Another one of my ideas for a fun Lounge topic. List 20 things about yourself. Anything. Doesn’t matter. Can be as personal or as random as you want, but preferably stuff that the regular BBer’s don’t know about you.If you can’t think of 20 you want to list you can add more later.  I will start with my first 10:

 

 

1. I used to dress up my cat when I was a kid. (poor Tiggy….)

 2. The only bones I’ve ever broken are my pinky toes. Like 6 times on the left foot. Darn horses.

3.  I know all the lyrics to every Guns N’ Roses song.

4. I think trains are scary.

5. I hate my name.

6. My childhood celebrity crush was Jim Morrison (I know…I cried when my Dad told me he was dead. I’m super weird. I’ve always had a thing for long hair)

7. I hate going to the mall.

8. I have a sister who’s 16 months older than me.

9. I read and type super fast.

10. I wear mismatched socks a lot.

Fun idea!

1. I have red hair – I used to hate it, but I love it now

2. I love trivia – Jeopardy, pub trivia, Trivial Pursuit, anything. My best categories are science and literature.

3. I love musicals. Sometimes I listen to my iPod at work and I’m usually listening to show tunes (not sure why I like listening to musicals at work more than my other music).

4. I played cello for 10+ years. Every couple years I pick it up again and play for a few months.

5. I rode horses for 10+ years, but I never had my own. I can’t wait to start lessons again in the next couple years.

6. I went to college in upstate NY and I love it there. I’m moving to NY state next month (though only 90min from NYC), but some day I’d love to move upstate.

7. I’m an engineering nerd (and proud of it :-P)

8. I love geckos – I’m drawn to anything with a gecko on it. I tried having lizards and they weren’t the pet for me, but I still love gecko things.

9. I’m an only child.

10. I love trashy reality tv like Jersey Shore and Teen Mom. I can’t pay attention for those hour long dramas, but I can watch reality shows all night (hides head in shame).

1. I like to keep my food seperated (eggs away from the pancake with sryup. I won’t eat it if the two touch!)

2. I wear mismatched socks a lot.. what? Nobody SEES my feet anyways (Good one LPT!)

3. I consider little Chacha my daughter.

5. On July 24th, I’ll be doing an Ovarian Cancer Walk for my mother, and for other brave women that I’ve met online.

6. I am insanely picky about what I read.

8. I can’t stand if people don’t say ‘please’ or ‘thank you.’ It makes me not want to help them..

9. I’m of Asian descent, and my parents are quite tall (5’9” to 6′, but I’m average)

10. In real life, I’ve met Monkeybun. I also have skyped with digmenowx, karfn, and skibunny.

11. Oregon is where I’d like to live.

12. I want to work in the medical field, but I do not intend to go into nursing.

13. I love Cupcake Wars and Bizarre Foods, along with Royal Pains, NCIS, and Necessary Roughness

15. Currently saving up for a new laptop (using my dad’s for the time being T___T)

16. I’m a cashier at a grocery store. I like it, most of the time (dislike schedule changes)

17. I use rabbit poops as a fertilizer

18. LOVE LOVE LOVE Asian candies! I recently ordered some green tea cookies (tiny cookies with a matcha filling), green tea marshmallows, and vanilla cookies from j-box and it is DELICIOUS!!!! I love the fact that I can eat Japanese snacks and not feel sick after.

19. I’ve given up fast food. I prefer my dad’s delish cheeseburgers. I don’t feel like crap afterward. Mmm, angus burgers

20. I really want to help out in a shelter and take beautiful pictures of the bunnies so that they can get adopted out. I also would not mind interviewing potential parents, as a slave, I would want the best for those bunnies!

1. I was born in Colorado, lived most of my life in Michigan, spent a couple years in Indiana, and now live in Illinois. 

2.  I haved moved 15 times in my life.

3. I started playing piano when I was 6 and still practice, but not as often as I should.

4.  I LOVE old movies, top favorites are Bringing Up Baby, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Inherit the Wind, and I’m No Angel.

