Currently, my 3 rabbits live in a c&c cage (3×3 grids) However, it is very difficult for me to get them out on their own..So, I thought it would be a great idea to have an x pen because it’s easier to open one place and let them come out. But what size is best for three rabbits? I have limited space since they live in our den room with other furniture.

My main problem is getting them out the cage. If I let them come out on their own (imagine daily for every day exercise), i have to wait an hour or more. Two out of three of my rabbits prefer staying in their house.

If it’s an emergency or something I need to have done (vet apt, or sometimes nail clippings) i have to pick them out of the cage but the design of it is very difficult just to reach in and pick them up (plus this scares them and I really, really, wouldn’t like them to fear me because of that).

Does anyone have suggestions for me?

This is what the current cage looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHmP…ature=plcp

        Thanks Everyone!

I love my xpens with 3 you’d be better off with 2, making a 4×8 ft space

Can I use the grids for anything? I have a lot.

I agree with Sam and Lady’s Human – two ex pens sounds good.

I don’t use grids anymore, but I’ve kept mine around because they’re surprisingly handy sometimes. They’re great for bunny-proofing a room…blocking off restricted areas (like under a couch) or putting away wires.

Oh those 3 look so sweet. One has a very cute Marilyn Monroe marking.
The condo looks good and they appear to enjoy it. I can understand why it’s not so “human friendly” though. If you do choose to go for xpens, you can use the grids to make one.

Have you tried putting down some mats on the tile outside of the condo? I’m wondering if its the tile that has them wary of venturing out?

oh wow! I love the design of your cage. I like the different compartments and the second floor. I agree with jersey girl, why don’t you use the cubes to make a pen instead of a cage? I saw on your video that you have 3 boxes and only used 2, so it seems like you have more cubes to play around with.

I had to look up what an X pen was (despite me having one in the living room for Finn -_- ) and I saw this cool lay out. Maybe you could do something like it? http://www.sandiegorabbits.org/adoption/graphics/square_pen_alison.jpg

the one thing I like about my x pen is that it has a door which would come in handy if I was using it as an actual cage and not a cage extension. For now I just hop over the fence. sometimes I miss and i’ve cut my foot up pretty badly and bruised my knee, so maybe I should start using the door….

What a cute little cage — and ADORABLE little bunbuns! Also, I agree with Jerseygirl, my buns HATE tile and REFUSE to walk on it… maybe that’s all you need is a few mats to get them out!

Sometimes it’s the simplest solutions (and most obvious) that work the best!

Thanks! The all white one (Joey) is a year and 4 months, the one with brown markings (Sally) is a year and three months old. The one with black markings is Daisy and she’s 10 months

Seems like a dumb question, but they all are altered right??

Yes, they’re all altered The youngest one was just altered about 2 months ago.

Phew! Good to know! And how sweet that they are all bonded! All these trios popping up make me want to adopt a 3rd

S+L, aren’t two enough?! Haha! I feel sorry for Tanlover with not one, but three tans! Haha! I’m just going for a mini lop, probably a companion later on, but fingers crossed by then, the rescue will have some nearby I can go and pick from!

Hahhahaah, Bunnygirl! Three buns is a lot to handle. My Tans are NUTS. And our breeder says even her adult Tans are way hyper like this… They’re soooo adorable but I honestly don’t think they’ll ever get to be free-roaming buns… they are WAY hyper and barely ever sleep and just way too active. I can leave a room for a minute and it’s tore apart in 30 seconds… Hahahaha. I love their nutty little bun faces though!

And as much as a trio is AMAZING to have — everyone needs to remember they may not all bond (which defeats the purpose of a trio anyways) and bonding three buns is HARD work. I’m pretty sure I got the lucky end of the deal since all 3 came from the same litter and all 3 were baby babies so they were still very curious and accepting of almost every bun they met. Hahaha.

Actually, I rescued Joey and Sally from this person who didn’t want to care for them and just planned to set them in a forest (They really didn’t care obviously). They were only 6 weeks old at the time. When they got older, I altered Joey first. The vet told me a month would be okay for me to put them back together. I waited a month and a few weeks, but it wasn’t safe because he got her pregnant. They ended up having three healthy kits. Two bucks (whom my sister adopted from me) and a doe, in which I still have. Which is Daisy, she’s their daughter.

My profile picture is one of the two sons. I visit them every 4 days a week.

Junior, Mickey, Daisy (far right) is the daughter, she’s also the one in the youtube video.

Ah! I was wondering who the grey bunneh was. Good for you in managing this and finding good homes.  So good you get to see them still!  Its hard to separate from babies. Heck, any bun actually!

The vet told me a month would be okay for me to put them back together. I waited a month and a few weeks, but it wasn’t safe because he got her pregnant. They ended up having three healthy kits.

I just dont understand why it’s not more well known. Most the time the vet or clinic dont even tell people this. Earlier this year, a friend and I helped a man that was overwhelmed with rabbits. He had the bucks desexed but they went back in the group too soon. This was responsible for 5 more litters!

They are so cute. I’m glad you were able to get a good home for them! And I’m very glad that the litter wasn’t 8+ babies! EEEK!

I would also recommend a 4×8 foot xpen set-up. This is what I have for my pair and it provides a ton of space for all their things, litterboxes, etc…

I tried making a NIC grid pen before and it just was not going to work out. It wasn’t sturdy enough. Xpens are made to contain large dogs, so they are built very strong and are not flimsy at all. I feel secure with my rabbits in their pen.

THOSE BABY BUNBUNS…. OMGGGGG. That is for sure, cuteness overload. Like I’m literally squealing….

I can’t believe they were just going to let them out in the forest! When will people realize that domestic buns aren’t WILD BUNNIES! URGHH…. You are SUCH a great person for taking these guys in and then finding them such great homes!

Jerseygirl, I also don’t understand how people don’t realize this anymore…. the breeder I got my first boy and girl bun from told us we could keep them together for at least another month before HAVING to separate them…. (they were 3 months at the time) … Thankfully, everyone on BB chewed my bum a good one about keeping babies together! Hahahahah. I would have been in horror if my babies would’ve produced babies…

Haha! The white one totally ignored the ramp and jumped straight up.

Good to hear they’re enjoying the new set up so much!

It’s funny, they have no problem on the tile within the pen but don’t venture out the doorway. Maybe it’s more the wide open space that’s more daunting?

They seem happy in their place anyway. : )

Looks good! You may have to go up another grid for the pen if they try to jump out. 28 inches isn’t very high.
