Does anyone else have a bunny that has weird fur patterns when they shed? This has been going on for months. She has all these strange lines on her. I imagine from where old fur still is vs new fur coming in?
Do you think my brushing helps speed the process up? Or is it making it worse?
I love her to death but she is starting to look like a derelict

Some bunnies will continually shed all year I think that is becoming the norm with my bunny. She has a crescent moon on her back area. It is quite silly. Her fur is black yet the ‘moon’ on her back is white!

Have you tried gently plucking? I don’t use a brush anymore.

Felony starts his shed up where his mane ends at his ‘shoulders’ and goes down to his booty. He does look pretty homeless when he’s going through it. Plucking seems to work the best when he’s shedding, for me at least.

It is normal! Just a funny looking shed! My bunnies have the weirdest shedding patterns. Some sheds are just more pronounced than others.

The rabbits with the agouti colouring (like Lucy) often have these lines because of the bands of colour along the hair shaft. My agouti has dark tips on the ends and these create dark lines.

Kinda funny when they appear on the face. This is an older pic of him but it shows what I mean. I see these lines anywhere on him and they move gradually.

Very normal. And I was just gonna say the bit about agouti rabbits, but… as usual Jersey beat me to it.

Olivia sheds like Lucy. Stormy and Bindi just lose patches of fur all over and look like they got in a big fight.

Sammy develops those lines, too. In fact, she sheds so little in terms of fur coming off of her that it’s the easiest way for me to tell she’s actually shedding. Last night I combed her and her fur was really silky. Now that you mention it, she no longer has any lines showing so I think she has finished a shed.

The lines are quite normal, and often quite silly. Derelict is a good word.

I love the hair buster comb. It’s not a brush and takes off a lot of fur but gently. Good for both short and long haired bunnies.

Haha. Nice! I think the agouti colored buns tend to show the lines more than other colors – Hannah has a continuous shed line along her nose, and gets them on her bum too. Otto is black, so I’ve never seen a shed line on him, but I have noticed them less on “solid” colored bunnies at the shelter too. Something about that agouti fur pattern makes them look a little funny. Love the word derelict!

Sunny has a “V” on his head, it started down near his nose, now it has expanded all the way up to between his hears and is barely there anymore. He is only 3 months old, so I wasn’t sure if it was going to go away!

Wookie (my agouti) is going through the same thing! I was just coming to post about it when I say yours. My boyfriend had him in his lap while we watched a movie last night, and plucked him. He is completely uneven on one side right now, and the difference in amount makes it seem like the areas with less fur would be more sensitive, but he seems happy with it! He sat quietly and even started “purring” with his teeth while he was getting plucked. When my boyfriend stopped, Wookie seemed outraged 🙂 I’m glad to know its normal!