5. I’m a big nerd, I love all kinds of Sci Fi and Fanstasy TV shows, movies, and books.  I have an “I Want to Believe” poster hanging above my desk and own every incarnation of Hitchhiker’s Guide the Galaxy produced (the books, the books on tapes, the movie, the mini-series, the radio program…)

6. My favorite holiday is Halloween

7.  My favorite color is red, the point that I can do an entire load of laundry that is nothing but red clothing

8. When I was a little kid I wanted to be a fly horse (because of Fantasia) when I grew up.

9. I’ve studied Turkish for 6 years and spent a semester studying in Ankara.

10. I love music a lot, my favorites tend to be blues and rock.  My all time favorite singer is Janis Joplin.

11. I crochet, mostly amigurumi dolls, but I’ve branched off in to purses lately

12. I own too many books. I have three book shelves full and dresser full of nothing but books.

13. I currently don’t own regular plates and am forced to eat off of china that was bought by great grandparents when visiting the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

14. I love muppets! My boyfriend bought one that I got to design for my birthday and she sits on top of one of my bookshelves

15. I never owned a couch until a week ago and have lived in two different apartments without a couch, love seat, or even a comfy chair

16. I’ve never been to Disney Land or World

17. My real name is Lauren, and my mom named me after Laura from General Hospital.  It got altered to Lauren because my dad didn’t like Laura all that well.  I pretend I was named after Lauren Bacall, however.

18. I have BA from the University of Michigan, an MA from Indiana University, and I am about to start on a JD from the University of Illinois.  But I will always be a wolverine!

19. I love musicals! My boyfriend and I get tickets to a couple every year. Last year we saw Fiddler on the Roof and Spamalot.  I’ve seen Spamalot twice, it’s musical AND Monty Python so it totally makes me happy.  One of my other new favorites is Avenue Q, it’s funny, a little dirty, and has muppets!

20.  My name here (Kate Monster) came about because I was sitting around unable to think of a name when Kate bunny started trying to eat my wall and I shouted “Kate, stop it you Monster!” and then I realized hey, Kate is bunny and a monster, and Kate Monster is a character from Avenue Q! It’s perfect!

Avenue Q is great! I went to see it with some girlfriends for my bachelorette party in 2009. I always wanted to see Spamalot too, but I missed it on Broadway. I’d love to see more shows, but they’re so expensive (plus going means a train ride and dinner in the city). I’m jealous that you get to go to a few every year!

A lot of the big shows stop for one or two nights at the university auditoriums on their way to and from the bigger cities and the tickets are usually a bit cheaper, plus student discounts! I paid more for Spamalot and Avenue Q because I was so excited and wanted to be as close as possible, but usually we go for a bit cheaper.

1. I Absolutely LOVE geography!! I think it is the most interesting subject of all time.

2. I just cut off about 14 inches of my hair and I LOVE IT

3. I believe animals are the only living beings capable of unconditional love.

4. I’m still disappointed that I didn’t get a letter from Hogwarts on my 11th birthday

5. Whenever I’m really angry I cry. Which means I can never have a good argument cuz I just turn into a ball of tears.

6. I’m extremely scared of elevators, more specifically getting stuck in one. The movie Devil was terrifying for me.

7. I HATE being late! So much so that I would rather be an hour early than 2 minutes late.

8. I believe in karma

9. I spent last summer living at a Turtle conservation camp/crocodile conservation camp.

10. I’ve swam in a crocodile lagoon. It was the most terrifying and liberating experience of my life.

11. I don’t think I ever want to have kids, but if I ever do I will adopt.

12. My screen name is Malp because my last name is Male and in elementary school they spelled my name Malp on the honour roll list. This somehow followed me through high school and onwards even though I only have one friend now from those days.

13. I pass out and have a seizure whenever I bleed/have blood taken.

14. I am constantly broke because I spend all my money on my animals and I don’t regret it one bit.

15. I’ve been a vegetarian for over 6 years and when I had more time I was a PETA street teamer.

16. When I started working at my vet clinic a light kind of went off in my head saying wow this is actually what you want to do with your life. This was after 1 year of geography studies at university, a year of working, and traveling trying to find myself.

17. I hate socks! I think they are uncomfortable and gross. I would much rather be barefoot all the time, but I settle for flip flops.

18. On my days off you can either find me volunteering at my local equine rescue or SPCA.

19. Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year! It’s July and I’m already planning it

20. My eventual life goal is to open up my own animal rescue.

11. I love sheep for some reason. Now that we’re buying a house with a lot of land, I’m trying to convince DH to let me get a couple eventually. A girl at work grew up on a farm and her dad would give me free lambs for bottle feeding! (the ones rejected by their mothers that someone has to bottle feed)

12. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but when I do find something I like I can eat the whole batch.

