When I lay down with my bunnies when they’re lounging, Roger will immediately start grooming me all over, but Vicky will act upset. She will put her ears back and start lunging and growling at Roger and then slap his face with her claws when he asks her to groom him.

Normally, they are lovebirds and will groom each other all the time, but if I lay down with them the dynamics change and my girl get’s very irritable…

Why are they like that and what can I do to change it?

That is kinda funny…that she’s so cranky about this.

Are you able to pet her while Roger grooms you or does she want nothing to do with either of you at that time?

Would you say she’s the more dominant of the two? I had read their social structure in warrens is a matriarchy (her full name isn’t Victoria by any chance?!). Make me wonder if she had initiated the interaction with you it might be OK but not if he does…

Does she get over it fairly quickly?

I found one place where I read this about social groups. http://www.coloradohrs.com/care_pairing.asp

            Dominance Displays
Rabbits often go through “dominance displays,” each expressing dominance over the other. Chances are the female domestic rabbit will actually be the dominant of the pair since the societal structure of the European wild rabbit is a matriarchy. But the male must let her know that he isn’t just a doormat, too. So each will display dominance to the other. If the male is a doormat, the female will become disgusted, and attack him. This pairing may not work, but you can try again a day or two later. Sometimes after thinking over what happened, the rabbits will approach the situation with different attitudes

This is more in regards to bonding new rabbits but groups and pairs with have little dominance play offs in their relationship.

Sounds to me like she’s jealous!

She lets me pet her normally, but if I pet Roger or even go near Roger she gets mad!

she acts pushy, but Roger will hump her when she gets too out of line and then she totally gives in.

yes, she usually goes away and pouts for a minute but then gets over it (unless she slaps Roger with her claws too many times and makes him mad, then he will chase her around to hump her)
