        What’s going on, guys?

A lot of traffic on BB lately. I’m finding it super hard to keep up! Great to have so many new and regular members.

I’m finding it hard to keep up too! I try to steal a bit of time while I’m at work, but I’ve been so busy lately that it’s hard to get more than a half hour. One of my co-workers quit and I’m taking on most of his stuff. I already had a lot of things going on and now I have quite a bit more, so it’s stressful. It’s not even the extra work that’s bad, but the fact that his processes are a complete mess – every time I look I find stuff that is inconsistent or doesn’t make sense and then I have to figure out what to do about it. It’s going to be a lot of work to get everything running smoothly and then I still have big projects on my other stuff. Oh well. We’re getting a new guy in March, so I should be able to unload some of this stuff then.

With so much going on at work, I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas! I have a lot of vacation time left so I’m taking off at least whole weeks for each. I’m going to my parents’ house for Thanksgiving, then Christmas is at my house with my parents, DH’s mom, and DH’s sister.

Oh, my other big news is that we’re on our way to getting a puppy! I finally found a breeder I really love for Welsh Springer Spaniels. Yay! The puppies should be born around April, so we have a lot of time to wait, but I’m glad things are moving.

Okay, so I was stupid and put my email address in on one of those family history websites. It said you needed to register for a free account. I put my name and email address in and clicked next and then it wanted your credit card info. Grrrr… now I keep getting emails from them telling me to finish “registering” so I can see my “results”.

If you scroll to the bottom of the emails you should be able to “unsubscribe” from the notices.

Yeah, I found it. Still annoying though. I don’t understand why those places charge so much money anyway. Oh well, they wouldn’t have the information I’m looking for anyway. I looked up public records in my county on the county’s website but that didn’t have what I wanted either. Must be a different county.

When I signed up for Ancestry I did have to give my credit card information, but I was able to cancel my membership before they started charging me for it and I haven’t had any issues. It is annoying to give out your card information though – it always makes me a bit uncomfortable if I’m not actually intending to buy something. I would rather they give the free trial and then cut you off unless you pay after a few weeks, but I understand that more people are likely to pay if their information is already entered.

So many good games coming out this month. I joked on twitter that “I’m going to be in my room playing games, and getting pale!!!”

I play Call of Duty online with my boyfriend, one of my coworkers, and angie-la. I’m super excited for Modern Warfare 3. I would pick it up at Midnight (my job is having a launch party) but I’ll just get it the next day, since I don’t work until 3 that day

Playing online with a bunch of guys is funny. If I am playing online with my coworker, I use my bluetooth (as well as him) and it is funny because guys online will say “IS THAT A GIRL ON OUR TEAM??” and they look at the leaderboard and say “SHE’S DOING DAMN GOOD TOO!” hahhaa its hilarous. I’m glad some people are for girls kicking butt ;D My coworker says “You’re so nice at work, but online you’re so angry!!!” What can I say, people online do stupid things?

Some of my friends have boyfriends or fiances that game a lot and they get mad at them.. well, I guess I understand how it is to love a game so much

@LoveChaCha I also enjoy playing video games (but I’m really terrible at them unless they involve Mario… and even then the little plumber bites the dust often). My fiance isn’t a huge gamer but he does enjoy playing COD and NHL and I find that rather than get angry at him it’s a lot more fun (and easier on our relationship) if I just join in every once in awhile. I’m also an avid reader, I can sit down with a book and ignore the world for 6 hours straight without batting an eye so I always try to remember that while he may like video games I also have things that take can take up a ton of my time if I let them. Currently he is playing a game called Deus Ex (sp?), I think it’s hilarious because your character can negotiate his way into buildings or getting help or he can be forceful, my fiance is always wanting to negotiate and talk to the people 10 different times to get his way whereas I’m like “Just break down the door, shoot the guard and go in!!”… not very lady like.

Britt, what platform do you guys play on? DH is huge into Call of Duty and Halo (and recently Battlefield 3) on the Xbox. He’d love to play with you guys if you play on Xbox.