13. I’ll eat almost anything that’s not a dessert. I’m the one who orders “weird” things at every restaurant. Not sure if I want to eat bugs or anything, but I’ll try any kind of seafood or meat at least once.

14. My first job out of college was making cookies and crackers and my current job is making computer chips. I love that engineering applies to so many fields!

15. My husband and I were in the same major and year in college (of only 66 people), but we didn’t start dating until the end of senior year.

16. I love reading 19th century British literature – Dickens and Austen are my favorites.

17. I hate exercising. I wish I was one of those athletic people, but I’m just not and exercising is always so hard for me. I like hiking and riding horses and things, but getting me into the gym is like pulling teeth (I thought of this since DH is making me go there with him tonight)

My laptop battery is dying, so I’ll have to come up with the last three later 🙂

Well, let’s see…

1. I am a coffee addict. Without coffee, the world would end.

2. I volunteer at the Oregon Humane Society, where I get to se all sorts of adorable buns and kitties!

3. I also volunteer for a local Rabbit Rescue, helping out with hay, outreaches, adoptions, etc. Tons of fun!

4. Am Canadian, living in Oregon. Hubby imported me

5. Am addicted to sock bunnies. They are taking over.

6. Love pretty dresses. I’m not all that girly, couldn’t do my makeup or hair to save my life, but am drawn straight tot he prettiest dress int eh store every time. Much to hubby’s dismay. Dresses have taken over the loset.

7. Have a tattoo of a raven on my back. Got it in December. I love ravens, and my middle name is Corbin, which means Raven

8. Am a heavy metal/hard rock girl. Classical and musicals just don’t do it for me. I fall asleep, and then wake up grumbling for real music

9. Am a late night kind of person. I don’t like waking up before noon, rarely get to bed before 3 am. Mornings do not exist in my world, yay!

10. Doing this is harder than I thought, will have to continue after more coffee…..

How fun! Okay here is mine —

1. I was born and raised in MA and moved to TX when I was 18.

2. I met husband when I was 19 and we dated for 5 yrs before getting married.

3. I suffered infertility before getting pregnant with my daughter. I was only off the pill one month and got pregnant with my son. They are now 12 and 9.

4. I am stay at home mom and homeschool my kids. I do want to go back to school to become a nurse.

5. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. Most of my family still lives in MA except for one sister and my parents, who live here.

6. I hate a dirty messy house but I also hate cleaning.

7. I like doing laundry but I hate putting clothes away.

8. I don’t really like to shop, would rather order it on the internet. I loathe grocery shopping!

9. I am a germ-a-phobic but not to the point that I need to wear gloves when going out lol!

10. Growing up I hated my name (Erin). No one else had it and everyone always spelled it wrong.

11. I have been to the UK 3 times. I would love to go back.

12. I was 11 yrs old when I became an Aunt.

13. I love my oldest sister and would be lost without her. She bought a summer home in CT and not having her close by for 6 months out of the year sucks.

14. I am a night owl. Rarely do I go to bed before 3. Rarely do I ever see the sun before 10am. My kids are night owls too.

15. I love to sleep and get super cranky if I get woken up. Surprised I survived 2 babies!

16. I am addicted to my computer. I could care less about TV and only watch a few select programs (Bachelor and Bachelorette!) every now and again (well except for the Bachelor).

17. I have 5 dogs, 3 guinea pigs, 2 gerbils and my bun. Of course the pigs and gerbils are my daughters, but I do help with some of their care. I volunteered in dog rescue and found that is my passion. Love fur kids!

18. I love living in Texas, but the heat does get old. Then again, I hate cold weather so I would take heat over cold. I do not miss living in the Northeast.

19. My most favorite place to be is Destin, Florida. I love the beach and wish I could live there.

20. My second most favorite place to be is in the mountains. It is so peaceful. We usually vacation in CO every year.

 1. I was born and raised in NJ, I lived in California for about 6months when I did student exchange through my college.

2. I live about 1.5miles from the Jersey shore house and dread running into them on a daily basis, but absolutely love where I live.

3.  I work full time as a parmedic and really enjoy it even though there are days I leave work feeling like a black cloud.

4.  I got my bachelors in political science and originally had wanted to go to law school but decided against it my senior year…lol.

5.  I only have one brother who I am very close with but have around 17 first cousins and too many to count 2nd and thrid cousins.

