Wow…harsh review…NPR on Harry Potter

Just heard their movie reviewer…Edington? Erlington? dump a load on the new Harry Potter movie. Not that I listen to reviewers, but I do hope it’s not really as bad as he makes it out to be.

Is anyone here going to see it when it opens? (I probably won’t, although my daughter is going to ‘doggy sit’ so that hub and I can have a date night for the new Narnia movie. Dawn Treader was one of my favorite of the series.)

 

And is it just me, or does anyone here think that Daniel Radcliffe is beginning to look more and more like a very young John Lennon? I think he could play the part if he was asked and there was a script. *nods*

It opened up last night at midnight. Hubby and I are going to see it this weekend. I heard it got bad reviews but then they showed people on the news that were at the opening night and they were all raving about it.

I don’t understand reviewers, so I don’t listen to em. I just go by previews and see if it looks like a bad film or not.

I was truly amazed by deathly hallows. I must say the people that made it put in some things that aren’t expected, so it was quite shocking as well! But it blends in really really well in my opnion. it pushes the actors to their limits of emotion.

haha, dan is really not that bad looking some people don’t think so, becaue when they think of him, they think harry and glasses, but he isn’t bad. I personally prefer Draco

darn, at the end of the movie, i shouted “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! DONT END!”

 

i wouldn’t mind sitting through the second half if it was put together! the movie goes so fast

I think that was the major bugaboo about it, that this reviewer felt you had to have seen all the previous movies, or know the story…egad, who doesn’t by now??…to get this movie. Honestly, when we lost Richard Harris as Dumbledore, I think the whole franchise suffered…but not enough for me to not want to see it through to the end.
I simply won’t be going yet as it is really heavy winter weather up here right now and driving is too dangerous for the 30 miles to town for a movie…it’ll have to wait until a more favorable time.
So…nobody drop me any hints…lol…I want to be surprised! ^_^ Or if you must…please put a big SPOILERS up so I’ll stop before I accidentally see plot! xD

I just saw it. I have not read any of the books but have seen all the movies and if you haven’t read the books/seen the other movies, you will be lost. But that can be said of any of the movies after the first one.

I have no clue what’s in the book vs the movie. I thought it was really good and can’t wait to see the second half.

The books were all great, except for the last one in my opinion, as it was an awful lot of content all smashed into one book and at times I really felt JK was grasping at straws trying to keep the story together and yet keep it interesting at the same time.

I am waiting for red riding hood       waiting for eclipse at blockbuster.   Too hard on my back to sit thru a movie at a theatre.  The next day I pay with a lot of pain.

Right now I am watching    Live Animals.     On my fav channel Chiller

Hubby is out so I get to enjoy my scaries.

The thing with reviewers if they say it is good I usually don’t like it.   If they say it is bad then I usually like it.   I am usually opposite of what they say.   lol .   Just goes to show

lol…I’ve got Twilight and New Moon on DVD, but haven’t watched New Moon yet. I was hoping to get daughter to watch it with me, but she’s lost interest in the series I think.

Since Dr. Who is ending the 4th season specials on PBS (David Tennant was in Goblet of Fire, so it’s technically not a thread hijack) I will have to watch Hamlet now to see him act. But there’s so many films I want to see in theater. I agree, it’s agony on the back. I just don’t like being there, except for the big screen means I don’t have to wear my glasses. ^_^

And I will probably pay for it tomorrow too. lol I came home and sat down on my couch and got bad muscle spasms that started at the base of my spine and went up to about my shoulder blades. It only seems to happen when I’ve been sitting for a long time. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. lol

I’ll probably end up waiting til the new HP movie is on dvd. I forgot about how uncomfortable theater seats are for me.. doubly so with my knee problems, and now this tattoo healing on my back. Will be a month before I can lean back on stuff without it letting me know it is displeased

Jason Isaacs is a semi-regular on a movie review show in the UK (he and the reviewer Mark Kermode went to school together) and Isaacs apparently said if you haven’t read the book then don’t see the movie because you’ll be lost. Actually from what I understand he was a little less diplomatic than that, lol.

I need to re-read Deathly Hallows before I go see the movie. I agree that there was a LOT in that book and there’s no way it could possibly have been scrunched into one movie. So I’m not surprised that the end of this movie feels off, it’s because it’s not really the end it’s the middle!

I agree that if you haven’t read the books, you will be confused by the movie. There is some left out of the movie (of course) and some things were changed in the film.