I like some games, but I’m picky. I’m super excited that Zelda is coming out (we never use our Wii anymore, so it’ll be nice to feel like we’re getting to use it). I like other open ended sandbox type games like the GTA series and Red Dead Redemption (best game ever, in my opinion). I do sometimes play Halo with DH – we’ve done all of the campaigns in co-op mode and now we play Firefight mode together. I suck though, so I would never want to play online. I’m at about the same skill level as a grunt – maybe a jackal on a good day 😛

Princess*Smudge, your post was hilarious. I do the same thing as you when DH is playing – I go off into the library and read a book, or sometimes watch cheesy reality shows on my laptop that DH hates. We usually spend every weekend morning this way. I’m also terrible, but I do enjoy playing once in a while and there are some games I really enjoy (though I’m still so bad that DH has do take over for the hard parts).

I also had to laugh at your description of Deus Ex – I’m always the negotiator and I think DH would be the “shoot the door down!” type.

I get my husband COD every year, I don’t mind him playing and usually play with him. I can understand the whiney girlfriends though, because its easy to get absorbed into that game and as adults we have other responsibilities I do the same with my books too, but they are easier to put down than a game that charts your wins and losses and stuff.

We’re big gamers over here. We play COD on xbox. Lately I’ve been playing Gears of War every night before bed with my husband. We also play StarCraft2 as our PC game. We have Guitar Hero for xbox and a lot of stuff on the wii for our girls.

I’m getting ready for my husband to go to Canada. I don’t know what I’m going to do without him. I’ve never been away from him over night since we got married 8 & 1/2 years ago! He’s leaving next Thursday for 4 days to visit his Great Grandma. She’s very sick and fading fast. He wants to see her one last time since they don’t think she’ll make it till Christmas.

Glad to know I’m not the only girl gamer on here. Really big into WOW, although I still consider myself a noob because I’ve only played it for a little over a year and almost everyone on there has played like at least 5 years lol. All my friends make fun of me for it (in good spirits of course)

My husband plays a lot of video games, but not online ones. He was playing the God of War games, the Bioshock games, Portal 2, etc. He has gotten through all of them now and I haven’t bought him anymore recently so he hasn’t been playing anything. He said something about the new Batman game since it got a good review, so I guess we’ll see. I used to be pretty good at video games, but we’re talking the days of Nintendo and Sega Genesis. It was the only way to get my brother to do anything with me. Otherwise, I have a DS right now that I play every once in awhile. I have stuff like Big Brain Academy and Cooking Mama for it. =X

I’ve never played WOW but always wanted to! I love those kinds of games. I love all the Lego games, they crack me up.

The newer games are fun, but it’s pretty hard to beat Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.

Cold weather is finally hitting us here (cold meaning <50 by Texas terms)…I was in the library studying for a few hours on Wednesday evening and the temperature was about 20 degrees colder when I left than when I went in. I hadn't realized there was a cold front coming in at all, and had to run home freezing!

                                                Bumping this up!!

Customers are in the store.. coughing, sneezing, wiping their noses. And now I have it. Great. I’ve seen 2 people – one coughed without covering, and one sneezed on the PIN PAD… Ew, seriously?

I’m off today, and I’m thinking about taking the day off from work tomorrow. i only have a 5 hour shift, but I’m still feeling crappy, and I can’t hear very well.

To answer everyones question – I game online with my PS3.

Call of Duty is rather addicting, haha. Time goes by so fast when I play that game, but its super fun when there are people you know that play along I’m going to miss my Kiparis and AUG with flamethrower on Black Ops *sniff*

Cooking Mama 4 is going to be on 3DS.. don’t even get me started on 3D things..

kinda lost interest in gaming after the ps1 era with the exception of a few ps2/wii titles: silent hill, katamari, rabbids

Obviously I’m not big into gaming, but sometimes I do wish I had a good kick butt/kill everyone game to play. Especially these past couple of days as I got reamed out by a coworker. But I don’t have anything buy my computer. Now to make me sound completely psycho, my cousin and his wife are coming to my aunt’s to do some shooting so that’s what I’m doing tomorrow – REAL target practice. LOL

Lately I have been all the seasons of Waking the Dead which is a British crime drama tv show. So I just looked at the clock and it’s 3am. Oopps. Oh well. haha

