My smaller bun’s been having this really bad habit over the last few days. Whenever I give her her pellets, she’d eat a few, then proceed to move the bowl around with her mouth, make lots of noise, then refuse to eat anymore. It’s never happened before. Anyone experience something like this?

Also, when i tried to pick her up this morning to let her out of her cage, she started to squeal (softly) a couple of times. I touched her all over to make sure she wasn’t injured, and she didn’t seem to have anything wrong. Any idea what’s causing this? Getting a little antsy with all this awkward behaviour. Not to mention she’s scheduled in for a spay on Monday…

With the pellets, had she been getting a food mix before (with seeds and cereal pieces)? If so, she could be looking for “the good stuff” and then gets discouraged when it’s not in there. Or, maybe she just likes dragging the bowl around (my lop will pull it closer to him, and further away from my mini rex). Were her teeth evaluated at her pre-spay appointment?

She’s never had any food mixes so that can’t be the reason =( She’s scheduled in for a pre-spay appointment the same morning as the spay, so I won’t know till then. I have to say it’s not really the bowl dragging that’s the most worrying, but rather the fact that she refuses to eat the pellets after she drags it.

What if you feed pellets by just dumping them into the cage or pen? will she eat them then? When my bunnies were younger I fed from a bowl- but now that they only get a limited amount- I dump the pellets in their pens and let them forage for the pellets.

Is it a new bag of pellets? Maybe they are off some how; stale or the hay that went into them was different. If they are new, you could try picking up some from a different batch.
