In an effort to keep my bedroom and Oreo’s condo a little more tidy, I decided to transition to using a hay rack instead of piling the hay in the front of her litter box (which she inevitably would push out and onto the floor before eating). However, she doesn’t seem to know what to do with it and hasn’t eaten much hay since I put it up. It’s basically a plastic bin zip tied to the side of the cage next to her box. Is there anything I can do to help her figure out that she should be eating the hay out of the rack?

I would put some hay in the litterbox for now AND provide the hay bin. Bunnies get used to their ways- and you might need to transition over to a hay rack more slowiy.
Or better yet- pretend you don’t want her to use the hay rack- that will make a bunny do anything. Just kidding- LOL.

You might try smooshing a little bit of banana on the bin where she can reach it. That’s what I’d try first. You can also use a dab of organic applesauce. Once she gets the hang of it, it looks like a good setup.

just pull chunks of the hay through the bars so that they’re kind of sticking riiiight out at her when she’s sitting in her litter tray, that way there’s no way she cant see it

LOL So true! Maybe if I scolded her every time she sniffs it, then she’ll start using it. That seems to be the way it works with her chewing the baseboards

Some rabbits don’t like “confined” hay racks because it’s too much work. My pair eat more hay when they can bury their faces in it and sort thru for the “yummy” bits. I would definitely try starting it for her, and pulling some partway thru. Maybe she’d figure it out.