6.  I am a die-hard red so fan and am constantly tortured for it because I live in NJ

7.  I love my bunnies even though before Cady I had never had one as a pet and when I got him my original intention was getting a fish.

10.  I love snowboarding, Im not great or anything but I try to go as often as possible.

19.  Im very close with my mother even though she habitually drives me insane I love her, my dad live up north but we still stay close and Im beyond happy he has found someone that has helped him  become a better person.

3. My parents were going to name me “Refina”. LOLOLOL. My doctor named me Regina instead. To this day, my mom insists that “Refina” was a name in a baby book name.

4. One leg is longer than the other.

5. I was an English major, but really wanted to major in Fashion Merchandising.

6. My dream job would be to design store windows and dress mannequins at a large department store.

7. I love baseball (only SF Giants).

20. When driving or walking past houses and apartments, I love looking into people’s windows if the drapes are open to see how the place is decorated. It’s not creepy. I like interior decorating.

1. I was born in California, but raised in Texas. I’ve been back in California for 9 years now and I can’t imagine being anywhere else. Plus I’m spoiled by San Diego “weather”.

2. Frankie-bun was an impulse pet, but it was the best impulse I’ve ever given into. He has kept me from losing it for the past 4.5 years. Sometimes I think I wouldn’t have gotten through certain things without him. He’s my fuzzy little savior.

3. I love things made with tomatoes, but hate raw tomatoes.

4. I have a whole separate room in my house filled with video game-related stuff and various collectibles =x

5. If I had a choice, it would be Halloween all year round.

6. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising that is currently not being utilized in the least.

7. People are always surprised by the fact that I don’t have any tattoos. Apparently I seem like the type.

8. I’ve never been overseas, but am going out of North America for the first time next June. Gonna be a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding. Eep.

9. I wash my hands too often.

10. Excessive gore and violence in movies makes me way too happy. In real life, I would probably barf.

12. I’m a bit of a grammar Nazi and love editing stuff.

14. I try to remain open-minded. I make inappropriate jokes sometimes, but I am a very accepting person.

18. I’ve known my best friend since I was two. We keep in touch even though we live in different states. I would drop everything for her. We’re anticipating really goofy “best friends” tattoos that are a reference to our favorite movie, Wayne’s World.

19. I have no problem admitting I’m kind of weird (most people are and won’t admit it), and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Normalcy is overrated

20. I am very open and honest. Ask me anything else you want to know!

1) I am not a morning person, I would much rather be up all night than have to wake up at 7am. Even if I go to sleep at 9, I still don’t want to get out of bed in the morning.

2) I love any animal – even the ones that creep me out. I refuse to kill a bug if I can handle it any other way.

3) I love violent / action movies, but in real life I am a pacifist.

4) I play a lot of video games. People find it weird that a girl is a gamer, but bleh!

5) I hate shopping.

6) I hate the color pink.

7) I lived in England for 6 months with a guy I met online when I was 15. He turned out to be my best friend, but not my match romantically.

8) I currently live with a guy I met online in a game and have been for five years.

9) I love the beach, even though I can’t swim and I burn in the sun.

10) I have curly hair. I hate it, other people love it. I think they are insane.

11) I am a horrible housekeeper because I hate to clean, but I will clean up after my animals without complaint.

12) I give my animals a better diet than I give myself.

13) I am a vegetarian and have been for 11 years, since I was 13 years old.

14) When I was a kid, I had an emu and a skunk as a pet.

15) I don’t like most vegetables, even though I am a vegetarian.

16) My brother calls me an elf because I love nature and animals and would rather be in the woods than among people.

17) I love B&W movies and photography.

18) I got to see WICKED with the original cast on opening week in NYC.

19) I am needlephobic. I tense up so bad when a nurse comes at me with a needle they often can’t even get into a vein.

20) I am a whimp when it comes to being burned – cuts, bruises etc I can deal with, but burns I have to keep ice on for hours because I just can’t stand that type of pain!

 1. I was born in Ky but moved every few years to various states. 

2. Before I was born my name was supposed to be Alisha Marellia but luckily my cousin was born first. I am so not an Alisha. 

3. My hair is almost knee length. It irritates me and I can’t wait to cut most of it off. 

4. In person I am impossibly shy. When people meet me they mostly think I am rude or something is wrong with me because I will not look at you and will only talk if asked a question. If I do make eye contact it is an immediate reaction to turn deep red and fidget. 

