We picked up our new foster boy.  Here he is.  Introducing Horton Houdini!  He’s such a cutie.  I can’t believe how small his ears are!  It’s so cute how they are white on the front too.

He barely comes out of his hidey house. My husband said he pet him and he stood up on his kind legs and smacked his hands with his from paws! LOL =)

Oh, he’s so cute! He sounds like quite the character too smacking your hubby’s hand LOL.

Well, that’s what my husband gets for putting his hand inside his house! lol
Horton seems to be a little cage aggressive. He’s quite grumpy when there. He has a 3×4 pen now instead of a cage. He’s a happy little boy when it’s open though. He doesn’t even have to be out of it. He perks up just because the door is open.
I’ll try to get some better pics of him now that he’s happily running around. He was a little scared in the other ones.

I could be wrong, but I think every picture of Horton is a better pic.

He sounds like a guy who just needs to learn to trust humans.  Many new shelter rabbits have that issue since they’ve either been abused or abandoned.  You’d be amazed how many rabbits that are dropped off at shelters actually still believe their humans are coming back for them and will fight to keep others away until they return.  It takes about a month to teach them that they’re not coming back.

I really need to get back to SaveABunny and begin working with those furry friends.

I want to steal him and give him to Chacha.

I love the ones in the box. He’s just too cute! I especially love the black rings around the eyes.

Hopefully you can help him learn to trust again.

Unfortunately I think he’s not going to be able to stay here. He attacked my oldest daughter this evening. She not hurt just a little shook up. She was sitting with me and he put his head down for us to pet him. After a few small head pets and completely unprovoked he jumped up in the air a few times while growling and scratching my daughters arm. He then bit her which thankfully she had pulled her arm away and she barely felt it. She got a few scratches but she won’t go back upstairs. I do like him and I would love to work with him but I can expect my 2 young daughters to act like he’s not here and I don’t want to risk one of my girls getting hurt. He’d be shut in my bedroom all day by himself. So I don’t think that would be good for him either.

Well, after telling the shelter what happened she told me to bring him back tomorrow morning. She said she knew it may not work out and that he acts that way there too. She said she didn’t want to risk my girls getting hurt. So, we are talking about other rabbits tonight and I’ll be getting a new foster bun. Looks like it might be a black mini-lop. I’m disappointed things didn’t work out with Horton though.

That’s ok. Now the shelter knows it’s not just because he was in a cage. They already have a new boy ready to come to us tomorrow.

Aw…sorry it didn’t work out. He’s such a cutie. I hope they are still able to find him a home. Maybe he will calm down once he’s adopted and in a permanent home.

Oh dear! Sounds like Horton needs some anger management classes…I’m sure there will be someone out there for this cute little dude. I could never figure out what provoked Pepe to be aggressive either – it seem unprovoked to me, but then again, I’m not a rabbit and I just cannot always see what they see. He probably does need an all adult household too.

Yeah, I’m sure they’ll find him a good child free home. I’m just glad they know that he needs it before he was adopted to a family with children. They could have had a much worse accident. It’s funny, he doesn’t look like he’s capable of such violence! =)
So we’re bringing home a mini-lop tonight named Trick that has a stuffed puppy he carries around with him. They say he loves to be held and pet and will be very good with the girls.

I saw your other post first and couldn’t figure out where Horton had gone to. Now I see. I’m sorry he lunged for your daughter. Some rabbits will do that with young children. And fortunately, the shelter can now consider this when placing him. This is the big benefit to fostering before adopting, you can work out the kinks before making it permanent.

Meadow has lunged at Michael maybe 5-6 times over her first 2 years with us (we’ve had her over 3 years now). Unlike your foster, she is a permanent member of the family tho, so this is something we’ve had to work around. We’ve been able to educate Michael about the correct way to approach rabbits, to pet them, and to read body language. She calmed down a lot after being bonded to Max also. I also think this gave Michael the important lesson that pets are not “throw-aways” just because they bite you. You learn why they did it and you adjust what needs to be done to help correct the problem. Not everyone would agree with this thinking, but if a person “got rid of” a rabbit every time someone got bit, no one would have rabbits for very long.

You’re doing your girls a great service by educating them on rabbit-human interactions now!

I have a wonderful update on Horton. He was adopted by a place called Critter Camp. He will be living the rest of his days there in a colony of rabbits with personalities much like his own. So he will not be bothered with all the human interaction he did not want. They are wonderful! I’m soooo happy for him.

And Trick was adopted 2 days after we met him!
