Anything good?  Any summer reading plans?

I’m still reading “The Murder Room” by PD James – I’ve not done well on my goal of reading a book a month.  I love Inspector Dalgliesh and his crew…

The next book I’ve pulled out to read is “The Cold Moon” by Jeffrey Deaver…another thriller!

I am almost done with the first book in a series called The Saga of the Seven Suns by Kevin J. Anderson. It is pure sci-fi. I am reading books that my boyfriend read and enjoyed because I am too cheap to buy books myself and being in between Monterey and Sac meant it would be difficult to borrow from the library.

I really want to read more comics though. I feel wholly unprepared for Comic-con.

I just got Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy by EL James and Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult.

I LOVE reading, but dont remember – I get distracted by my animals.

I loved The Hunger Games though!

Would love to hear what you think of the Fifty Shades of Grey – had some friends rave about this and am tempted to purchase. I love Jodi Picoult…is this a new book?

LoveChaCha, I just looked that book up and wow, it sounds amazing. Have you read his other book called “Honolulu”? That books sounds incredible too.

Sarita, I read the book “Honolulu” and loved it! I highly recommend it!

My boyfriend’s mom borrowed a copy of “Moloka’i’ from a friend, and when I saw it, it made me remember that I need to get the book

I haven’t started it yet, but my new book sitting with me at work is called “Stern Men” by Elizabeth Gilbert (author of “Eat,Pray,Love”). Its about a girl who goes on a lobster fishing boat with an all male crew, and is a “tough girl” but eventually falls for one of the crew members. Sounds odd but I wanted to give Elizabeth Gilbert’s fiction novels a try, and I found it at Half Price Books for $5 so I scooped it up I loved “Eat, Pray, Love” but that was all about her actual life.

Nothing fun because my graduate advisor hates me. Also nothing in English because, again, my graduate advisor hates me; it’s all in Latin or Greek.

I’ve heard a lot of people talk about Fifty Shades of Gray. I want to try and read that this summer (in between the not-so-fun school stuff)

Sarita and anyone else, if you guys have a nook – I’d be willing to share personal e-mail addresses through PM’s and share my books. Fifty Shades of Grey is definitely an adult only book! I know there are a ton of younger people here and I’m not trying to get anyones parents mad at me.

I believe Lone Wolf is her latest book, I’ve read a few others by her and just love how she writes. James Patterson has really good love story books, not many though. And Nicholas Sparks is AMAZING! I still have to finish The Lucky One, it’s in my trunk for when I go to the dog park, but still haven’t finished, maybe 20 pages in?

I LOVE reading books when the movie is already out. I have such an imagination when I read that I like to find how they translate them to actors.

@Sarita I won’t go into details about 50 Shades of Grey because like Mr. Buck said, it’s definitely an adult only book, but I loved it! I bought the first one just to see what all the hype was about and ended up finishing it in 24 hours and had to rush out and by the next two It’s an easy, no think read, but you get caught up in the romance/action. I’ve gotten 3 of my co-workers into them to!

I just finished reading “I Am Legend” (way different than the movie btw)… not sure what I am going to read next. Trying to work through all the classics on my tablet. Hmm. Maybe The Man In The Iron Mask.

I just started reading “The Lord of the Rings” for probably the 6th time. I haven’t read it in a few years and I think it’s great summer reading.

That will take me a while to finish (one of the reasons I started it) and I don’t really have anything lined up after it. I’m only 3 books away from finishing Dickens, so I might get those and work on them. I also have some books about dogs on my Amazon wishlist (to add to the collection I already have and get ready for puppy ownership).

Ime kala. *I think that’s the proper response. I actually read Ancient Greek, so my modern Greek is pretty sparse. *

I’ve heard a lot about Fifty Shades of Grey…both in the positive and negative sense. However, there is a HILARIOUS reading of excerpts from the book by Gilbert Gottfried, if anyone wants to look it up on youtube. I’m not going to link it because the content is not very G-rated, but it’s easy enough to find on youtube and definitely worth at least a few chuckles.

Aside from textbooks and notes recently I picked up a copy of The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-time…pretty good, quick read. Interesting perspective too – from the point of view of a (presumably) autistic teenager.

