Well after consulting our pet insurance to confirm they would cover another rabbit we have finally decided to rescue one particular little lady.
She was in the same adoption centre we rescued our last bun, Navi from.
She’s been in there for six/seven months, and is apparently only 14months old and un-spayed.
As we’ve been frequenting the charity run adoption centre (Which actually operates from within a pet shop) We’ve noticed a number of buns come and go, except this one lady. She was a little over weight months ago when we rescued Navi, but she’s getting bigger and bigger, clearly, nobody wants her…
Anyway, We’ve just brought her home and letting her settle in a little before we properly meet her.
After lifting her out of the box, I could feel that she actually isn’t a big bun, but she’s carrying a fair amount of weight, also, her hind legs, due to spending half her life in a little pen, they have atrophied somewhat… She has very little muscle mass.
Spending half her life in a 1.5m square pen definitely doesn’t do a buns body any good
But, she’ll now be put on a healthy diet and slowly introduced to our other fluffies as we build her health and confidence.
Her ears look fake! She looks so pretty and soft. Congratulations on your new girl!
Congratulations RetroSquid – I love that you chose to take ‘her’ home. Have you chosen a name yet? I’m desperate to know…. Lol!
I ‘think’ we may have settled on the name Tetra for the lady.
She seems to be settling in rather quickly.
We have ferrets and cats as well as buns, so there are a lot of predator smells, but after getting to roam the bedroom a little while ago and after Navi darted out of her room and upto the cage, she definitely already a tad more confident that I was expecting.
She desperately needs her claws clipping, too, but we’re going to wait until she trusts us a little more before we attempt that…
She’s so pretty – I love the black rabbits myself. She is so lucky to be coming home with you too.
So…. Is it Tetra?
Congratulations. She is beautiful. For some reason black dogs are the last to be adopted, I wonder if the same applies to rabbits.
I would like to see more pictures lol
What a pretty bun congrats!
Just thought I’d add a few photo’s of our little (not so little) girl…
Tetra didn’t really fit, she’s now called Daisy, and is on the pet insurance as Daisy, so, she’s stuck with it now! ^_^
She’s becoming quite the confident little lady…
She’s clearly enjoying her first proper run around…
To think, she’s spent over half her life in a smallish rehoming/display cage…
She won’t sit still long enough to get a good photo…
She ran at me at the sound of the camera…
Typically, that was the corner she had decided to pee in…
Which, Link wasn’t overly happy about, considering it’s his room… o_O
Speaking of Link, he’s doing better and his attitude towards me has improved dramatically over the past few days. So, here’s a couple of him!
He’s the only bun springy enough to be able to hop up onto the bed. ^_^
yessss my wish was granted
See looks so uncomfortable when running about… As though her legs are too far apart because of her extra weight…
But, she’s still very active and on a healthy diet.
First trip to the vets on Sunday for a health check and to see how much of a problem her weight will be regarding getting her spayed, because, at 14months old, it feels very late…
And she humps my wife…
I “LOVE” the name Daisy! When I used to have puppies (yes, idiot me named them as soon as they were born, ha hah!), and the one I named “Daisy”, the owner (lovely lady) kept her name, how cool!
The photo’s are fantastic! (Gosh, your house is clean… Lol!). And humps your wife? Jealous???? (Did you tell her she was doing it wrong?) Ha hah!
*sigh* I do desperately want a dog, but, I think, for now, we have our hands full…
Three cats, three ferrets and now three buns (Also a dozen or so tropical fish)
I think Link is a little miffed at having to alternate while Beauty gets out… He just hasn’t been the same towards his old bonded pal Navi since she came back from an operation. But, with any luck, now he’s feeling better, we can start re-bonding them.
Navi is so nice and submissive towards him, she looks like she really misses him, but he just nips her, grunts and runs away…
Anyway… More photos…
I know this is the BinkyBUNNY forum, and ferrets eat bunnies… But not my ferrets!!
So, images of all the flat mates!
