I thought maybe she would start once she got used to me and the house and everything, but I’ve had her now for almost five months. Little Miss (A.K.A. Dutchess) will not sit in my or anyone else’s lap for pets! She’ll sit beside me for the longest time and I’ll pet her to my and her heart’s content, but she refuses to just sit in my lap or cuddle with me while I’m sitting. I can hold her while I’m standing, but she won’t cuddle with me sitting  Is it something I’m doing wrong or not doing, or is this just her personality? We go to Hoppy Hour and I see other bunnies cuddling, and videos on youtube and stuff, and I’m here with a bunny who won’t snuggle. Is this a normal bunny behavior/others bunnies do this? Is she not comfortable or doesn’t she feel safe? Maybe she’ll do it when she’s older? She lets me pet her all over and really rub on her face and ears and stuff with her eyes all shut and happy, but she won’t snuggle in my lap. I even see bunnies falling asleep in their owner’s arms, sometimes belly up, and I’m thinking she’d never do that with me. She will rarely jump into my lap, walk around, then hop off right away if I try to start petting her. Is it bunny mum’s fault or just her personality??

My Peppy loves getting pet, but doesn’t like being a lap bunny either. However, I’m trying to get her used to it by calling her for a treat, and refusing to give it to her until she sits in my lap. I’m hoping that eventually, she won’t be so averse to it in the future!

Most rabbits aren’t lap sitters – this is pretty much how most rabbits are. There may be the special few that are, but it’s not typical at all. Pets are fine, laps most likely not.

Honestly, I’ve never met a rabbit who was a lap sitter. Hannah loves pets on the ground, and loves to come up on the couch, but I still haven’t convinced her that getting petted while on the couch is a good idea. Haha. You’re not doing anything wrong – it’s just a rabbit thing. You’re lucky that she’ll sit next to you at least!

Okay, it makes me feel better that bunnies aren’t lap sitters! I’ve been thinking that I’ve been doing something wrong. She usually gallops over for pets when I get on the floor, which is why I was wondering why she doesn’t just climb on up. Elrohwen-I will sit on the floor when she’s on the couch, and pet her from there, and also sit on the couch and pet her, so maybe you could try sitting on the floor, so you’re at her eye level, and it might make her more comfy with it.

I’ve actually tried that lately – it sometimes works for a few seconds, but generally Hannah is really alert when she’s on the couch and not interested in pets at all. Otto won’t even let me pet him though, so I take what I can get with Hannah 😉

At least your bunny lets you pick her up! lol My bunny goes all exorcist on me whenever I try. He’s so fast and so against it, I can barely catch him anyways to pick him up. It’s like he as a sixth sense that tells him when I’m approaching ‘amicably’ and when I’m approaching to try and pick him up for whatever (usually utilitarian) reason. He springs right out of my hands.

He also loves pets but also will not sit on my lap. Some rabbits don’t even let their owners pet them too often, so you should feel lucky that you’re that bonded to her. I think the treat thing to get them to sit on your lap, which peppypoo mentioned, might work over time.

I agree, she sounds normal to me! I have one rabbit who is pretty hand shy but can be pet and another who will tolerate being picked up pretty well. Neither are content to be held or stay on the lap.

With the boy, I can pet him at certain times. A few pets first thing in the morning and then again later in the day. I usually “ask” by giving him a few light strokes on the top of his ear (top being the base as he’s a lop) and if he accepts, he just melts down for a nice massage. : )

I even see bunnies falling asleep in their owner’s arms, sometimes belly up, and I’m thinking she’d never do that with me.

On the back, belly up is not really sleeping. It is putting them in a trance of sorts.

Mine won’t sit on my lap nor cuddle with me. I occasionally put my blanket over her head and she finds a way out.

Yeah rabbits don’t sleep on their back when their with the owners… its trancing. Its dangerous and only should be done for nail trimmings, exams. Not for fun.

My baby bunny climbed on my lap and stays there and i pet him, and he seems to like it coz he’s closing his eyes, that was after he played, he went to my legs and just rest in there and suddenly he climbed up. Maybe its his personality, not sure. This is my first time taking care of a bunny
