Recently we built a new pen for Linus so he wouldn’t be cooped up during the night and while we were out running errands during the day.
We’re actually planning on expanding it, but haven’t quite gotten around to it yet. It’s about 8 feet by 8 feet currently. We have his hidey box in there too, along with his cage where he used to spend his nights.
I was wondering if it was necessary to keep the cage in the pen? His litter box is in the cage, but I don’t think it would be much of a difference for him as long as the litter box was kept in the same general area. what are you opinions on this? Also any suggestions to further improve this pen?

That pen is awesome! I bet he LOVES it! I have a cage inside my pen, but I converted the whole thing into one big litter box. Since he has so much room he may not use the cage much. My bunnies would be too lazy to jump into the cage then get into the litter box! *shakes head*

Oh and that raisin box sitting on the ledge would be fair game!

What a great idea! Maybe I’ll do the same thing ^^ I did notice he only uses the cage when he goes into his litter box anyhow.

You could even remove the wire top, and just use the whole plastic bottom as a litterbox… altho he might not need that much space and you’d be going thru more litter. Unless you made it a combo litterbox/hayrack…

That pen looks great! He isn’t chewing on the wood framing?

I noticed a little chewing this morning, so I was going to rub a little ivory soap on the wood. Would that help prevent him from chewing?
I like your idea of the hay rack and litter combo! I’ll definitely try that ^^

whoa! I give you ten out of ten for this pen!

About the chewing, I have the same problem and what I do is just attach a second beam beside the structural one so that they can chew without breaking the whole thing. Wouldn’t go with the soap personally, it may make the bunny sick.

Today we went out and got some new toys that would be more appealing for him to chew on rather than the actual structural part of the cage. So far it’s working I’ll keep checking on it. Thanks for the 10 out of 10, Petzy! ^^

Well today I rearranged some things around in the cage so Linus would have more free room, so here are some updated pictures. ^^ I transformed his cage into the litterbox also.

Oh, how I envy that 8×8′ space you’ve given him, how I’d love to have that much space to give my own. What bun wouldn’t love that? I love your setup and obviously Linus does too. I imagine he races around in all that open space and does binkies? He looks perfectly acclimated to his cage-turned-litterbox, too. Congratulations. Are you thinking of giving him a companion to share all that space?

That’s a great amount of space for him! I’m wondering how you get into the pen though? lol

He looks smallish so I’m wondering about the size of the holes on the fencing. Can he poke his head thru at all? If you find he does this, you could always add another layer of fencing with smaller holes just for the bottom half. It’s hard to tell from pics of course. In some the grid appears narrow and in others not so much.

@Lashkay- I’d love to give him a companion! However I think I’ll just hog him all to myself for now

@Jerseygirl- When looking at the front view, the right wall has a hinge and I can move the wall like a giant door. Originally we were going to make a smaller door but this was actually a smaller version of what we were planning because we weren’t sure if he would be able to fit his head through or get out so we were just testing this. We’re planning on making an addition to this space. ^^ From what I’ve seen, he doesn’t try to fit his head through, but if he does I’ll try that!

@BinkyBunny- Thanks! I’m glad you like it!
