Frappe has some really bad matted fur on his bum. And i try to comb it out but he always squirms and i can tell it hurts him. I went away on a trip for a week and had my neighbor take care of him. She didnt clean his cage as often as i liked her to. At that time i was using news paper… Not the best litter.. And i need some help. I tried cutting it but he wont stay still. Any help??

Sometimes the only thing you can do is cut it. You have to be very careful though because their skin is so elastic. You don’t want to accidentally cut them. If I need to rid Wooly of a mat, I use blunt dog grooming scissors. I hold them so the flat side of the blades are facing the skin and I carefully snip it off (being careful to not cut closer to the skin than I have to). I never try to pull on the fur while cutting because the skin will stretch with it.

Do you have someone who can hold him while you snip?

Bindi gets really matted fur near his bum too. A life saving tool is one of those small battery powered pet trimmers. You can get them at Walmart for about $10.00. It’s great because you don’t need to worry about cutting the skin. The noise is quite mild. Bindi doesn’t mind at all.
