Apparently, an asteroid is more likely to hit me than anyone else on the planet because my luck just SUCKS.

you guys…. have no idea what I have been through this week, agh

There were drywall contractors at my home on Thursday and so I took my buns downstairs away from the noise, and covered their home with blankies. Unfortunately, a wall extending downstairs needed worked on and the contractors failed to notify me that they were going to get started on it, and it was very noisy to my buns, Boon and Phenom.

The next day Boon felt bloated, and he was passing clear jelly globs – NO poops at all. I immediately called my rabbit savvy vet and she had him come in right away. Immediately he was dx’d with GI Stasis and bacterial Mucoid Enteritis as a resu;t of the GI Stasis. Some sources on the ‘net will tell you to get Dri-Tail for Mucoid Colitis but chances are that only occurs in a rabbit with GI Stasis and should be seen by a vet IMMEDIATELY. Don’t bother with the Dri-Tail – get to a vet, get real medication for the bun.

Anywho, for those readers who do not know, the reason that the clear jelly poops occur is because the GI Stasis stops motility of the gut, no poops get through but bacteria-packed mucuous builds up in the stomach and it’s the only thing that will get through the digestive tract until you can get it moving again and an antibiotic for the bacteria build-up. That is exactly what happened to my baby Boon! So $150 worth of tests and meds later, he is now on Cisapride, Enrofloxin, BeneBac, and strict hay diet. (well, I just started giving him fresh greens again yesterday, plus a bit of pine apple). The first two days he was ill, I was feeding him Critical Care.

Then Phenom wasn’t eating or drinking and her poops became infrequent and kept decreasing in size. Sign of dehydration – called my rabbit savvy vet and she brought her right in. She was very dehydrated, needed subcutaneous fluids, and got a shot of Reglan because Phenom will NOT take medications or be administered *anything* via syringe. I hope this behavior changes when she gets her spay, which has been pushed back since this catastrophe. Bill up to over $200 now, and I’m out of funds, so I’m praying no more surprises happen.

She’s doing better now but still not pooping or peeing as much as I think she should be. The vet did an ultrasound to make sure there was no blockage; vet feels she will be okay. I’m still nervous though. When I added papaya and pineapple it seems to be doing the trick.

Boon is recovering very well and responding greatly to his meds.

So my advice to everyone…… keep the bunnies as far away from loud noises or excessive stimuli at all costs!

Is there any chance at all you can get voluntary compensation from the contractor, as they were the cause of your bunnies’ distress? If not, I’m pretty sure you could bring a case against them in small claims court for compensatory damages.

This would be really cool if you could do this but I’m afraid it may be difficult to prove that the contractors did cause it unfortunatly. But I would be really impressed if you talked to them and they were willing to compensate you….that would be very honorable!

I hope they continue to feel better!

Thats a shame.   I wish they had told you.    Even a little $ to help compensate you is better than 0.

Hopefully the spay will be soon and you can save up again
