It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Phoenix Rising, better known as Ash. She passed away unexpectedly on the first of October from possible GI stasis. My mother was looking after my pets while I was away and came over in the morning, the night before Ash was eating and hopping around like her usual self but that morning she was flopped in her crate… mum wrapped her in a blanket to warm her up and because it was a public holiday not many vets were opened, she called the Rabbit Vet two hours north and was rushing up there when Ash passed away in her lap, not even half way there…I only got home yesterday afternoon to the terrible news, but I got to give her one last cuddle before taking her to the vets, she now at the Pet Cemetery awaiting cremation.

Her kitty friend; Sir Puss has spent the last few day asleep on top of the freezer where she had been placed awaiting my return. I might’ve only had her since March but I miss my baby girl and nothing will ever replace her in my heart… I will give myself time to grieve before deciding if I’ll get another rabbit.

Thanks everyone, this might sound funny but I woke up on the Monday morning feeling just not right, I thought I had just worn myself out from a few big days on my holiday… but now I know what happened at home, I believe that Ash was telling me goodbye and that’s why I felt ‘off’.

But now after this has happened I feel like such a bad bunny mum (although I know there was nothing I could do even if I was here cause it happened overnight) and I’m wondering if I should get another bunny when the time is right

You’re right. It’s nothing to do with your care. Stasis is called “the silent killer” and can sneak up. There may have been other factors involved that you can never be sure of.
Give your self time to grieve Ash and please don’t be hard on yourself.
