, like 2 sq inches, of a hot water-bottle =( This was more than a year ago, so his recent illness had nothing to do with that incident. But still. Dam bunny, as Andi says. I never saw any sign of any form of distress in connection with the hot-water-bottle. I’m pretty sure I gave him simethicone though for the reason Roberta mentions, it’s lubricating.

I think bunnies are the worst animals in the world when it comes to worrying their parents.

                        UPDATE:
Peter seems to have done fine with his “plastic snack.”  There was a little bit of a scare last night when he used the box because he had fewer poos, made up of double-poos and smaller poos with some fur in it… but it was already after his vet had closed for the day.  After opening a fresh bag of hay and getting his dinner he went back to his box and built a little normal-poo mountain. Looks like we’re in the clear.

This morning I found him sitting on the couch staring at the blank TV (not uncommon if the hubby had been watching before going to work… Monkey see, monkey do), and he came to greet me and get his breakfast.

Thank you,  for the input and vibes.

Peter, Peter, plastic-eater… had a mom, but couldn’t keep her (sane)

LOL! Never a dull moment with Peter! BTW, I’ve heard some bunnies like to watch tv. Maybe he’d appreciate some cartoons? I believe AH’s Henry ate the buttons off her remote so she couldn’t change the tv off of the cooking channel!