Mimz, I think that Deathly Hallows is a very fast paced book. I understood why Hedwig died when I saw the movie. My friend next to me was balling her eyes out. I don’t think that the deaths are just because she wanted to kill people off. There is significance to it.

I am personally pleased with DH. I would totally see it again

I thought it was funny how on one of the late shows, Daniel said he asked for a few of the pairs of Harry’s glasses as mementos. That must’ve been cool. Though personally, I think I would’ve wanted a wand…or maybe Norbert…or Fluffy…lolz ^_^

Rottentomatoes.com is giving it a 79%, which is really good, actually. The viewer rating was 91% – I think viewers love the series so much that they’ll love just about any HP movie, but if reviewers are at 79% it must be decent.

Okay, I changed my mind, I’m back….lol.
I did hear that one, oddly enough on Glenn Beck’s show. (I keep my radio on at night and his show comes on first thing on weekday mornings…but I usually sleep through it.)
He used to be a funny commentator, but I think he’s gotten too big to be funny anymore.

And no, I didn’t throw the book away, but I don’t remember it reading quite like that. I’ll have to ask my daughter for it back so I can look it up. 0_o

Just want to pop in and say I saw the movie on Friday. It was a matinee and the last day of my vacation so sprung for the full price and wide screen. I usually wait for DVDs. Anyway, I tried this new theater that opened nearby and it had really wide aisles, high backed seats and lots of leg room.

I would say that it is strictly a sequel. Not to be taken as a stand-alone movie. So don’t come in on it without a HP background, movie or book or both, and you’ll enjoy it. A sequel this long and complicated should not have to waste time on exposition just to bring the occasional movie goer up to speed. So it doesn’t.
It is true to the books growing up with the kids, so I was a bit nervous for young kids seeing this one. Some very scary stuff (and upsetting, like Hedwig.) I just remember being really young and the simplest images in movies or TV upsetting me, so this is loaded with things like that. (Who’s afraid of snakes here? If so, get your fingers ready to go over your eyes. Lots of snake shots.) But hey, we thought the books were getting really miserable for a while there, too. JK always had a “that’s life” style to her story.
But it’s beautifully filmed. The scenery is really breathtaking, the special effects are stunning and the choppy camera/editing was less difficult to follow than in Half-Blood. Like they worked out some bugs when they tried to overachieve and got it right in this one.
Not much explanation, even if you’ve read the books. I could see it being confusing at times if you’ve just been following the movie series. Heck, the books got hard to follow sometimes as well. I thought the last book bogged down seriously in the countryside portion. The movie was pretty true to that, but I found that whole segment of the story a bit way, way off the path and sooooooooo long to weed through. Sort of in the weeds in the weeds part. So much of the book could have been cut with that, and an hour of the movie would have gone with it. My kingdom for an Editor!

Anyway, I wanted it to have an Intermission and just be a 4 hour movie and see both parts at once. I mean, even the Sound of Music was able to pull that off. Most people who have gone this far with the books/movies are die hard fans and would sit still for it. Or maybe have Part I playing in one theater and Part II playing next to it, with half price tickets if you’ve come to see both. When is Part II being released? If they wait a year they will lose most of the momentum. Everyone knows how it ends – just read the book.

I *think* Part II is supposed to be released in the spring? And then my guess is that they’ll release both movies on DVD together in a set in time for Christmas.

Oh I read fast     I read   Eclipse in 2 1/2 days    and New Dawn the same.

Brandons fiancee told me she saw Eclipse at walmart yesterday it is out Hurrah.  

I gotta get True Blood too.  Can’t watch it with hubby home.   So when he naps I can come out n watch them.  

got to see it last nite.     Bizzare but  interesting.          Having not seen it from the first one I am kind of at a loss.

Tried watching it last SAturday and they had this guy  tied up with  blood all over n hubby said you like this @*&*  

So much for that.   He might go for  Eclipse and the whole twilight series cuz it is not bloody.   Pretty tame on that issue.

         Well,besdies Harry & Hedwig…obviously….

         I’d have to say both Dumbledore and Fawkes. I think they made the perfect wizard and familiar team. I loved how Fawkes came to Harry’s rescue in Chamber of Secrets…and cried when he flew away never to return at the end of Half-Blood Prince.

         Luna Lovegood reminds me of myself…in a way.

         Sirius and Lupin. Nuff said.

         And Hagrid is frequently amusing. But not as funny as Dobby.

Now which charcters do you love to hate? Besides He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?

For me…that nasty woman from the Ministry….with her little kitty plates mewling in her office all the time…I kept expecting them to jump out and swarm Harry while she had him in detention….talk about a crazy cat lady….
