Hello, a couple days ago my boyfriend and I discovered a small raised spot on our bunny’s ear that looks like a mole. It is about the color of a scab but is not falling off, and has small hairs growing around and on it.  We are not sure what it is because we haven’t seen anything like it before.  Could this be an indication of skin cancer? The area is not tender, nor is the ear swollen.  Does anyone know what this could be?

the pics aren’t showing up. I’m haven’t heard of bunny moles before, so poked around on the morfz health links about skin conditions. I didn’t seen anything that sounded similar to what you’ve described. 🙁 I even poked around about rabbits and cancer and there wasn’t much like you described either.

Any type of skin trauma can result in infection and abscess in a rabbit. Sometimes superficial wounds can also introduce bacteria into the skin nd allow development of infection. Any lump or bumps should be examined by a veterinarian.

Hi, thanks! We are taking her to a vet on Saturday (or earlier if we can get an appointment) – a few different people from the rescue I work with said it COULD be a melanoma poor little Nilla Bean. She was a rescue from Garden Grove where all these bunnies were living outdoors because they had been dumped, so we were thinking maybe she was one of the ones that had been out there for a long time and was exposed to the sun too much.

Bailey has had little red raised bliister like spots that my very rabbit savvy vet could not figure out. They first thought it was a bug bite, and then it grew and they removed it and did a biopsy, it was not cancer, but it grew back. The results just showed it was an unknown inflammation. She gave me some herbal ointment to try, but that didn’t help, they just ended up going away on their own after several months.

I hope that Nilla Bean will be okay. Keep us updated.

Well, Nilla Bean went to the vet and she is going to have to have the little spot removed. The vet did not seemed concerned (I found a vet that was highly recommended by the North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary) and said that it would be best to have it removed sooner rather than later, and scheduled Bean for a visit on Tuesday. She said the procedure will be pretty simple and Bean will just need two stitches. We asked the vet to weigh her, and lil’ Bean weighs 1.1 lbs.!

Hopefully all will go well with the surgery. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep a bunny from removing another bunny’s stitches? We are afraid Teen might try to take them out of her ear. (She is grooming my toes right now – probably an attempt to sweet talk her way out of going to the vet!)