5. I have a completely off the wall sense of humor. You either love the strange things I say or just think I am insane. Either way works for me 

6. I have written over 30 novels. 

7. I have a huge family just on my mothers side I have 19 aunts and uncles and over 100 first cousins. 

8. I didn’t realize it would be this hard to think of 20 facts about myself!

9. My ‘hero’ is Mattie Stepanek

10. I love horror and gore movies even though I could not watch anything other than cartoons with no violence as a child without being terrified to the point of screaming in terror all day and night. I couldn’t even watch roadrunner!!

11. I am a very picky eater espeicially visually. If I don’t like the way something looks I cannot bring myself to eat it.

12. I have something called a Photic Sneeze Reflex. Which means anytime bright lights or sun hits me I sneeze.

13. I have a scar that stretches across my chest from falling onto a hot iron when I was 3.

14. My first memory is walking up a hill with my mom to a creepy house to buy my sister a rocking horse for her 1st birthday.

15. I have broken every bone in my body.

16. Clumsy does not begin to describe me I have been told I need to live in a bubble by more than one person.

17. I am afraid of balloons.

18. I wanted to be a Marine but my mom freaked out and I gave in.

19. I am stupidly honest. As in I will say something honestly if asked then become confused when the person gets offended. 

20. I have never cared what people think of me and that gets me into a bit of trouble sometimes lol.

11. My favorite Disney movie is “Beauty & The Beast” (I always cry when he turns into a human)

12. Radio jingles annoy me to the point I get angry.

13. I pretty much hate anything mainstream.

14. My first horse was a retired harness racer from Ohio. I bought her and her 2 month old baby (who I later sold to a friend).

15. I hate tomatoes.

16. Best trip of my life was 5 years ago when I went to Calgary to see the Spruce Meadows’ Masters (horse jumping). I met a lot of famous riders and horses. I love Calgary. Super horsey city!

17. I got suspended from High School twice.

18. I love true ghost stories but can’t watch haunting/ghost movies because then I freak out when I’m alone for like a week.

19. I feel bad about killing bugs (mosquitoes to a lesser extent!)

20. I’m really good at archery.

Ditto that too! I’m totally weird and I think it’s great! I hate how so many people want to be like everyone else. I strive to be different. It’s cool.  In high school I was known as the girl who dresses weird and does really funky hairdoes.

 It’s always so hard for me to just randomly come up with these things, I prefer questionnaires.  I’m going to read thru other’s responses and see if that helps something “click”!  

Okay… this might take awhile…

 

1) I currently live next-door to the first house I ever lived in.

2) I am afraid of moths.  I had a bad experience when I was 16 and had just started driving.  I left the car window open and a bunch of moths were lying on the dashboard.  I thought they were dead.  I pulled on the highway and they all “woke up” and started flying around my face.  I almost lost control of the car.  (And these were the BIG moths with 1-2 inch wing spans… dozens of them) 

3) Some long-time members know this: I broke my back when I was 14 in an ATV accident.  I had spinal fusion surgery.  I’m feeling better currently, but there are periods in my life when the chronic pain gets worse.  Pregnancy was hard because of this.

4) I just graduated in the spring with a degree in Dental Hygiene.  I have another board exam to take then I can start working.

5) I don’t have any tattoos but I’m not against them.  I’ve just never successfully figured out the what and where…

6) I am a fan of proper spelling and grammar.  When typing a quick reply, I try to prevent myself from editing it.  It’s an online forum, I know it doesn’t matter, but I like to be perfect.  I have posted status updates on Facebook and then discovered a typo a moment later.  I will delete and resubmit it.  It takes me twice as long to reply to posts on BB because I have to reread what I type.

7) I am a Deadhead, I’ve been one since I was about 13-14 years old.  I have about 1500 live concert recordings of the Dead and various bands.  I prefer music older than I am (I’m 28…)  People will talk about music from the 80s and I’ll say, “OH… that’s after MY time.”  I don’t think I’ve ever heard a complete Lady Gaga or Kesha song.  And I’m okay with that.  

8) I’ve never been into “gaming”, except for some of those ridiculous Facebook games, altho I am now completely “off” of FB games!  I do enjoy puzzle and strategy games…  I’ll play some on my phone.

