Ok so the little one has a name and is a girl (thank the lord) she is now Min as named by my vet auntie Narelle.

So my question is, if I can’t rehome her should I try and bond her with Rufus who is already bonded to the cat and then I might have to re bunny proof the house, also Rufus is living on borrowed time, like 2 years of borrowed time so not sure how much longer he has.  He is now 7 with major dental issues and every op he comes out of just a little bit worse off but he has to have them.  Or do I bond her with Bugz and Anya?  Bugz is somewhere around 4 or 5 and Anya is about 2.

At the moment Min we believe is about 4 – 5 weeks old, so I have had to change up her diet a bit.  I have been looking at rehoming her but with every phone call that some gives me I think my chances are slim so thinking she may end up staying here (to everyone’s horror).  Rufus has been really good about letting her use his hutch (he normally sleeps on the top of it not in it) but today we had a poop war in front of it not sure why.

Any suggestions, ideas, comment or thoughts would be good.

This is tough, because 4-5 weeks is so very young. I think if she bothers Rufus, let him not be annoyed by a tiny bunny at this stage. If you keep her, I would try it with Anya (everyone else in your house is spayed, right? In case she’s a He.), being the youngest of your brood. But once older and hormonal, Min’s bond may break anyway.

I would recommend that you keep trying to rehome her, since you have quite a few weeks before it’s good for her anyway. She can learn to socialize a bit with the others, supervised, but keep her out of harm’s way. If you can’t find a new home by 9 weeks or so, see how the dynamic is with all of them and then decide.

Thanks Pam, at the moment out side of the poop war today Rufus is just sort of looking at his hutch and wondering why it is being used but has not stopped him sleeping on it or eating his food on it (yes all his feed bowls are on top of his hutch). I might start letting her have free time in the study that way I know it is bunny proofed and she can sniff out the other guys. I keep having calls but i tell them she is not ready to go for another 4 weeks and not till her first vaccination and then they have to sign an agreement that she will be desexed and a house bunny and then they just ring off. I had one guy even say why would he pay all that when he can go to the RSPCA and get one for $40 and keep it in the back yard. I will keep trying but I just think i need to have a back up plan. Also vet is 100% positive that she is a she

And yes no one is intact in my house, even my bird is on birth control!

I would bond her with Rufus, I imagine he could use a friend even if he’s old and has dental issues. It might do him good.

But what if that breaks the bond he was with Miss Kitty, I mean they are in love. One of the reasons his food is on top of his hutch is that is where her’s is and neither of them eat till they both have their breaky. They sleep together 99% of the time. I guess Miss Kitty is young and would get over it. Hmmm rabbit why!

But having a bond with a cat is not the same as having a bond with someone of your own species (if he would even want a rabbit friend).

Maybe he can be a pimp and have one girl for sleeping and one for playing?

Mr Buck LOL. I think I will play it by ear. Rufus seems unfussed by her other then she is in “his” space, a space he never uses but it is still his!

I wouldn’t bond Min to Rufus just because Rufus isn’t doing so well, so if they did bond, she would eventually have to deal with the loss of her husbun. I hear that grieving can be hard for a bun, and it might be better to not let her go through that.

HoneysBuns this is one of the big things, i think she might be better working towards making a trio with Bugz and Anya, but first stop is to see if i can find her another home.