Nothing else major going on. I am now letting Lolli out of her pen in her room. I close the door and watch Waking the Dead on my computer while she hops around and randomly comes up to nose bump me. Really she’s just looking for food. LOL

The costume rush is over at Jo Ann, now we are entering Christmas and fleece season. Today alone I think our store sold a record amount of fleece. Mostly for the “no-sew” or “rag edge” or “tie off” blankets. Whatever you want to cut them. Now at a busy store like ours, we literally cut 100’s of pieces of fabric a day, our scissors have not been replaced in probably 7 years, and the little metal ruts in the table that we run the scissors down to get a straight cut have dings in them that our scissors snag on and it shows in the cut. Yes we do have a professional sharpener who comes in a couple times a month to sharpen the scissors, yes we do have someone who comes in a couple times a month to smooth the ruts. But guess what, after one day that has all gone to heck. We have scissor sharpeners for our use behind the counter, but they don’t help. So it is 100% impossible to get a customer a perfectly straight like like you would get with a straight edge and rotary blade. It is just not going to happen ever. That is what allowances are for. Also, if you are doing a no sew blanket guess what? Your fabric can be mis-matched by like 2″ each direction and it WILL NOT MATTER! Also, fabric comes to us from time to time with a smudge on it. Guess what? THAT IS WHY YOU WASH IT BEFORE YOU USE IT! That or you know, put the imperfect side on the inside of the blanket where it will never be seen. I am not saying you should settle for ridiculously uneven fabric, or something with a huge stain on it, but some of our customers are so picky it is going to make this happen to me I swear. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxCPCteWZqw

In other news, I have finally gotten around to playing Heavy Rain. My husband has made me an achievement/trophy slave and I am trying to unlock all of them. I also need to finish getting all of my achievements in Fallout.

By the way that is not a rant, I am just making a statement to potential Jo Ann customers.

tomorrow we’re donating 30 sets of ‘bun-chuks” (my own creation) to the buns at http://www.tranquilitytrail.org

they’re made out of 4 fisher price links and the thick cardboard tube from a 12″ wide roll of bubblewrap cut in half.
good for a few months of gnawing and tossing before they need to be replaced.

I think my horse may kill me for not putting a blankey on her, and my bun may kill me for not letting her out early enough… its dang cold and I dont want to get out of my covers just yet! Well, cold in SAZ standards, which is nice in most states hehe. I got my cute rain boots out, my awesomely awesome snow hat for the snow we dont have, but hey my noggin could get cold, and wearing leggings under my jeans! woohoo!!!

I know that what we are going through is nothing compared to what people in Cali experience but I really hate these things. Its a little fun to see Huckleberry thump at them though.

I went ahead and got a 3DS because I wanted Pokemon Rumble Blast. It’s way simple, but a good distraction since there’s rumored to be no more Pokemon games after Black/White.

Mike, those tubes are wonderful! I may have to try and make a few for my ninja nibblers!

Joyful, I am one of those folks who has made those tie blankets for more than a few holiday seasons, and while I don’t go crazy over details on fleece, I am so glad I am not doing any this year. I can’t imagine having to cut that fabric all day. Making the cuts for just one toddler-sized blanket is murder on my hands and back.

Huckle, I’ve been hearing about these quakes and it’s unsettling even for a former Californian to hear of that much seismic activity anywhere but the west coast. Hopefully it’s just releasing tension so a big one doesn’t hit. I can bet the buns don’t like it, their wild relatives would be abandoning the warren weeks ahead of this many tremors. @_@

I was studying all curled up in my bed when I thought I felt it vibrating ever so slightly…thought I was going crazy but the water on my countertop was moving too, and a quick google afterwards confirmed that I wasn’t too insane…yet. It wasn’t too strong here but I live on a higher floor in my building, plus I was on my bed, both factors which may have amplified the movement.

Phew, just finished a marathon reading session! On Saturday night, I got my hands on a book I’ve been wanting to read, and tonight I read straight through almost 700 pages from 7pm to 4am. It’s been a while…now I need to tend to all this studying I’ve been neglecting, hehe.

Take a paper bag and fill it with hay and other bunny goodies (not too much sweets I used flower petals, apple twigs and dried papaya) and tie it with a piece of sisal or twist it. The bunnies loved these and they are cheap and fun to make.