9) I didn’t eat meat for a couple years after high school, but now I do.  Being married to a meat-eater and having a child, for us it just wasn’t realistic.  I prefer red meat rare.

10) I’m kind of into celebrity gossip.  It’s my guilty pleasure.  

11) I’m very good at identifying obscure actor/actresses and telling anyone interested a partial or complete filmography.  A walking IMDB…?

12) I LOVE raunchy television… Weeds, Californication, Shameless, and It’s Always Sunny in Phil are some of my favorites.

13) I have improved my reality tv viewing.  I used to watch those awful VH1 dating shows religiously (Flava Flav, New York, Bret Michaels, etc…)  Now I watch more “classy” reality tv (Flipping Out, Tabatha’s Salon Takeover, various cooking competitions).  I do still watch Celebrity Rehab and the 16 & Pregnant/Teen Mom series…

14) I’m pretty good with technology.  I have an Android phone and have mastered rooting/jailbreaking.  I can install files to change the look and feel of the operating system, and customize it to my heart’s content.  I also customize my husband’s phone because he doesn’t know how!

15) I like wine, but not wine sauces.  I like uncooked/raw tomatoes, but not tomato sauce.  I do not like green, red, orange, or yellow peppers.  Cooked veggies in sauce make me sick… I can’t eat stir fry or fajitas.

16) I have never seen a Harry Potter movie.  I only saw the first Twilight movie once and I have no desire to see anymore.  I hate “Urban Dancing” movies (like Step Up and countless others where girl meets guy and they do dance routines together for some reason, and then fall in love…)

17) I have a crazy fear of getting hit by a train.  I try to avoid train tracks if at all possible.  

18) I’m very claustrophic and won’t even watch movies about being trapped anywhere/buried alive.

19) My father wanted to name me Gertrude… after his ex-girlfriend.  My mother said “No” (THANKFULLY!!!)  My name, Rebekah, is the biblical spelling… and no one ever spells it right.  I could never get ready-made, personalized stuff as a kid.  Also, if you call me “Becky”, don’t expect a response.  I’ve been “Beka” since I was a toddler.

20) I have pulled my car over on roads/highways and demanded a passenger retrieve trash they threw out my window.

18. I went to a very small Catholic high school, even though I’m not Catholic (I guess I am “ethnically”, but was never baptized or taken to church). My mom thought it would be a better education (jury is still out on that).

19. I’m sort of obsessed with Princess Kate. I’m normally not into celebrities and definitely not royals, but there’s something about her that I love. She and William just seem like such normal and nice people and they seem to have a wonderful relationship. I guess it’s just nice to see famous people who seem really classy and down to earth (not to mention beautiful!)

20. I hate hot weather and anything above 80 is uncomfortably hot for me.

Beka, I have a good friend at work with the same spelling as you and everyone gets it wrong too. She gets annoyed when her name is right there on the email, but the person will spell it “Rekebekah” or something. Haha. She goes by Beki among friends, but most people at work call her Rebekah and get confused when I refer to her as Beki.

No no they weren’t all broken at one time. They have been broken over the years my first broken bone was my left thumb when I was 4 when an air conditioner fell out of a window and landed on my thumb. And the last bone to break was my right hand. 

eta: read that wrong lol. Yes I have had many broken at the same time some just minor fractures others major breaks. Most were when I was very young and liked to do things like see if I could jump from the roof of my house onto the neighbors apple tree.

It seems absurd now as Lauren is a pretty common name especially amonst the under 25 set, but until I hit about 12 or 13 no one could get my name right. Either they called me Laura, Laurie, or Lorraine, or they spelled it wrong- Loren, Louren, Lorin, Loran, Lorren, Lorne, all kinds of craziness! Now it’s such a common namee as to be unbelievable that people had so much trouble with it.

Kate Monster, that’s surprising! My name is Laura and you’re right – it’s so popular. In elementary school there were three Lauras in my class. In high school we had a Lauren, Laure, and Laura (me). In my 66 person class in college there was a Lauren, Lauran, and Laura (me). I’ve always been surrounded by people with almost the same name as me!

I’m still surprised that people couldn’t spell Lauren. I feel like more people call me Lauren than actually call me Laura. Haha.

4. I have a weak spot for teen drama tv like The OC, Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars

1)  My husband Stan and I have known each other since we were three-years old and have been together for 12 years and married for 5 and 1/2.  We have pre-K pictures of the us together.  He’s my best friend in the whole world!

