My bunny has liked to try and rip up my carpeting and it’s never in one spot, just randomly where ever he’s sitting. When he’s out I’ve had to keep a constant eye on him which was limiting the time he could be out. I started with getting new toys and trying to find a replacement behavior. I found he liked to move towels and papers around but he would eat cardboard. Then, the other day I left a paper towel on the floor and he started ripping it up!! He loves to rip up the paper towels but doesn’t eat them. It’s a bigger mess for me but at least it’s not the carpet. Now he can be out a lot more and we are both very happy! I was so excited when I finally found what he wanted. So anyone out there that is having a similar problem, keep at it!

Eating a little cardboard is OK, as long as they don’t eat enough to start filling up on and not eat their hay – as long as they eat lots of hay with it, they shouldn’t get a blockage. My buns both like to eat cardboard, but they don’t eat too much, so I still give it. Phone books are good too, my buns both like to rip those up.

Mine use to rip and dig my carpet up too, but now his front teeth are maloccluded so he doesn’t care about chewing/ripping things anymore. I guess its a blessing and curse. But before spraying the areas he tried to rip up with vinegar stopped him for a little bit, so did turning him around and pushing his butt to make him leave lol.

Thanks for the phone book thought. I finally got a hold of one and destructo bun ensued! JB had tons of fun ripping at the pages but he liked it better when I helped him. When I held a page he could rip at it easier and paw at it as well. This is our new go to activity when he wants to play!

                Love the pix!

You can also save the ripped paper and remnants from a shredder and make a “diggy box” where you pile it in and the bunny plays inside. I think BB has a great movie of that in the Video section on the site.

I saw the diggy box video it looks so fun! That was one of the first things I tried with JB but he didn’t use it, I was soooo sad. I’ve got a bunch of papers to shred this weekend so I’m going to experiment with a few different box ideas and see if any of them work better. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