I will have enough credits to graduate, but I won’t have my thesis done by May. There’s just no way (too much stuff to do in such a short amount of time). It’s possible that I could have it done by August. The problem is that after being confused for the first half of things, I have come to realize where I am supposed to be. It order to have this area of concentration appear behind my degree, I would need to stay until the end of next year. This is because a required class for this is only being offered next Fall. I told my husband about it and he’s angry with me. He’s not being supportive at all and thinks I should be done in August. It’s not like this is absolutely necessary, it is just something I would like to have appear behind my degree. Any ideas on what I should do?

If the extra class and time is just for the sake of having some more words appear on your diploma, then I don’t know that it’s worth it. If having that concentration will allow you to be considered for jobs in a field that really interests you, then I think it’s worth it. Does that make sense? Maybe if you share what degree you’re getting and what you hope to do with it we could help you out.

My interests really began to shift from what I thought I wanted to something else entirely. Well, not entirely, it’s still the same department. Anyway, I just wasn’t going to have anything appear after my degree because my coursework really flip flopped. But now I feel it should be there since natural resources can be anything under the sun.

I don’t know anything about the industry, but if you think it will effect getting a job doing what you really want, then I think you should go for it. If you think your ideal employer would hire you anyway based on what you state your interests are on your resume, then maybe not worth it.

I have so many regrets and they have been eating me up inside. This would help take away some of that “what if”.

If it’s really something you think you’d regret, then that’s another good reason to do it, but you have to weigh regretting the extra time and cost necessary. I would talk to people in the industry (or professors who have experience working outside of an academic setting) and see what they think. If the extra title is completely unnecessary, maybe you will feel the freedom to let it go. If they think it will help you, then that’s something you can share with your DH to ask for his support.

If you feel like getting something additional on your degree will help you, and you have the time and funding to get it, I doubt it could hurt. I wonder if it would be appropriate/possible to talk to some companies that you would consider working for and ask them what would be more attractive to them. Im not sure how you would do that, but it couldn’t hurt to ask.

I can relate. I recently found out that it would only take an additional semester and a half to gain a minors in art history in addition to my bach. of fine arts with a studio focus and alternative education certificate. I am not sure if I want to do that or if it would matter for any reason but I think it will depend mostly on funding.

                                                                                                        Good luck!!!!

I would have to ask if that would be a possibility. That is a good idea to ask potential employers, not sure who to ask though. Some people at school might know though.

I called in sick on Saturday (I was scheduled off Friday) and I was off Sunday and Monday. My ears didn’t unplug, so I went to the doctor this morning. I have an ear infection. I kind of guessed it was that – my ear feels different and usually unplugs after I get over the cold.. but nothing o_O Now I have an answer for my ear problems LOL!

I just found out that apparently starting next year, federal subsidized loans for graduate/professional school students have been cut. There goes loads more money.  Not to mention that congress is on the verge of decreasing funding for medical residency programs all in the name of the debt ceiling and deficit, which can only shrink the number of available residency spots at a time when we already have a frightening projected shortage of doctors in the future. Bleh.

I was talking to a friend at lunch, and he asked me if I had scouted out a certain apartment complex this summer (which I had). Apparently, he had visited the same complex soon after, and the management woman was chatty and had told him how some girl came in recently asking about pet bunnies! I guess I’ve talked about bunnies to enough people now that I’m starting to be the “bunny girl”…my friend made the connection and had been wondering ever since if I was the one the management woman was talking about, haha.

I read in the newspaper this past weekend that the number of doctors that take care of elderly (I can’t remember the name right now) have been decreasing.. and the number of elderly is going up

On a happier term (yes, we all need a smile .. it seems like we are all going through hard times right now), for those that have played Call of Duty, something ridiculous happened online tonight. I was playing with my coworker. On Modern Warfare, it doesn’t say the username of the person that is getting a care packge for some reason. My coworker called in 2 care packages and while I was running around, I got hit on the head with BOTH!! What a dofus I am! LOL! He even found the videos and posted it on my facebook >_< XD

I was taking a shower this morning and discovered that my husband had given me his stupid ring worm! I am so not happy. I honestly don’t know where he got it. He was crawling around in is icky bush at this parents house and I know some types can live in the soil. Anyway, it was on the outside of his upper arm and somehow it got on the outside of my upper thigh. I’m mad because this wouldn’t have happened if he would have been applying the ointment like he was supposed to (he kept forgetting). Grrrrr..