2)  When I pluck my eyebrows, I sneeze.

3)  I’m almost always too hot, except when I’m sick.  If I’m ever cold, I know there’s something wrong with me.  I love when it’s cold outside, which is one of the reasons why we live in Colorado instead of our homestate of Florida.  I love snow and ice, and summer is my least favorite season.

4)  We no longer have cable and don’t miss it at all.  Wish we still had HBO, though.  Netflix rocks. 

5)  I have no tattoos, and it took me 21 years just to get my ears pierced.

6)  When it comes to pop music, I know practically nothing.  I had no idea who the Jonas Brothers, Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber were until fairly recently.  I love classical music, jazz, movie and games scores, and my favorite band, Beirut, along with a few other random songs and pieces.  I know more Korean pop music than American, because of watching Starcraft II competitions based in Korea, lol.

7)  I’m good at picking out where modern day music and game scores have borrowed from classical composers (for instance, the theme from Troy took so liberally from Shostokovich’s Fifth Symphony that it was practically open theft.  There’s a theme in the game Diablo II that takes from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde.  I know… huge nerd).

8)  I love gaming, especially RPGs and World of Warcraft. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love to game.  I probably got into it because of my big brother, who is one of the most important people in my life.

9)  I almost died a year and 1/2 ago in a car accident where my car flipped three times on the freeway.  The buns were in the backseat and Momo got a little scrape on her nose.  I was diagnosed with PTSD after the accident and couldn’t drive for about six months. 

10)  I have a distant cousin who is transgender, and I support her lifestyle and identity, as I support the LGBT movement and gay marriage.

11)  I was a Republican like my family for most of my life until I actually learned about politics and realized I’m a liberal all the way.  My husband worked as an Organizing Fellow for Obama for America and got to meet him!  We are both Democrats.

12)  I love to try unusual foods.  I’ve tried haggis, blood sausage, borscht, eel, octopus, squid, and even horse, although I was tricked into that by my Italian roomates in Florence and wouldn’t have done it otherwise… I would like to try geoduck one day, but I don’t know where I’ll have the opportunity.

13)  We have a peace lily that Sagecat gave us named Simon after Simon Pegg, since he had a peace lilly in Hot Fuzz.

14)  I knit and make jewelry and sell them in my online etsy shop, The Sleepy Rabbit.  Sagecat and I are sharing a table at an upcoming craft fair!

15)  I don’t wear any makeup except lip gloss, I let my hair air-dry 90% of the time, and I only use one purse for all occasions.  But I love skirts, dresses, and pretty tops, and I almost always dress up, even on casual occasions.  I hate wearing jeans.  They make me feel like I’m in a sausage casing.

16)  I’m technically an introvert, but I talk people’s ears off and love to make friends everywhere, from cab drivers to the pharmacists at Super Target.  Our UPS man and I are hugging buddies.  The only thing is, it exhausts me, and I’m happiest when I’m home with Stan and our bunnies.

17)  I love to read and my favorites genres are English satire, 19th century novels, biographies, fantasy, and sci-fi.  The longer the book the better, because I don’t like for things to end.  I don’t read quickly, however, because I like to savor almost every word, and I will read for hours every night.

18)  I loathe cigarettes, but it doesn’t bother me when people smoke weed.  Weird, huh?

19)  I went to music school for one year before transferring to English.  I was going to be a classical singer, but now I mostly sing for amateur recordings.

20)  One time an email was sent around asking friends to describe each other with one word.  One friend’s word for me was Flibbertigibbet.  It fits quite well.

1. My front teeth were blackish-brown until I was 6 years old. I looked like a pirate.

Seriously, I think most people don’t really understand the meanings of “extrovert” and “introvert.” You don’t have to be shy to be an introvert, nor do you have to be outgoing to be an extrovert. It’s all in what energizes you.

For instance, I talk to darn near everyone every where I go (which is why Stan prefers to grocery shop alone… I take forever talking to people! lol). But at the end of the day, if I’ve spent tons of time with people, I’m exhausted and drained. If I spend the day with just Stan, I’m happy and calm. But because I talk to people so easily, no one has ever believed me when I say I’m an introvert! They think it means “shy.”

Now, my sister-in-law is an extrovert because she can spend the whole day with people and feel energized and fantastic. The more time spent around people, the better she feels.
