I just created a section in the Habitat Gallery http://bit.ly/ciMnu7 called Bunny Rooms.   So for those of you that do have bunny rooms you can now get some bunny room bragging rights by  emailing your photos to info@binkybunny.com or  post them here on this thread, and  I’ll grab them from here and put them in the gallery. . Keep the photo size, if possible, anywhere from  500 x 500 up to 700 x 700 would be best.

And for clarification, this is a bunny room where there is no other source of caging, correct? They have complete access to the entire room all the time?

That is so great! I just took a look at it, and I am so inspired by your bunny room, BB. I am most definitely going to copy some of it.

I will e-mail some pictures of mine. I just need to finish the room, but it should be this week, I think.

Oh, right Beka, I can see where this could be confusing

In order for it to be considered a “Bunny Room”  for our gallery — The sole purpose of the room is for the bunnies. There can be a  “hide-out” or “home-base” for them within the room which can be a cage but the room itself is made FOR the bunny..  This is not to  say that a bunny can’t have freedom to explore the rest of the house either, its just that instead of a pen or cage, a room is dedicated your bunny.

So just to be  more clear:   This is NOT a room created  for a human that a bunny can hang out in 24/7. (otherwise that could be bedrooms, living rooms, offices)    It is a room created FOR the bunny.   A human can hang out in if she/he wants to. (like I have a couch and a side table in the bunny room) so I can go in there in and read or do some work, but again it’s sole purpose is housing bunnies

I have two rabbit rooms at the moment. I’ll send in a bunch of pictures of my main, human-friendly one once my bunnies are bonded. More motivation to get them bonded, eh?

Oh…Karla, I missed your post for some reason. I LOVE your bunny room (saw in your other post) — looking forward to getting the photos. Since we are both all over IKEA , you must recognize that my bunny room is filled with IKEA — the futon, the lamp, the side tables, the frames and photos of greens, the storage units, the mini fridge table and even the shop vac hose holders (not in the photos) are IKEA toilet paper roll holders. : P

The only downside of a bunny room is stubborn bunnies choose their litterbox spot and sometimes it’s not the prettiest place.  I have tried over  and over to get the boxes hidden back underneath the side table in the back in the corner, and it worked for a little bit, but Jack can be so bossy over the boxes and Vivian doesn’t like feeling trapped. She also would escape his annoying behavior by going under the couch and peeing there.  So I had to make some adjustments — We made a flexible easy-to-remove piece of coroplast to block underneath the couch, and then I brought the litterboxes to a corner, but more out in the open. I even had to put up a little privacy wicker wall between two boxes (as seen in my bunny room photos) so that Jack would not see Vivian using a box without his permission.

He’s been such a good boy with her lately but I don’t feel like disrupting the peaceful vibes by moving things around to what just suits me..

here is Jennys main area, though she has access to the whole basement. she does have a pen,but its only locked overnight, otherwise she torments my dogs lol oh and exuse the grundgy carpet, thats my previous rabbits damage lol

sorry my room is at on odd angle, its impossable to get the whole thing in one shot lol

the crate is just left open for her for her to play in and on, the little drawer contains her treats and stuff, the 2 cubes are set up for her, the wooden shelf, the bottom 2 shelves are made up into a play thing, and of coarse the playhouse I built for her. you can see the edge of Jennys pen in the one pic.. she was napping when I walked in to grab some pics, hence the look lol. hopefully this will one day be Jenny and Peepers area.

I just got rid of the xpen, but here is the way it was for a while:

Here’s the other angle with a clear view of the bunny house:

                            Wonderful! Keep ’em comin’!

Thanks lwayne and jennyrabbit!  Is there anyway to make those a little bigger or did forum force a resize?

jenny, do have a photo that shows the other side too?   I can only see a bunny cube area just slightly.    Are you able to take a photo of that too?  I will then group them together so it will be understood that they are of the same room.

there you go, the pen area.

how big do you want them? I have them at 500 pixels right now, which is just my standard uploading size, I can make them bigger.

These are nice! I don’t have neat and tidy photos of my room with Bee and Indy. Every photo has turds in it or red eye. I was trying to use a red eye remover and it’s not working.

Indy and Bee have full free range of my bedroom and are never locked up.

Ikea is the way to go  What about this one here:

Is this something from Ikea that you have customised?

I would really like something like that! It is brilliant. So please let me know where you got it form or how you made it.

Our apartment has just been sold, which means we are moving out next month, so I won’t finish the bunny room this time. But once we are settled in a new place, I will send you the pictures, so you have more photos in the gallery.