Ferrets generally being ferrety…
Shovel and Bowser
Shush
Link, comfortable at home on the bed with Aryll and Bubblegum.
Navi’s room (Yep she has her own room for now)
And yep, Aryll is acting sentinel…
And Navi, when Aryll isn’t around, feels the need to seek the highest point and watch over her room…
How cool! So, where do you and the Mrs live? Down the road? Ha hah ha hah…..
^ LMAOOOOO (to AndHenry – that was a great one!)
Just wanted to say congrats! She’s a real beauty!
Good on you TL14 – I thought it was a good one too, ha hah hah ha hah! (I’ll try and stop complaining about my living arrangements with Henry now). Gotta laugh! Good on RetroSquid!
AndHenry, I don’t know if this is an inside joke, I’m missing something or just slow?!… But, eh, what’s going on?!
Anyway…
We had a bit of news from the vet about Link, and the recent results from his E cuniculi blood tests, and it shows no reduction in the proteins, blah blah blah…
So we’re to start him on more Panacure and maintain the Metacam, also, we’re to reduce his stress levels as much as possible, so, instead of playing musical chairs with him and Daisy (we were caging Link and swapping him for Daisy in our bedroom for a while) we’re now going to partition Navi’s room to allow them to coexist, sort of, and get used to each other while we continue to get Daisy’s weight down.
We swapped Daisy and Navi around for a little bit today to allow Daisy to explore Navi’s room…
They’re the only two images I could get really, she wouldn’t keep still. Running everywhere, even a couple of rather sizeable binkies from her!
The partition should arrive on Saturday, so, it’s more “musical chairs” with the ladies for now.
Bink is remaining our bedroom bun!! ^_^
Sorry RetroSqiud – no way was that an ‘inside’ joke, I just think TL14 picked up on ‘my’ humour that “I” thought your house looked like it was perfectly set up for ‘all’ your housemates, and wondered if there was any room left for you and the Mrs…. If anything it was a compliment, I just chose to express it in (what I thought?) would be funny…. Sorry RetroSquid, my sense of humour is dry and I am a bugga for trying to find humour in most things in life when I can. I adore all your housemates (the pic’s are awesome – thank you for sharing!) and I love that they are housed throughout your home. (Just like my Henry, but sometimes I find it annoying, ha ha hah), so good on you RetroSquid! No Joke! Lol…
Ah, that makes sense now… ^_^ went right over my head!
Aye, the furries are fully integrated into our home. Bedroom is Link’s, Navi (and soon Daisy) have the second bedroom, the ferrets have the living room and dining room. Cat’s have anywhere and everywhere. ^_^ ha, get no peace or privacy, but wouldn’t have it any other way!!
Daisy is rather keen on her ropeball.
We were giving her her daily runabout in Navi’s room today (The partition should arrive tomorrow, so she’ll finally and genuinely have her own space then)
But for now, she seems quite pleased with her little area…
So much so that she was binkying around like a loon… Until she spotted her ropeball…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqsFGvEOXnE
The video with the ball? ADORBS!
I can rewatch the clip over and over… She looks so happy and proud, almost as though she’s just showing off how fantastic she is!
I can’t believe she’s spent half of her life sitting in a little rehoming pen… She’s got such a fantastic character, and, I get the feeling she’ll lose the weight rather quickly now she’s on a proper bunny diet and actually gets the opportunity to run and jump and bink!
She’s such a happy lady!
And, when the pen thing arrives (hopefully tomorrow) she’ll have half of our bun room as a semi-permanent home until she’s been spayed and can control herself and be friends with/not hump Navi, then she’ll share the whole room.
I LOVE THAT VIDEO! =) Thank you for sharing!
Oh Daisy! That’s so adorable
How adorable. What a great way to get her active as well :~)
Too cute – why doesn’t my Henry play like that????? I know Daisy is a lucky girl, but I reckon your even luckier!
