Ok so i have tried to use fleece for my dear little Butterscotch, But whenever i do she chews the paper towel i put under so i’ve been putting weights down like bricks, But she pulls them out  I have been using fleece with nothing absorbent and it smells SO bad like ammonia, I have not done much research on litter, But i bought this HUGE bag of aspen, It was kiln dried? (don’t know if that matters) Is this okay for them? Please let me know!

Kiln-dried aspen is safe for rabbits, but you will want to make sure that she does not take to eating it, as wood can cause GI blockages if too much is eaten.

As a general rule, stay away from any pine or cedar beddings, as they contain harmful polyphenols.

Aspen works well with short haired rabbits but long haired ones like lionheads it gets in their fur and starts knots.
We helped rehome a lionhead and had to cut out the matted hair. Recycled newspaper pellets do not make much of a mess and are lots of fun for rabbits to dig in.

I notice that you have bedding in your profile pic. Are you still covering the entire cage floor with bedding? Does she have a litterbox? If not, removing all bedding and only using it in a litterbox (at least a regular cat box size) and placing that litterbox where she likes to go to the bathroom will help with training. That way you can quickly remove to clean and it won’t be such a mess. Also a lot of rabbits LOVE to pee on soft things, so it’s better in that case to just leave the rest of her floor bare.

I also once used kiln-dried aspen. However, I realized that, it seemed my bunny ate some of it, and i immediately changed into litterbox, which proved to be more useful.

Oh and, I use Aspen in my litterboxes. Love the smell of it, the buns do nibble at it occasionally, but not too much.

Ok thanks, She is a short haired Helicopter-eared dwarf rabbit, She does not eat it and she hops on top of her solid roofed plastic house sometimes, She does not however have a litter box, I want one really badly, But my mom won’t let me get one, She says they are too overpriced for what they are used for… Any ideas for homemade ones? Keep in mind she doesn’t have much space in her cage, (i let her out for floor time twice a day daily)

                          Hi,

I googled around for the cheapest litterbox I could find and saw this one: Nature’s Miracle Nature’s Miracle small Wonder Small Animal Litter Box

It sells between $2.37 and $4.49. $4.49 is Petsmart price.

I think my son got ours, which was originally for a kitten, from a dollar store for about $4 too.

I got my initial litterboxes from the Family Dollar and The Dollar Store too, for $4. Regular cat box size.
