It looks like Olive might have groomed Simon a little too heavily, as he’s got a little superficial mark on his left ear that seems to have bled just a little bit (he’s not soaking in blood, or anything, but you can tell the area has very scant serosanguinous drainage).  I’m convinced this wasn’t vicious in any way, as Olive is snuggled up next to him and I didn’t hear any scuffling (in fact, I’ve been in the same room with them all day long and I’d have known if they fought)–I think she just must have been overzealous in her grooming and nipped him.  Or else he scratched it somehow (but on what?  He’s a New Zealand White rabbit and has long, wonderful ears, but I don’t think this looks like a scratch).  It’s hard to tell, but I will keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t become infected.  Expect it’s all I can do, at this point, as he’s not bleeding copiously, there’s no obvious tears or anything like that–just a superficial tiny scratch-looking mark.

Im sure Olive nipped Simon on accident. Its okay because bunnies groom themselves and they just lick it off! My bunnies are New Zealands too and they groom each other SOOO MUCH!

Hi, bunnehs!  Thank you.  I can’t even see the scratch or nip mark or whatever it was, any more, so I think it’ll be ok.  Aren’t New Zealands the best?

It could be overgrooming or a nip or perhaps he caught his ear on something else. I would just take a look in their area and make sure there is nothing sharp, then keep an eye on the ear for infection and for any more spots. Sarita has some really great information/experience on overgrooming, so should it turn out to be this, she will be a great resource!