Ohh, are you a classics major?  I took a couple of years of Latin in college just for fun, and really enjoyed it!  Only got as far as reading Comentarii de Bello Gallico though, but it was pretty neat to be able to read Caesar.  I don’t remember too much Latin anymore though, but just enough to cringe every time a particular one of my current professors uses “for e.g.” to mean “for example”.  Auughh the redundancy!

I read 50 Shades of Grey and thought the books had a great story line and the “adult” portions of the book kind of got old after the first book and got boring and predictable — way too much stuff written down just for the “wow”-factor. They were quick, easy reads though and I enjoyed them.

Since grad school no longer owns my life, I am getting read to start The Art of Racing in the Rain and am really looking forward to it!

I’m not sure anyone else here is a mystery fanatic like me but I love Harlan Coben’s books and Janet Evanovich. I have “Sizzilin’ Sixteen” sitting on my nightstand. I haven’t had time to read. I even tried to take it on vacation but all the free time I had I napped. Climbing mountains is exhausting.

A few people seem to be reading the Sword of Truth series by Goodkind. Read them all as they came out (took years…YEARS). Well worth the read though. If you like them, then I highly recommend “A Song of Ice and Fire” series by George R. R. Martin. Many of you probably know it as HBO is putting the books on TV, under the name of the first book “Game of Thrones.” It’s my all time favorite series. Read it more times than I could possibly count. My copy of GoT is actually falling apart.

I’ve read Caesar! I’m actually a Comparative Religion grad student who specializes in Early Christian literature and it’s interaction with the larger Greco-Roman world, so I have to read both the classic literature (right now I’m going through Hesiod’s Theogony) as well as the Early Christian stuff

After watching a gut-wrenching Nature special on the white lions of Timbavati I’m reading Mystery of the White Lions:Children of the Sun God by Linda Tucker. Now I want to go to South Africa as well as India to see the great cats in the wild. (Broken Tail:A Tiger’s Last Journey still hits me hard too.)
Will have to wait for that kind of travel until I actually have money though. Might be a few years or ten. >_<

Shes one of my new fave authors. I want to read Games of Thrones soon. Recently fell in love with the show.

Going to opening night of a book fair tonight. Its my first time going to this annual event but Ive seen pictures and there are thousands upon thousands of used books. Apparently, people line up for hours before the doors open. Very exciting for a book nerd like me!

I’ve read the first four books of the Fire and Ice series. I liked the first couple, but I found the last two really tedious. I guess I’ll keep reading, but I’m not as excited for new books as I hoped to be. My major problem with the books is that nothing seems to happen! Sure, people die, but the kids in the first book are still basically kids in the last book and haven’t actually done anything other than run around and get into some adventures. I guess I expected more of an epic, but it seems like none of the characters have really gone anywhere or developed much. Also, lots of the adventures seem like they’re written just because the author wanted to write them – they don’t add to the story. They *seem* like they’ll really add to the story, some day, but in 2000 pages I didn’t feel like it was going anywhere.

I’m interested in Shades of Gray. Like Peppy, I’ve heard a lot of people like it, but then I read the Amazon reviews and they were really negative. Maybe if someone let’s me borrow it I’ll read it – I don’t think I’ll buy it at this point.

Some nice revelations. I think he’s saving the big punchy stuff (the kind of writing that comes across in book 1 and book 2 *book 2 is my absolute favorite*) for books 6 and 7.

DH is working on book 4 right now, so he’ll probably want to get the 5th soon. I think there’s a lot of promise if he can get back to what the first two books were like.

I think he finally turned on Pawn Stars instead of Porn Stars (which is what I thought it was)…

I did find the nudity distracting. In the book it wasn’t hard to read (except a few scenes that were fairly graphic) but in the show I had the same thought you did, “Why would these two nude women be standing around chatting??”

The first episode I saw was with my hubby and a couple of guy friends and there was this scene with 2 women and Im like, hmmmm, this is a bit uncomfortable.

I was on a total book high last night! Paperbacks were a $1 and hardcovers were $2. I got a bunch of paperbacks that sell for $30 at Chapters. I found so many great authors! I think Ricky was embarrassed by my book nerdiness. He got 1 book, I had a shopping bag full and both our arms filled with books. They had to give me a big box to take them all home. I was really hoping to find the first novel of Game of Thrones but I didnt see it. There were so many people at the sci-fi, fantasy section, I could barely squeeze in. Would love to go back this weekend, but I probably wont get a chance.
