I wish I had a larger place, there is the guy on craigslist that got to many buns (as snake food) there are 10 left and one is pregnant which he wasnts an adoption fee for all and more for the preg bunny. Should i try & contact a rescue? I know the 2 around here are pretty full to the point they are waiving adoption fees. I just went back to see if I could post it and the person removed it..grrrr……

The sad thing is that he will probably continue to get more – it can be a never ending cycle and I feel the same way you do. I know when I see stuff like this I flag it too. Craiglist removes inappropriate listings if someone brings it to their attention.

As screwy as it is something like that I would rather stay up so at least maybe some of them actually have a chance . I think he posted a few months back too. . I wish i could foster and rescue, I’ve recued a few animals, most have just ended up with me. what I wouldn’t give to have a house….

I agree – I would much rather see these rabbits get a chance for a good home than have a breeder post their rabbits for sale on Craiglist. I do hope some of them got a chance. I do have to wonder though if he is a breeder and he is just saying they are snake food to get rid of them – just a thought that popped in my head.

We had a wacko a while back on the Los Angeles craigslist – she posted this ad that said “I have a bad bunny and I don’t like him and I’ll give him away free to anyone as snake food. I don’t care where he goes just let me know what kind of dinner he will be” and it was SOOOO horrifying!!

Well, it turns out this lady was P.O’d because she’d called some rescues because she didn’t want her bunny anymore, and the rescues turned her down because there is no room. So she posted THAT ad to get people riled up… Then a few days later she posted this total anti-rescue ad saying “o, I posted that I wanted to find a rabbit a good home and no rescue would help me but then I posted I was going to make this rabbit into food and all of a sudden all these rescues want to help me” and basically slammed rescues for not helping her, and for people that had written to her when she was trying to re-home her bunny telling her that she was abandoning it.

I got SOOOOO mad I wrote her this whole letter about “how about you go volunteer at a rescue to make more room instead of making the problem worse” – probably not the best idea but my face is getting red just THINKING about the whole ordeal. Wish I could meet that lady and have Juli pee on her.

We don’t have any rabbit rescues here in my area. How do I find out of there is a large need for one? I would love to help out at one and maybe foster buns.

Forgive me if rescues care more about a rabbit in danger of being eaten than some dope who bought a rabbit and then got tired of him.  What a loser.  I swear, people think we all sit around just waiting for the phone to ring.  "Oh sure, we’ll take your sick, unsocialized and negelected rabbit, we’ll just tell those meanies at the shelter they can kill another one so I can take your dumped companion".  People just have no clue what a delicate balancing act it is to keep these animals alive sometimes.

Medinaserpa, here’s a link to the Oregon House Rabbit Society Chapter, I would contact them:

                        http://www.rabbit.org/chapters/oregon/

Even if you don’t foster for them there are tons of ways to help them – if they aren’t close they can certainly steer you to a shelter or rescue group closer to you if there is one. It’s the best place for you to start.

We have sanctuary/foster sites as far away as Oklahoma and Arizona and we are located in the San Francisco area, so there are likely to be ways you can help if you have the space and the time.  I do not know where you are in the state, have you checked this list? rabbit.org/links/sections/groups.html Are any of them near you?

I just checked it out and it is about 2 hours away. And that is the only one listed for oregon. I will e-mail them and see what I can do to help.

That is the one that is 2 hours away. They had a link to our local humaine society and they had I think 5 buns in there for adoption. Maybe I will go and see if they need any help. I would love to play with the buns.

Oh my, I just read the add for the bunnies and the people who are posting about it. Those poor things, look how beautiful the Rex’s are. I think they are Rex. And they are just in the smallest box. I didn’t see any water either. Poor things.

Medinaserpa – Even if there is not a local group nearby, if there is a local ASPCA or city shelter, you could arrange with them to help the bunnies there. Bunnies are put to sleep at a MUCH faster pace than dogs or cats, and are often mistreated and neglected at these shelters. If you could even get one out to foster, or help socialize one that is there, or even give the shelter your name for when a bunny comes in so they don’t put it to sleep and instead give it to you to foster, you could make a big difference. One of our members Hedi did a lot of work at a local shelter helping by getting the buns hay, and fresh vegetables, and helping to get them adopted. Here is one of the posts about it – and there are more in the rescue bunnies section.
