        Hi, Guys,

Lately we have had some beautiful pix posted of our bunnies, but they are really large. Because they are low resolution, ie. 72 dpi, the computer accepts them. So, I’d like to ask you to resize them once they’re posted to stay within the width of a normal page. If you see that the box is past the blue on the right, and the text is running off, or if you have to move the slider to read/see the whole reply or post, then you’re too wide. Just go into edit, grab a corner and pull in to resize the whole image. If that doesn’t work, right click the image and change the width dimension to a smaller number with the proportions staying the same. Then hit submit.

It also makes more replies appear per page, so we don’t have as many posts running to 8, 11, 45 pages.

Thanks! “I’m ready for my close up, Mr. DeMille.”

This is not too wide, though it really is very, very big.

An example of what I mean is in the Lounge, October Picture Thread post, page 11.
Sam & Lady’s Human, I took the liberty of resizing your photo at the top. It was making the page too wide, so I went into
EDIT, (It took a long time to load there), clicked the photo so little white boxes showed at the corners and sides, grabbed one corner box and pulled in.
Once it was all visible within the box where your reply goes, it was small enough. I hit submit, and the whole page of posts lined up again.

So, if you post a photo and it turns out to be too wide, just Edit your own reply and pull your photo so it is within the box. You can make them shorter too, but the long skinnies that are from more phones lately fit vertically, even if they are a bit large.

Thanks, everyone! (My Mother thanks you, my Father thanks you, my bunny thanks you and I thank you. – James Cagney as George M. Cohan)

i know photobucket shrinks everything to 1024 pixels wide.

1024 slightly extends the white area of the forum by just half an inch. is this a big concern? not trying to tell you what to do, but a LOT of photos are hosted there so maybe retweaking the width of the white area to match it would be simpler.

I understand what you’re saying Mike. It’s not a big problem, and I can check with BB about it. Just that today I seem to be the photo police, because I’ve been in several threads where pix were various sizes, so made some changes myself and asked a couple of members to resize them as well. The thing is, it kind of is a big deal to resize the white frame for BB, siince it’s one of those overhaul tasks they need to add to their list that’s done infrequently. And no matter how wide, someone will always be posting even bigger pix. I didn’t know Photobucket defaulted to 1024. I can mention that to BB.

You can see where the text drops into the blue and becomes illegible, which is part of the problem. If it’s just once in a while I’m sure it’s no biggie. But I definitely wanted to post how to shrink them once posted because it is just so easy, but many members don’t yet know how to do it.

TIP: Set your camera or phone to take all pics at 400×600 (or 480×680 depending on the unit), or save them that size on your computer. This is the optimum size for email, downloads etc. It will save space on your memory cards, reduce your download/upload size saving you GB, fit neatly into most spaces without blowing out and causing grief to email recipients and it is the standard size of a normal printed photograph. Essentially your are reducing the data slab from several MB’s to a few KB’s and if you fix the settings on your phone or camera first it saves a lot of time and frustration later when the image files get rejected because they are too big.

I have a netbook, so if the pics are too big then I really have to scroll. =\

It seems like just changing the white to be wider would be easier but it actually would make us reset our whole website. I just asked the computer geek guru how difficult it would really be, even though I have a good idea, and he gave me the “are you crazy?” look.  (But he’s also my husband, so I get that look a lot.  LOL.
