Lost my best friend Floppy on 8-16-11. We had him for 7.5 years and he lived a wonderful life in our house. We had to go away for a few days and had to put him in his hutch outside. He seemed normal and the next day I noticed he had some poop on his bum and when I went to clean him, I found he had maggots under his fur. I immediately cleaned him and took him to the vet but there was too much damage done and we had to put him to sleep. What I saw on my poor friend will never go away. How could I let this happen to something I loved so much? The guilt I feel is unbearable.  He was the best pet and was so much fun and interacted with us all. Everywhere I go I still se signs of him. I am going to miss my little vacuum cleaner. I love you buddy!!

Thank you all for the kind words!! I am even thinking of getting another rabbit. If you would have asked me that a day ago, it would have been no. It was our 1st house rabbit and one thing I know now is that they are super smart and a joy to have around. I would have never thought that about a rabbit and thought I would never get attached to him as I didn’t think they interacted with people much. How wrong I was.

I’m so sorry to learn about Floppy.
That is a truly adorable face, and it will take some time to stop missing him. Understand that you did everything you could as soon as you noticed something was wrong. At that age, illness can strike a bunny very quickly.

Thank you everyone!! Every day is getting a little easier and now my thoughts have turned to all the funny things he did. He brought us so much joy and so many wonderful memories. I know he will never be replaced, but we are going to get another 1 in the near future. Thanks for letting me share this with you all and helping me begin the healing process as it has helped very much.

Lopdad, I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope in time you and your family focus less on the circumstances of his death and more on the 7 1/2 years you shared with him as a loved member of your family.