LOL, you gotta love them for having personalities  Although I am sure it hasn’t been easy always with such strong personalities in the house, it does sound really funny.

Thanks everyone! I’ll let you know if I need them larger once I grab them and put them in.

Karla– Oh, I forgot, that wooden box below the window lounge area is from IKEA (from many years ago). It was a just a plain wooden toy box— think it was in the kids section. And we cut in the entrance(there is also an opening on the the other side.) We just cut the bottom out (as it we used to use it as a litterbox station. The wooden box used to have legs it sat up off the ground– perfect for a litterbox. Anyway, we ended cutting off the box legs, took out the litterbox and now it is Jack and Vivian’s sleeping area/hidey box.

The window lounge area above the box: My husband built that with supplies from home depot. The part that covers over the lounge is just coroplast and we cut a little window in that as well, so they could hide out yet see out still. I covered it with a cloth because it’s white and it’s still too bright for the bunnies to hide out in without the cloth. My husband also made a ramp– we bought material that has alot of traction (sort of like front door mat material) and cut that to fit the ramp and the landing area.

Oh, oh. I’m sorry Lintini and Moonlight. I have really failed at making this more clear. I have edited my posts to try and explain this a bit better.

So just to be more clear: This is not a room created for a human that a bunny can hang out in 24/7. (otherwise that could be bedrooms, living rooms, offices) It is a room created FOR the bunny that a human can hang out in if she/he wants to. (like I have a couch and a side table in the bunny room) so I can go in there in and read or do some work. It’s sole purpose is housing bunnies though.

The way you set up your bedrooms is absolutely wonderful, I wouldn’t consider it a “bunny room” for the gallery.
                                                  I’m sorry.

I cleared the entire spare room out and it has nothin on the floor and one side is all windows! Carpeting is short weave: only room like that. My condo will be 4 cubes wide, 4 tall and 2 deep. Also….surprise! I have this big cage w/ litterboxes and a bottom so I can attach it and make it a litter room and he will have 6 cubes wide on the bottom to run! Omg so much funnnnnn

This is my bunny room.  I have an xpen and a NIC grid wall all the way around the inside to protect the baseboard.  The buns did have access to the loveseat, but sadly Kiwi isn’t 100% on his litterbox, so they aren’t supposed to get on the loveseat.  In these pics Tansy was mad that his boxes were moved and he wanted them back!!  So he decided to go get them.

The NIC grid is usually up all around the loveseat, but he pulled it down.

                                                        They LOVE the crinkle tunnel.

Not an everyday thing, but they do enjoy it!

I will take some more specific pics of it next time I work on it. Franz has been in the bunny room for a few days now! Also I have the bed I got off of the binkybunny site and he doesn’t nibble or potty on it so it’s great! He looks cozy in it. Here are some pics of the bunny room. The only thing for humans is this big metal storage cart that bunny can’t get in and also a folded uncured wooden drying rack I don’t care if he chews on lol.  I put paper on one end of the room cause he’s still being potty trained

You can see part of the condo when I first started it:

Midnight, can you tell me what flooring you used in your condo? I kind of like the design of your condo a bit better than what I’m doing. I am planning on using cheap grass mats (peters seagrass) attached with twine through drilled holes in plywood which I am having cut for the levels. I think my dowel rods are too small… They’re 1/2″ but I an use my 75lb zipties to hold them up. I tested it and it works! Not super solid but I did some stress tests and I think it would ve good for even a Flemish giant. I’m thinking the plywood is not such a good idea anymore because of the peeing thing. I still have time to change my mind! Does coroplast have good traction? I’m mostly worried about traction. My other idea is carpet velcroed on the plywood. Can’t decide!

I have a spare room that’s too small to be used as a room and I’m currently using it as a storage room for suitcases and old books etc. I think it’d make a great bunny room for me to leave her in when I go back to work. I’m gonna clean it out next week and take pictures and see what you guys think?

I wouldn’t be worried about the heat though, it never gets over 20c here. Would that be a problem?

So basically all I have to do i put the bunny in and close the gate. I also plan on building a room outside for my bunny as well, I will get pics as soon as I can.

the only problem is that the floor is carpet, and atticus is notorious for destroying carpet so i was wondering if anyone has any cost effictive ideas to cover the carpet to protect it and to make the floor easy to clean? i am going to round the room with some x-pens to protect the walls and baseboards and would like to have something that can be folded up the xpen on the inside so their poops that dont make it to the litter box stays in their area and not between the xpen and the baseboards. any at all?

I live in an open studio that is just too big for Emily to roam around while I am at work so I am going to use part of her x-pen to make a large “room” and it will be all hers so I do not have to worry so much about cords and he needing out of her cage at 5am! :/ maybe she will let me sleep a little longer so its a revamp of the house this weekend!