Link doesn’t play like that anymore… I think, because daisy isn’t free to roam, she fully appreciates being out and about… Link, on the other hand, is such a grumpy little so-and-so… He just sits with his grumpy, ‘special’ looking mouth and ears… Then grunts at you if you venture too close…
Unless you have a small handful of pellets, then he’s your best friend… Cheeky little thing!!
Ahh I love the pics of the ferrets. I had 7 in the past not all at once. The most I had at one time was 4. They are funny little creatures.
They really are fantastic little things!
I have a boy who’s about 2 years and two girls… They’re very old and had a bit of a troubled start in life… Not very well at all now, both medicated for heart failure and adrenal disease…
One of them in particular isn’t very well… I don’t think she’s going to last much longer…
But she’s had a good, and happy life. Her twilight years have been fantastic! <3
I had one with Adrenal problems. That seems to be a common problem for them. Sorry to hear that your girls aren’t doing well.
Well, Daisy has had a checkup at the vets and her annual inoculations.
She’s going to need to lose a kilo before they’ll consider spaying her. The vet reckons well be back in approx three months.
And the partition for the bun room arrived today, so we can finally make permanent arrangements for her rather than the musical chairs we’ve been playing to ensure she get’s play time!
Well, the partition wasn’t a great success… It turns out that when there is another bun on the other side of it, Navi is rather capable of getting over it… So, we’ve set Daisy up in my office and used the partition to create a larger daytime space for her. She still swaps with Navi for play time on a daily basis, though, and we’re slowly getting Navi used to her smells. It’s just going to be a little awkward until the little’en loses to weight and we can start trying to bond hem properly…
*sigh*
Sorry, didn’t see your message there Sindriona. Yep, unfortunately, adrenal disease is very common in ferrets, it’s also very manageable if you have a vet that’s willing to think outside the box. It also helps that our ferret get has kept ferrets himself for 20 years ^_^ he’s an outstanding vet. If it wasn’t for him, they’d be long gone by now.
It’s the heart failure that’s a bigger issue, because, although they’re medicated, it’s not going to improve the muscle structure or strength of he heart, just going to stop it from getting worse. One of my girls is all swollen from excess fluid in her abdomen due to her heart not working correctly, but, because of her age, here is nothing that can be done… Just fighting the inevitable, really. But, they may be very tired and a little slow, but they’re still fantastic and happy!! <3
Just a little update on Daisy’s temporary living space.
As dividing our bun room to create a space for both Navi and Daisy didn’t exactly work… (Unfortunately, Navi wasn’t happy about it and was flying about all over the place… In hindsight, we were really stupid and, although we were dividing Navi’s space, she clearly just saw it as us moving a strange bun into her territory…)
But for now, Daisy is living beside me at the computer.
Bubblegum really seems to like the buns…
He was very close friends with our dearly departed bun Zelda. He hasn’t taken to any of the other buns quite as well, but he still seems to enjoy being around them. He’s such a beautiful, well natured cat!
Anyway, Daisy lives here during the day, then, in the evenings, we take her into Navi’s room and swap them around for a while.
Again, it isn’t ideal, but it’s a damn sight better than she had in the rehoming centre, and it’s only until she can be spayed and calms down so we can properly bond them.
For now, though, we also put them in their cages and put their cages side by side for a little while each day. Navi is less and less bothered by this new bun, so, hopefully, she’ll transition to company fairly well.
No photos today.
But, a little info about Daisy.
It appears she may be losing the weight rather quickly…
She has a fantastic diet now and is rather active. So, hopefully, she’ll lose the extra KG or so…
She has realised, that when she’s out and wants to binky, she has to remain on the rug in the middle of the room, so, yesterday, as uncontrollable and chaotic as her binkies were, she still managed to keep them within the confines of the smallish rug in the bun room.
There were two rugs, but we have one under her pen for the time being, but, this like of binkie-worth space has forced our hand and we’re getting carpet put down in the bun room this week. So, she’ll be able to binky wherever she wants, soon!
