Hey guys… my local animal shelter is having a pillow bed sale and I’m thinking of gettting my bunny one. Do you guys have any experience with giving a bunny one of these? Are they safe? Do you think she’ll try and shred it to pieces? Do bunnies even like squishy beds?

I attached a picture of it down below… what do you guys think?

Well I tried to attach a picture anyways… it’s a standard pillow pet bed with a smooth underside and a fluffy other side. It looks super duper comfy!

I don’t think they like squishy beds. They will usually lie on a cooler surface rather than a warmer surface which is what a pillow would be.

I actually have a small dog bed and Buck loved it… for a potty! Squished his butt up in the corner and peed! Then did a few poo’s. I would not recommend one only because you don’t want to be washing it everyday and it would get stinky and leak. And they’re a pain in the washer/dryer…

Oh – but always support local shelters! My favorite!

Most of my buns use pet beds/pillow beds as potty, too! Teehee! They prefer to lay on the ground, cardboard, or a seagrass mat.

So basically, I’ll just need to get one and see if she likes it? lol Sounds like it varies a lot. I’m hoping she won’t use it as a litter box since it’s a flat pillow and it doesn’t have sides that she can confuse with a box. Hmmmm…

Chacha bun just stares at the bed like it is useless. She prefers being under her willow tent, mini maze haven, cardboard box, or out in the open on top of her couch.

I’m thinking about getting her one because I might be moving into my brother’s room when he moves out because it’s slightly bigger. He has a hard floor whereas I have carpet so I want to give Abby a soft place to lay if I move in there. When I was in a smaller space she had a bath rug in her cage that she liked a lot. I hope she likes it… if not, I’m sure my parent’s cats will appreciate it lol.

My buns are the type that have no use for a bed either…like you said, I think it’s a hit or miss thing with bunnies and pet beds, and you probably won’t know until you try it out. Does she have any blankets or towels in her area that she likes to lay on/pee on? I’m guessing that might give some indication as to how she’d respond to a bed.

I’ve tried to get beds for mine and they never sleep in them and occasionally pee on them. lol They do prefer to lay on carpet over hardwood or cardboard, but that’s as cushy as they get. They do love floors with traction though, so getting things to put down on the wood floor is a good idea.

Yeah, I was definitely at least gonna put down a rug or something… I just laid down a towel to see if she’ll pee on it or sleep on it or try and destroy it. We’ll see what she does! lol She doesn’t really have anything down because she has 24/7 access to my carpet (she gets more of my room than I do).

I would find out first if she pees on soft surfaces. Try folding up a blanket or towel. My buns have pet beds and they don’t pee on them. Max, my lop, particularly loves to lie on his bed. He will flop completely out. The bed I have is very flat tho (I guess you’d call it a cat bed). I’m not sure what the “pillow bed” is, but if it’s like a big stuffed pillow for dogs, I’m not sure how secure a bunny would feel on that.

Healy used to love his cat bed. He cuddled up in there all the time. See my avatar pic
When he got a girlfriend she started to chew on it and pee in it so I tossed it. Now that he is a bachelor again, he has a new bed, but it looks like he picked up his late girlfrend’s bad habits with it cause he poos in there nonstop. I just dump it out every day. He still likes to sleep in it. Maybe you could find a really cheap one (~4 on sale sometimes at petsmart) as a test before getting a nicer bed. On the other hand, your rabbit probably won’t care how much you spend lol.

Depends on the bun. Powder likes hard, cool surfaces and won’t lay on anything soft. Stickers uses her pet bed more as a pillow than anything lol but she loves her blankies and sleeps on them, makes a den out of my clothes, etc to make her own beds.

I tried a bed like that for small dogs/cats but all hoppy did was pee and poop in it. It had to be washed daily and got to be a pain in the butt.