My question what are the main things I should have in my bunny room and how do you keep hay from getting all over we have concrete floors so I need to keep it somewhat clean or it ends up everywhere! I think I will buy rugs to put down that are very low pile. She will still get to run around but only when I am home I think that will help me feel like she is safe while I am at work! You guys are all wonderful and I am so jealous of some of your bunny rooms!

But seriously, I would love to have a bunny room made to order, so to speak.  It would have the perfect hay storage containment system, for starters…  And an employee to clean it up .

Sorry for taking so long to reply to you, The flooring I have is called coroplast, and its actually used to make signs. And to make the cage stable i did criss cross zip ties, like an x every place that I put one. I had chapped hands afterwards but the cage is not sagging at all. I really like the way it all turned out, If you have any more questions i would be more than happy to answer them!

We actually finally built the condo last night (w/ zip ties) and it seems pretty sturdy but the X thing is an awesome idea so I’m going to do that idea on all of them just for extra security. Yeah — my hands were definitely chapped after last night and we used a lighter to make the ends of them not sharp and I’m pretty sure I burnt half my fingers off for doing it. Major bunny slave moment right there.

Also, I just realized you’re from Pittsford, NY? As in Rochester, NY???!? I went to school in Brockport and until a year ago lived in Rochester!!! I grew up in the Southern Tier though — near Dansville, a small town called Arkport. That’s so interesting to see someone else from that area on here!

I think it is a bad compromise of wanting to give the bunnies a stimulating room of their own and wanting a room that looks nice and pleasing to the eye, and that I want to spend time in as well.

                                                                                                                        Overview of the room

                                                                                                                        Toilet area

When I had four rabbits living here, at least two of them had a tendency to spray when jumping out of the toilet.
So I put these tiles on the wall to protect the wall from urine. They are from ikea.

                                                                                                                        Karl – making a mess

                                                                                                                        Fresh herbs available

I am doing an experiment to see if I can have fresh herbs available all the time. I really want the bunnies
to sense and taste fresh herbs – I think it is important when they cannot be in their natural habitat.

I am trying out to find herbs that can last longer than a few minutes.

And these are the miserable results of my experiment

These are the herbs that tasted too good and couldn’t survive on the floor. It doesn’t look too good having almost dead plants in the window sill, but hopefully a bit of bunny poop will bring them back to life

I could definitely need some tips on making the bunny room more exciting, so perhaps the inspiration you got might actually make me come up with new ideas for the room.

I liked how you had the fresh herbs and it reminded me of something on pinterest! So I want to do something similar using wheat grass like in this photo. Then when it is ready, let them munch away! Since it is wheat grass and grows very fast they can destroy it and I can just plant more! I think I found a good website at one point for like organic seeds or something…. anyways. You plant one container a day so that by the time one is eaten, then next is ready!

I Like the tile idea because somehow my rabbits get pee and poop 3 feet up on the wall (LOL) and they often pee next to their box. So I was thinking I could maybe do something like that only have maybe 3 walls with tile (make another wall out of wood) and tile the floor. It might be easier to get pee cleaned up then on linoleum. Not completely sure though! Random note, I just got back from Ikea! sorry I kind of just crashed this thread, but I hope you guys will except my apology if I promise to post pictures of my bunny room when its finished! I could post some now I guess… Just not “exactly” how I want it yet.

I haven’t finished it completely (want to add some ramps and stuff, but that might not get done for another 6 months haha) but I am pretty much done!

I procrastinated showing pics of the buns room because we haven’t had time to redecorate since we moved in (awful wallpaper and such) and I don’t have all my bunny decor in there but I can just focus on the part that the bunny’s care about.

What exactly is that feeder? A bird feeder? I’d be interested in something similar for Apollo if I could just get my hands on one! Also, are your litter boxes just cat litter pans? They look like they’re high sided, and I could do with that for king bun too!

It was a $15 cat try we picked up!! We were looking for bowls since they just toss everything and it’s like that with the two bowls inside (you can take them out for easy cleaning) and they hook on. When it’s veggie time I just throw it in the thing but it works awesome for pellets and the veggies which they always get everywhere! They never have a mess anymore. And then the water dish is just one of those dog dishes you can fill to the top with water so it replenishes whenever it gets low.

And yupp, cat litter pans also! The Tans have a bad habit of kicking their litter EVERYWHERE so we got these really large sided ones. I think we actually got them from Target. Maybe…They really help keep everything in though!

