I live in WI and I will be going down to Florida in Feb. for my wedding.  I am terrifed to leave my fur-kids alone with someone I don’t know for a week.  I don’t know my neighbors that well and everyone I do know is going down to FL with me.

My question is how do you find a legit pet sitter?  My situation is that I have a bearded dragon and Dexter my bunny as well as a kitty and I am hoping that the pet sitter knows how to care for all 3.  I think I am more stressed about this then the wedding itself   On top of that we are going down in Feb so I am hoping and praying that there isn’t a blizzard like last year

I live in Kenosha, WI if that helps, if you have any recommendations for people in my area or other ways to find someone please let me know!

        Thanks guys

        Chelle & Dexter

Heh I live in Wisconsin too (: Fortunately my neighbor actually has had rabbits for years and years. I would say the best option would be to first go with your neighbors, do any of them have pets/would be willing? They would be able to go over to take care of the pets twice a day. Even if they don’t have experience you could have them come over before you leave and explain everything, show them the pets, and give written directions.

I think my next door neighbor use to have a cat years ago but she is pet-less right now. I don’t really talk to my neighbors much but I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask her. The neighbors on the other side of me are iffy and don’t seem too friendly either lol. It would ease my mind if someone next door could do it instead just in case there is a blizzard or something of the sort.

You might want to check with any rabbit rescues in the area. There may be someone willing to help out.

I saw pet sitter ads on my local craigslist, you could always put an ad out and then interview accordingly

Ok I can try that too The House Rabbit Society in WI is about 2 hours away but I can see if they know of anyone around here.

What about paying a vet tech to stay at your house? That way they’d be there in case of a blizzard, and hopefully would also know something about proper animal care (though I have definitely met my share of ignorant techs!).

I had this problem went we went on vacation this summer. I couldn’t find anyone, so my mom had to do it. She was terrified to let the rabbits out of their cage and the poor things were in there the entire time. I felt awful, but there wasn’t anything I could do about it.
