I love to crochet and have done a lot of it in the past year.  I did a few craft fairs and made afghans for them.  I only sold 1.  So, no I have all these afghans and I’m not sure how to sell them.  I have fisherman afghans, mile-a-minute afghans and and baby afghans.  I have them on etsy.com and nothing.  I’m not sure what I think about listing on ebay since I have to pay almost $3 even if it doesn’t sell.  Plus their fees are outrageous now.   Just thought I’d see if any of you had some ideas.  Thanks for your help.

Wow, so jealous – wish I could crochet! I bet they are beautiful. I had always thought Etsy was the place for crafters so that is what I would have suggested. How long have you had them on there? What about Craigslist as well in your area…not sure how this would do for these things, but it’s worth a try since it’s also free.

I heard from a lot of people that they don’t have any luck on etsy. I could try craigslist, not sure what that would do since I live in a smaller area.

You should try to learn. I’ve been crocheting for 20 years now. My mom taught me when I was 6. It’s very relaxing for me. Now that the house is about done I can’t wait to start again. I have a few things my Uncle bought from me and one for my mother-in-law. They just don’t seem to want what’s already done. lol. I’m thinking everyone is going to get an afghan this year for Christmas.

I have 2 afghans – one my great grandmother made me that my mom is currently using – it’s so beautiful. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong giving someone an afghan. And one that a great aunt made me.

I love them – not only are they sentimental and useful too but they are gorgeous.

I did learn when I was young to crochet and maybe I’ll take it up again soon. I’d love to make my own afghan.

Is there a small consignment store or craft store in your area or a flea market maybe?

Every now and then the hospitals here seem to have tables set up with various people selling items. I think sometimes it’s like the hospital volunteer association but sometimes they’re from shops. You can always contact a few hospitals and ask about setting up a table in the lobby or by the cafeteria. I’m thinking a nice afghan might be a wonderful way to brighten up a hospital room.

On a related note, if I find/post a picture of an afghan pattern I’m looking for, maybe you’d know it? I think it might be a mile-a-minute one, I HAD the pattern and made a little mini one for my cats and have since lost it but would really like it again.  And I’d really love to see pics of your afghans!

I can definitely see if I know the pattern. If you post a picture I can take a look in my books and let you know.

I’d love to see some photos too! I did some crochet when I was younger too, but I had an aunt who was left handed and she was able to help me out. (I’m very lefty) Since I saw the ‘bonding’ bag Petzy uses for Neigy I’ve tried to relearn, but I’m definitely doing something wrong. I start out with a square, but after a dozen rows I have a triangle…lol

It sounds like you’re tightening your stitch. It take a long time to work that out. Practice, practice, practice. I’m not sure if I can post the link to my etsy store or not because of the forum rules. Otherwise I might have time later to post a few pictures.

If Petzy gave us the dimensions of her bag, could I pay you to make one for me? I think Neigy and Lola are about the same size.

I’d have to see it. I’m not very good without a pattern. I’m not sure how long it would take me either. My uncle is waiting on a baby afghan and my mother-in-law is waiting on a big afghan. I’d have to get those done first. So, as long as you don’t mind waiting.

that’s no problem and I may be able to figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’m glad to know you have plenty of work! 😉

Amy, this is the sample of it.  I think it might be an Annie’s Attic Mile-a-Minute pattern but it doesn’t seem to be in my pattern binder.  Ignore the cat hair on it!

I’m sorry. I haven’t seen that pattern before. All of my books are Leisure Arts.

Here are my Irish Fisherman Afghans.  They are double strand afghans and weigh 5 lbs each.  They are so soft and warm.

I have a few other on the other computer that I may be able to post tonight if anyone wants to see them.

Those are gorgeous Amy – they do look fluffy and warm. Love the popcorn stitch.

Curious, you mention patterns – Leisure Arts, Annie’s Attic Mile-a-Minute (what a name LOL) – how many patterns are there? I imagine there are quite a few. What constitutes as Leisure Arts pattern?

