So this morning, I had Zeus out while I got dressed and ready to go to the barn to visit my horse.  I let him out for about half an hour, then put him away with his breakfast waiting for him in his cage.

I got home, sat and watched TV for about 20 minutes, Zeus is napping in his cage.  Then I get into the shower.  I’m in the shower.. and I hear this quiet thump thump sound.  Alright, whatever, I think maybe it’s one of my neighbors (apartment) and try to ignore it.  Then a few minutes later.. THUMPTHUMPTHUMP.  Ok, that’s DEFINITELY coming from my apartment!   I’m thinking like a robber or something is in my house while I’m in the shower!

So I get out of the shower, and slowly turn the knob of the bathroom door.  I peek out, and Zeus is sitting next to his cage.. not in it!  He looks over at me like, “Oh hi mom, I’m out right now!  I’m not in trouble am I?“  So I’m thinking.. he jumped out?!  He’s never jumped out, what gives?!  Then I look at his cage.. and the door is open about a foot.

Basically, I forgot to lock the cage door before I left for the barn!  Meaning Zeus was home alone with the cage unlocked for 3 hours.   The funny thing is he didn’t get out until I got home and jumped in the shower.. he HATES when I go into the bathroom and close him out.  Oh, and that THUMPTHUMP sound was him digging at the door.. he also chewed a very small hole in the carpet…   But really I couldn’t be mad at him, it was my fault for leaving the door unlocked!

The funniest part was, when I found him out he was sitting all innocently right next to his cage, when the entire time I was in the shower he was digging and tearing at the carpet to try and get in.  You didn’t fool me stinker, that hole in the carpet didn’t get there by magic!

So yes.  Long story short.. double check you lock the cage of your bun’s enclosure!

          Rabbits are very clever creatures!

I do think this belongs in The Lounge Section though – I am going to move it there.

Bwahaha, the day after I bought chacha home from her spay, it was mothers day! I wake up to give her breakfast and I scream! Chacha pushed her xpen open and went under this enclosure in the living room she likes to lounge under, and was – lounging! Lol!

Don’t xpens have doors on them though?  I’ve never seen one up close so I don’t know!

Moose’s does, Monkey’s doesn’t. But I usually step over them lol.

The ones that I have do have a “door” of sorts that slides up. The pens are supposed to be able to be attached to a certain type of cage. Mine have never messed with them.

Eddie climbed on top of his cage when I first got him so I had to have my dad make a board to sit on top to block him. And Lolli escaped from her pen before they were bonded. Eddie was freaking out. He’s all like “mom! we got a serious problem! a serious problem mom! the girl escaped!” I wasn’t paying much attention so he was freaking out. Then the next thing i see is Lolli hopping across the living room! LOL

I’ve tripped over Monkey’s pen a couple times, got a nasty cut on my leg once cuz of it.. yet I still do it >.> In the pen’s defense, my long skirt had gotten caught on it, making me trip.

oh my goodness… i just read your thread yesterday and last night i decided it was easier to not lock the buns xpen because its a pain to unlock it every time i go in there, well…. i woke up this morning to a feeling of someone hopping on my bed, i look over and saw our kitten Clara and thought she was just running around but then i felt it again but Clara hadn’t moved i sit up to find lulu hopping around my bed like nothings wrong and mocha laying next to his cage… once i get them in the cage and lock it, mocha runs and slams his head on the door ( poor boy) and lulu goes over and chews on the bars! silly buns!
