Today we had to put Monster to sleep…when we adopted him he had a growth on his lower eye lid and recently it started to get bigger and seemed to have spread.  It got to the point where he couldn’t blink his eye cause the tumor had gotten so bad.  In one week it had gotten suprisingly worse and the vet was concerned that it was cancerous and spreading.  Because of what had developed in one week it went from just removing the growth to removing the eye and sewing the space shut.  We were bringing him in today planning on a $400 surgery and it went up to $1400.  We just couldn’t afford that and I feel horrible about it….  we decided it wasn’t worth putting him through a surgery (that we couldn’t really afford) have to go through a recovery time period, only to possibly have to deal with an ongoing disease and be without his eye…  Thanks for letting me post my situation..I’m really torn up about it.  That’s all I can post for now… here are two pics of him.

Katie, this must have been so hard for you and your husband. I’m keeping you in my thoughts.
I cannot remember, was Monster one of a pair? When you feel able, I’d love to hear more about him.
Wishing much peace to you and all the furry ones.

How awful. I can’t imagine what you are going through right now. I agree with Monkeybun, he knows he is loved.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your bunny friend. Don’t blame yourself, hun…you probably saved him a lot of pain and suffering. I’m sure he knew how much you loved him and he wouldn’t want you to feel bad.

I’m so sorry to hear about Monster.

Another way to look at it is that you adopted a bunny that was already in poor health from the growth around his eye, very likely cancerous, and gave him a family and home full of love while he was well enough to enjoy it. It’s a hard choice that you made, especially when finances are part of the decision, but it was what you saw to be best for him at that moment and that’s all any of us can do. He is at peace knowing how much you love him.

Hugs to you. I will light a candle for Monster to cross the bridge.