I picked a case of it up at the vets office last spring. It was taking FOREVER to go away, I was using a combo of tonaftate, miconazole, and spraying bedding and clothing with an anti-fugal powder spray since it can stay on clothing and spread. Then, one day, I went to the lake and got a horrible sunburn and when the sunburn went away, so had the ringworm. I spoke with a vet in cali who said that rabbits usually dont get it, but there is one strain that they get most often if they do get it and its not the one that usually people get from dirt/cats/dogs. So happy news there! He told me to let Huckles get some sunlight if I was concerned and it would kill it off.

That is awful about loans being cut to medical programs! What are those politicians thinking? “Hmm, lets cut funding to education, health care programs and nasa… Yeah, that will help our country grow and compete in today’s world!”

It’s on my leg and I am wearing long pants now since it’s cold. I think the chances of spreading it to them is small. I will just make sure to wash my hands and whatnot. The dog has shown no signs of it so far. My husband has had it for like a month. But I think it’s because he wasn’t putting his stuff on it like he was supposed too. I guess I should have held him down and put it on him myself. LOL Anyway, I didn’t think it would spread to me like that since I wasn’t touching it. Oh well.

No more .90 medications, or a low deductibe.. I have to sign up for my job’s insurance. It is only good at this one clinic, and it makes me angry. both of my parents have had horrible experiences. I’m going to ask around my job for a DECENT doctor at the clinic *SIGH* I just want someone who will take me seriously, and not think just because I am 24, and too young to get any sort of disease  Not that I am saying that I am, but just someone who takes my feelings into consideration

The clinic I go to is usually awful. There are a handful of excellent drs there but getting them is hard since its mostly a walk-in clinic.
I just had a pretty bad experience last week. The dr made me feel like an idiot for coming in after not being able to sit through class because I was too dizzy to operate the drills and saws. I could barely stand up and I was really hot, despite the very cold weather. I was sure it was something to do with my ears. My throat was also very itchy and I am terrified of getting strep! He acted as if I were only there to get the codeine he had been handing out like candy to all of my classmates. If he had taken two minutes to look at my history, he would have seen that I have reported being allergic to codeine and have refused it a couple of times at that clinic!!!!

My old doctor was sometimes difficult to deal with. She was my “girl stuff” doctor though. Most of my complaints were downplayed a lot. She even got angry with me one time and simply told me she couldn’t help me. I haven’t been back there for a few years because I can’t afford it, I simply see the doctor at school (which is free). There is one in particular that I like to see. She’s pretty nice and likes to humor me a little more. Although she has brushed me off before when I had complaints about “things she saw all the time” being that she sees a lot of college students. One thing was my weird muscle twitches that I would have. She insisted that it was nothing to worry about and said I was probably just dehydrated.

Its so NICE to be off today. With my ear infection, hearing all of the noises at work (beeping, people constantly talking, scanning items, etc) were getting to me. I will be calling my doctor’s office tomorrow and going to make another appointment.

My dad and I went out today. It is rare that we get a day off together, as we both work retail and that means crazy hours. He put in another application for Boeing. We went to the gym first, and went to stores to go shopping. We went to Cash and Carry – I found a huge plastic bag of cilantro. The cilantro looks very clean and said the exp date is 11/24. Most grocery store cilantro looks like it has dirt on it >.>

I’ll be buying Chacha’s birthday present this coming week. She’ll be getting some willow toys, a carrot bed (if she’ll lay in it.. that is) and a huge salad. I will be buying some party hats and a carrot cake from work. She won’t get the carrot cake, of course, lol.

I have fantasized about having more rabbits, but I would want them to all get along. LOL

Now I’m just thinking about what I still need to do before the end of the semester. Two papers and two presentations, plus I have to do interviews for the one paper, then I have grading to do, posters to make, I think I need to make some sort of list.
