I adopted Oreo just 4 days ago and am so excited to have a bunny in the house again. I had two growing up and have missed them terribly since they both passed about 4 years ago. After graduating from college, getting a new job and all of that jazz something just seemed like it was missing. I debated getting another bun for a few months and then I met Oreo at a local shelter and fell in love with her spunk and attitude (it also helped that she’s named after my favorite cookie heh). I just had to bring her home!

Anyway, Oreo is an adorable 2 year old black netherlands dwarf mix with a white belly, thus her name. She absolutely loves running around in circles, jumping about and then flopping over in exhaustion. Chewing the bars of her cage is also a favorite passtime. Right now we’re working hard on litter training and learning to use her attitude on good and not evil

So glad to be back in the world of bun lovers! I mean, who can say no to an Oreo?!

It is good that you’re trying to mold her towards the powers of good. I let my dutch find her own path and now, well, I needta lock up all the sharp objects at night. She may not have an oppoable thumb, but I’m not taking any chances.

Welcome! Sounds like she is settling in nicely. I have an Oreo as well and I agree, you just can’t say no to an Oreo!

I can definitely see some similar markings!!  I’m so excited that you mentioned this since the shelter couldn’t tell me much of anything about her breed. Aaaand speaking of adorable bellies…

Is the fur behind her ears tan or a silvery color? If tan, she’s a black otter, if silver, a silver marten

Yup, Oreo definitely looks like a black otter Netherland Dwarf rabbit! That makes…4 black otters around here, I think (including Remi in my signature). Welcome to you and Oreo

Behind her ears is the same white-ish color as her belly

OMG LANI, I want more pictures of your baby!!!!!!!!!  (I giggled and squeaked!) she looks 100% nethie, but I could be wrong. Sometimes there are gene differences and the nethie can be a big bigger.

It looks like you have a silver marten. If the color of fur behind the ears is white, it is a marten. If it is tan, it is an otter. Otters have a tan/white belly.

Here is my girl, see the tan behind the ears?

heehee…I was waiting for LoveChaCha to discover this bunny. Welcome Lani and Oero. She’s adorable!

A small FYI  Silver Marten is a breed name as well as a colour pattern name. So other breeds (like your Oreo) can show this colouring. I agree with the others, breed-wise she certainly looks like a Netherland Dwarf.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! And for the info about her breed/coloring, it’s wonderful to know more about my new bun

LoveChaCha, I promise to post more pictures after we have play time today.  She scolded me for the camera flash yesterday so I have to be careful