When you walk into the door this is what you see. It is a 10×2 “raised cage area” but they can never be closed into it. I had to have these raised cage areas because of a knee problem I have that makes me not be able to bend down easily.

Then this is what you see when you turn around. Pretty much just a mirror closet and a ladder. The ladder goes up into my room.

In this section of the raised cage is their hay, litter boxes, and water dishes. I have a wire mesh in front of the window to stop them from chewing it. The front NIC wall can un-clip and fold down for easy cleaning.

Underneath I have my rabbit storage with my mini fridge in the middle.

This section has the ramp and memory foam mats with towels on top to help with their soar hocks. This is also where they like to sleep.

Their ramp goes down into a dog crate that holds up the cage area. They can also enter the cage by hopping on the drawer (on the right) and then onto their cage.

When I get my bunny I want mine to be kinda like that….is your bunny litterbox trained? If so and you had fleece on the ground you would’nt really have to change it that much, right?

I have to use tons of fleece because my rabbits have sore hocks.

Some great ideas in there too. Personally though, I prefer having my buns in my room with me. Love it when they come up to hang out with me on the bed! Grem is nosing around me as I speak….er, type. They love smoothing out my sheets for me, such helpful buns.

Here are pictures of my bunny room – I am not that pleased with it. I think it is a bad compromise of wanting to give the bunnies a stimulating room of their own and wanting a room that looks nice and pleasing to the eye, and that I want to spend time in as well.

                                                                                                                                                                  Overview of the room

                                                                                                                                                                  Their houses
I try to make sure that they have fresh twigs each week as well as a cardboard box.

                                                                                                                                                                  Toilet area

When I had four rabbits living here, at least two of them had a tendency to spray when jumping out of the toilet.
So I put these tiles on the wall to protect the wall from urine. They are from ikea.

                                                                                                                                                                  Karl – making a mess

to sense and taste fresh herbs – I think it is important when they cannot be in their natural habitat.

The tiles for that litter tray is a great idea! I’ve had to make walls out of cardboard to stop mine peeing up the wall but obviously as it’s absorbant I need to make new ones quite often. I need to find a tray that size too! I currently have 3 cat litter trays lined up in a row since they seem to go over quite a large area…

They come under different names though. If you are in the US, you should be able to find them in Bed, Bath and Beyond, Walmart (labelled as Whitmor storage cubes) and Target. Take care with buying the ones at Target as the grid aperture varies. Rabbits can usually fit their heads through the holes if they’re 3 inches wide.

The whole rooms carpeted, and old shelving wood nailed all around to stop her hacking the skirting boards to bits, and to gnaw on and keep her teeth down, she also has a little gate, which she’s just taken to shutting herself out and so resulting in flopping fully at the top of the stairs, knowing either me or my hubby will be up shortly to give her a nose and back of the ear rub! Unless she decides to come downstairs and join us in front of the tv. If we get up for a tinkle in the night she rushes to the gate for a cuddle. 🙂

But anyway. My boys have the whole run of our basement so they are nice and cool in the summer. I move them up to my bedroom during the harsh Minnesota winters. Their habitat includes laptop for Netflix (favorite show is cake boss, they are GLUED to the screen) strawberry bed, doggy bed with a stool on top with a blankie that they LOVE, and some cute cushions and blankets all around the basement for them. They sure can tire themselves out with such a big space lol.

First three are of my room, last few of basement for summer

                                                                                                                                                                                  It’s a bit of a mission, but until they’re bonded it’s our only choice…

But, whenever we get pet food/bun treats/tubes and all sorts of other stuff delivered, the boxes get a hole or two cut in them and then dropped into the room as part of the bun-fort.
                                                                                                                                                                                  It’s cheap and easy.

Except the brown one is only 6 weeks old so half the size. I was so hoping they would end up bonded like your to, and I am so sad it looks like it may not.

The dining room is connected to the kitchen and she has complete access to both rooms. YES the kitchen is 100% bunny safe. She enjoys her room/s so much more then a cage. She is more friendly, loving, people friendly and loves when we use the dinning room to eat in. she lays on my feet when I’m at the table. She has her own cardboard box home she can hide in (however, she almost never goes in it anymore) and the corner of the room is full of her stuff… liter box, water, toys, etc. Its great. She is liter box trained and when we allow her to roam the rest of the house she now goes back to her room to do her business. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my bunny. just talking about her is making me smile

We’re minimal with furniture. One couch (that he leaves alone), and we have pens around the tv and book shelf when we aren’t home. I’ll let him run to the bedroom when I’m watching, and for some reason he refuses to step on the kitchen floor. We don’t have problems with him destroying things, but he does have a TON of chewing toys that he utilizes… thankfully.
