EDMONTON — William Lavery may have considered his pet rabbits his “babies,” but when animal protection officers found them in an abandoned bus last year, the animals were sickly, injured, malnourished and covered in filth. Four were dead.

Lavery pleaded guilty in an Edmonton court Wednesday to causing an animal to be in distress and was fined $3,000.

The animals were discovered by a photographer and models doing a photo shoot on Nov. 10, 2009. Crown prosecutor Christian Lim said the rabbits were caked with feces and soaked in urine, and some appeared malnourished. Some had bite marks on them and some were missing their testicles or penises. Many of the animals had contagious infections and urine burns, Lim said.

Of the 41 live rabbits taken from the bus, 26 were euthanized. The rest were placed for adoption.

That man should get jail time! That’s horrible that they suffered so and most had to be euthanized. They suffer the same as if it would have been children in that bus. How is $3000.00 justice for those bunnies? Edmonton should seriously update their animal cruelty laws.

$3000 is low, I think some sort of jail time should have been added as well, as all of this could have been preventable.
BUT… the fine is also one of the larger we’ve seen for animal abuse, so looking at the ‘positive’, it’s a step in the right direction. Justice systems stinks for good people and animals

Those  poor bunnies.      Sounds like they had fought in there probably from lack of food.

Stick him in a bus and bite off his testicles.   See how that feels.   Yea roll around in your own feces and let it stick to your hair.

OH and What?   Oh I forgot to feed my pet human the one stuck in the bus?    Oooops. Guess we gona have to put him down his health is so terrible. He got so sick

Thats a lot of bunnies to put down.           Yes that fine is higher than normal.   Not enuf though just not enuf
