I don’t know if you guys remember but over the summer my mom and I started a fairly large project. Originally it was supposed to be mine but then I just waited for my mom to start it….then finish it lol. It was done just in time for my concert tonight!  It’s a design called “Inspired by Cape Cod” and it’s made of real crystal and fresh water pearls! There is about 600 crystals in it and 50 pearls. That is why it took so long to create. My mom is so proud of it!! It was funny I was still wearing it after and she wanted to me to take it off and put it back on the chest thing we have for it to rest on. And now for some goofy pics of me modeling it!!

This is my VERY serious horn playing face. Ready for some loud notes tonight!!!!

What type of pic is this called when you look away? lol

Ohh…how did a sleeping Bagheera get into my post? hehhehehehe!!

Oh wow! How long did it take you? I mean her? lol. I know you said summer and I could estimate but you know, it’s complicated with your summer being our winter and all that. hehe.

I’m loving your posing – they need to do another zoolander movie and cast you! Your hair is very dramatic at the moment btw. the black on black sets of this piece very nicely.

Hehehe! We started it…errr…she started it around the end of June.

Zoolander is such a funny movie! I hadn’t dyed my hair in about 4-5 years then about 3 weeks ago I was bored and changed things up. It’s interesting, my friends really like the color and my parents hate it!

Thanks, my mom seriously won’t stop showing it off. Her friend made fun of my hair color tonight. Sigh. It’s always something.

                              They are starfish! Close enough

The concert went well, I wish we were playing a bit more difficult music but we have a lot of new members and yea…. Just weird playing a 30min long symphony last June and here I was playing music that was easily sight-readable. A lot of us are upset, I wasn’t challenged at all. I hate playing marches, all F horns get are the stupid upbeats…I didn’t buy a 10k$ french horn to play music that I can play perfectly the first run through.

                              Blaaaaaaahhhh!!!

We have a handful of kids that came here from another country on an exhange program and none of them can play their instruments. California is having a lot of issues with funding for colleges and our music program is crashing and burning. I know we need bodies in the band but…. these kids can’t play. It’s extremely frustrating. They sit there, mess up, then giggle like it’s funny. The girls do anyways, the guys are in the low brass and they can’t even read music. I have no idea why they are music majors and why they were auditioned and let into the band. Now we all sit there and suffer. I guess I can just have fun dressing up for concerts until they learn how to play the tuba and euphonium? I mean why would you even become a music major if you are not proficient on your instrument; let alone travel halfway across the world to do so…? I am completely mind boggled and none of it makes sense.

                              You asked!!! lol

Good lord, that’s appalling. Don’t ask me though WHY California (or any state in our union) does what it does…it’s a mystery to more than me.
I remember my vocal teacher taking her groups up to Washington back when I was in high school, simply because they were getting crunched in all the downsizing that was going on back then. If I’d had the money, I’d have followed her.

This kind of thing is just typical though nowadays. Bring foreign exchange students into the country in an attempt to show diversity and acceptance of other cultures. Nevermind if any actually have skills, there has to be some payoff for our government for it. And our students suffer in the process.

Meh..don’t mind me, I’m off on a toot. I just have a sore spot when it comes to music, amature or professional. I hate to see it slaughtered by policy.

                                You looked darn good though!

It scares me since I will be entering the teaching credential program next year to complete my epic journey of becoming a band director. All my friends that got teaching gigs last year were all pink slipped, had to move back in with their parents over the summer, to then get rehired. It’s not cool at all. We work so darn hard on this music degree to teach this gift to children and we are the first to get the boot from the school when they cut back on funding. I’m scared for my future because I’m sure I’ll get pink slips until I get my tenure. Sigh.

Played a trumpet in band growing up.  Loved it.

The libraries are taking a hit too.  Cutting hours asking for more volunteers. thump

Yes the horn is insured…just not in the car…which makes no sense since that is probably the #1 place instruments get stolen from. I just take it with me everywhere when I need it.

Lintini, ask your insurance agent if you can schedule the horn for that coverage – it would be a scheduled item on your parent’s homeowners or as a personal effects floater. It’s probably hard to pawn a French Horn compared to a guitar or something more usual but a thief doesn’t care what they take and sometimes doesn’t know – they just take it and run.