I think perhaps now that it is winter you may also get more inquiries for the quilts on Etsy since it’s the season.

That’s amazing! You are really good! Will give dimenions for my plain-knitted bunny bag when I dig it up this weekend. I have misplaced it. It may be behind my washer come to think of it.

What about Farmer’s Markets? Here, there is one whre you are allowed to set up a stand for free and sell crafts.

                                        Yes, I found it.

It is 10″ wide and 14″ long but it stretches due to the knit stitch

It fits all my rabbits, small to medium like Deirdra

I use it when they are ill or for bonding too

it was meant to be just a bag so it has a pocket inside

Thank you! Leisure Arts and Annie’s Attic are companies that publish pattern books. Mile-a-minute and fisherman are styles. I have probably over 200 patterns between my books. We do have Farmer’s Markets but they are done here now and cost a lot of money to get into. Thanks for all your suggestions and compliments!

We have several little arts/crafts shows every year and I love to buy things like this. We have a group of ladies that sew all sorts of aprons and household items you don’t see anymore. I bought several cloth bags for baking potatoes in the microwave (they work great), but didn’t have the heart to tell her half of them were sleeping bags for the piggies 😉

(Annette, I like yours, too. Especially the cat fur tufts. Very Modern Art.)

Beautiful work! I’ve tried to learn crochet but found it rather difficult and gave up

My guess about the problem selling on Etsy is that there is just WAY too many sellers and items listed. Most things you type in the search get hundreds of results. I assume it’s hard for sellers to get noticed there. I was planning on starting an Etsy accound to sell my crafts but now am not sure if I should.

Black, Gray and Charcoal Throw.  A great afghan for anyone.  Even that special guy in your life!

This is another double strand afghan so it is extra warm and duralbe.

The next 2 are double strand so they are extra warm.  They hold up wonderfully to washings and will last for years.

Oh my goodness! Those are so beautiful!!! I’ve been trying to pick up crochet for a while.  I would say I’ve pretty much hit my limit at the beginners stage.  Could you message me the link to your etsy shop?

I think one way of getting more people to look at your shop is to put a ton of tags on your items.  So instead of just “afgan, blanket, crochet” have those three plus as many adjectives and not-so-relevant-but-still-kind-of-relevant nouns you can think of, “beautiful, soft, warm, fuzzy, cute, art, coat, snuggy, home, decoration”  that way, a person who searches for a “warm coat” or “home decor” or even something like “christmas decoration” might see your item and visit your shop even if it’s not exactly what they’re looking for.  (Not totally sure how tagging works, but that would be my suggestion…that’s how people get tons of hits on their videos on youtube, put as many tags up as they possibly can, some relevant, others not).

Advice: I want to expand my crochet abilities…is there a beginning pattern or stitch or book of patterns you would suggest?  My grandma’s a bit to old and out of it to teach me now, and my mom is completely clueless beyond the stitch I already know.  Right now I’m just practicing by making tons of scarves…or at least starting tons of scarves haha.

Practice makes perfect. The biggest thing is to practice your chain stitches, single crochets, double crochets and triple crochets so that they are all the same size as the other. After that you can make most patterns. It just a matter of getting use to the directions. I would recommend the pattern book “Quick and Cozy Afghans”. I got my copy on ebay but you might be able to get it from the library. There is a stitch pattern guide in the back of the book. Hope that helps you some.
Thank you for the advice. I’ll have to try to come up with some better title. Maybe put afghan, blanket, throw, bedspread…..?

Sometimes the stores have booth things that you (I assume there is some kind of cost in reserving but…) could rent out and set them up there. I was at one recently that had probably about 100 different little booths. Dunno, just a thought! Or what about creating a website for them? They really are very beautiful!

Like having a table at the entry way and some of the proceeds going toward the rescue. People are often more tempted to buy when there’s the bonus of contributing toward a good cause.

I only thought of this because I have seen Rescue websites before that had a store and many items weren’t for rabbits but more so for raising funds.
