As some of you would know my ceiling was blown out explosively in a recent storm and two months on they are still putting my house back together. I now have a ceiling and today the painters have arrived.

I am concerned about the paint fumes, the ones from the flooring last week weren’t to bad and I managed to keep it from filling their room as the sealant was only used in small amounts, but the paint fumes are stronger and will take a lot longer to dissipate. Doing my best to keep this area ventilated but its freezing at the moment.

Has any one had their buns inside when there was painting going on and were they OK ? The painting is in the lounge two rooms away and the buns are in the sunroom but the breeze is drawing the smell right through the house.

I’m sorry your first post didn’t get answered Roberta and I hope the buns are okay. Sometimes people don’t answer simply because they don’t know the answer or those who know the answer aren’t on-line that day.

I was on yesterday but earlier in the day. I didn’t see this post.

We have painted in the house before, altho never in the bunny room (that’s the only room that hasn’t been painted). We get low or no-odor paint and keep the windows open. We have plenty of ventilation in our house.

I’m sorry you didn’t get a reply soon, but I would like to take this opportunity to mention this to all our members. If you have a question of this kind, and don’t get a reply right away, do not hesitate to call your vet and ask them your question. A knowledgeable vet may be able to advise you over the phone, or pass along a message, and they won’t charge you. It’s a simple question and you could get a call back even before someone with experience here catches up with your post.

And if your vet accepts email, that’s even better. Just send a message to your vet and here, and see what responses you get. I would always go with a vet’s advice first. (Not their receptionist, however.)

I say be super-careful. My Frosty almost died when there was a leak of gas from the oven pilot light. Her symptoms were hyperactivity, staggering and stumbling at first. By the time I got her outdoors to fresh air, her mucous membranes were WHITE, no pink at all. She also blew out a bunch of clear mucus/saliva through her nose and mouth. It was very frightening. Fortunately, she recovered from her ordeal, but if you notice any symptoms like what I’ve described, get the bunny to fresh air immediately! Prevention is the best, though, keep that ventilation going.

                    Hi All,

Painter has advised it is an extremely low fume paint. I have managed to keep it out of the bunny area using cross ventilation and leaving the bathroom fan on to try and divert as much as possible away from the area. Fumes seem to have dissipated more this morning after leaving the front door open to allow the cross draft again.
Keeping fingers crossed but all buns seemed to be fine this morning.
