So last night around 4am the collie next door starts screaming it’s head off. Not a normal bark, he was crying and yelping.

A little background. My neighbors keep this collie in their backyard and do nothing with him. Infact, the little girls (3 of them) are scared of him, and scared to death of our pomeranian. Wickett is really scary you know. So, with that said he just lives in a tiny backyard all day with nothing to do. No interaction, no walks, no pets, no love. Why do they even bother having him? It really bothers our family because we have a soft spot for collies anyways since my mom grew up with them and so did I, and just the fact that why would you want a dog just to lock up in your backyard and if your children are afraid of dogs. Really I just want to strangle them. I understand people from different countries treat their animals differently but that dog just wants a loving family. It sucks to have to live next to him, barking day in and day out because no one pays any attention to him.

Okay, 4am. Ruff is yelping his butt off. It was heart wrenching. I went out to the backyard but couldn’t see anything because it was dark, pouring down rain and the shed they have for him for shelter blocks my view. I try calling to him, he keeps screaming his head off. I’m like…okay when are these buttfaces going to wake up and see what is wrong with their dog!?!?!!??!?! Why is my family more concerned then they are?~! So my mom and dad wake up, their window is on the side where Ruff is howling. We think, okay do we go knock on their door and tell them to see what is wrong with their dog??? Call the police and say something is wrong??? It’s a fine line of what to do because we don’t know them well at all. I doubt the police would be very fast to take that call anyways. If no cars were in the front yard we would have gone to see what was wrong but they were home, and you can’t just enter someones backyard like that.  UGHHHHHH. HE CRIED FOR HOURS!!!!!

This morning I knock on the door to see if he’s alright. Ruff’s foot got stuck in the fence and they didn’t even check on him until the morning. I am livid beyond words right now. They should not have this dog.

          =( poor dog!

Your neighbors sound like my neighbors they have a hound who never gets any attention paid to her and she is the sweetest dog ever but since she is not messed with she is terrified of people.

She went missing a few days ago no one looked for her or anything but my dogs would go straight to one side of my fence and bark their heads off when I let them out. I looked and looked and looked but couldn’t find anything (thick vines cover my fence and the hill beside of it). So after 4 days I got on my hiking boots and tore myself up on thorns and briars and found the dog dehydrated beyond belief and tangled around a poll on her already short chain. So I cut her loose and she took off. I actually felt happy for her because she usually has enough room to walk 4 steps to her food or water bowl (when they are filled) and to her dog house. But she got to run and be a dog.

They eventually found her though and the only good thing about me cutting her chain in half is she now has a 6 foot chain.

But had it not been for my dogs no one would have found her until she was dead I can almost guarantee it. They didn’t even look for her.

AC and the police in my town could care less about the animals. There used to be one worker for AC that cared and would help anyway possible but he didn’t last long.

So I can definitely relate to your rant.

Thats disgusting.    Poor dog has  a miserable existence.   Certain cultures aren’t used to pets.    They think americans are so rich n bored that we dote on our pets and even take them to a pet dr.

In some areas though people are barely surviving so animals are usually a means of survival.   Milk food and such.

That poor dog.    No one bothered to go see about it.   Dang.  You know they may not know that yelping meant it was in pain.   No kidding.   Some cultures have  no idea  about animal language.    Unless it is a food animal.

Sorry it has to be that way for this poor dog.    Ouch..  That had to have hurt.  His leg is probably sore from trying to pull it out.

And that thirsty dog . …..    People are just so cruel.

I think we should do what South Africa does to people who neglect their pets: The animal control police will yell and chase the people down and arrest them if they aren’t providing shelter, etc for their dogs. I mean they will CHASE them down. Saw it on Animal Planet.

Lintini can you report them to the humane society or anything? Or can you take the dog in? I know that’s probably not possible though. Poor poor dog.

I’m with bunbuns1… can you report them? Leaving a dog to scream in pain all night long is animal abuse, no question.

                Poor thing!!

This probably isn’t my place, but I find the discussion to be rather racist… even though no specific group is being mentioned. Americans can neglect their animals and have no concept of animal suffering just as much as anyone else.

As for the dog, I feel bad. Situations like that are very sad.

Our cop friend advised us to report it so that when more things like this happen they have a record to make it easier to seize the pet if they have to do that. So my mom is going to do that for us tomorrow.

Some cultures worship a specific animal when others eat them and it’s their ways of life. I didn’t mention any culture as you stated, but you automatically called me out for being an American when really just because I live in CA doesn’t mean I am American. Just saying. This post isn’t about what culture these people are, it’s about letting your dog cry out in pain all night and now it’s 34 outside and he’s out there freezing. Gotta love my neighbors right?

Yeah, I don’t think anyone meant to be racist here.

Poor little guy. I hope he ends up with better parents than those neglectful people!

Do you know if they took him to the vet?

If the kids are afraid of the dog, do you think they’d hand him over to you? So you can look into getting it rehomed? Maybe they took on the dog from someone else so just view it as a burden. Least then they’d be willing to surrender it.

Yes, the story is they got the dog from “Auntie.” He barks constantly so that is really the only reason we could come up with for them getting the dog. Auntie just had to ditch him because of that. No they didn’t take him to the vet. They told us today “he was fine.” We will just have to keep reporting things until someone can do something. Or maybe the SPCA can contact them to see if they would surrender, I don’t know.

I didn’t say you were American. I didn’t even notice that you are in California. I was simply referring to the general comments within the thread, not specially by you either. All I meant was that just because different cultures view animals differently doesn’t mean that there aren’t people from those cultures that love their animals very much and want to take care of them. I’m sure that isn’t want anyone was meaning to say, but someone could be offended if they looked at this thread. I didn’t mean to upset anyone, sorry.

Sorry.  I know these things I mentioned as fact for I know people from all over.  Not mentioning the region anyone is from.  I could but I won’t.

A friend from somewhere said she wanted to be a vet even though her culture didn’t really keep animals as pets  or care for them like we do.

Yes there are definitely people all over who love animals.   And people who don’t care all over.   Certain cultures the majority are afraid of dogs.   Some eat guinea pigs n rats.   We think it is gross.   Doesn’t mean it is right or wrong it is just different.

My previous short marriage He was shocked I took my cat to the Dr.   HE said you have a Dr. for your cat.  HE was just totally shaking his head  was so funny.

Then his ex explained how things were in their country.    It was my turn to be shocked.    They had cats for pets too.   But the mindset on their care is  very different.

Drives me crazy when people abuse animals.   That poor dog.              Some people just dont’ care.   Some just don’t see a pet as a member of the family.

While us who care are so upset when they are abused.   When I was a little girl a younger girl who had been atttacked by a dog came to spend the nite while our parents went out.    She kept hurting my dog.   I beat the crud out of her.  She never came back.   I wonder if she was attacked because she kept hurting the dog.

OR is she was mean cuz she became scared of them.

I hope that poor dog isn’t hurting from his fence disaster.   Wouldn’t you just like to stick their leg in a fence and let them yoewl all nite too.  Perhaps they could turn it in to A/C.   Maybe they just dont’ know what to do with it.
