Hello to All,

My name is Sarah, and my husband and I adopted a Chestnut Lionhead bunny back in May.  It was for my husband's birthday, though it was not a surprise gift.  Since getting married in '08, he's been interested in getting an animal, and for one who's grown up with animals my whole life, I was enjoying not taking care of anything for a little while.  Needless to say a bunny is what we decided to get after being animal-less for over a year.  Although my husband used to have bunnies when he was younger, I had never cared for a bunny before.  We bought a "Bunnies for Dummies" book so we could both know how best to care for our bunny, and that book plus our very knowledgeable breeder we adopted from have been great assets to caring for our lionhead.

Pippin Chocobo was born April 5, 2009, and he is 8 months old.  He is neutered, and I will tell you I was a very watchful and concerned bunny mom making sure he made it through the next couple of weeks okay.  It was very recent, just before Thanksgiving.  I would say recovery time for them is definitely different than with a dog or cat, whom I've had experience being around.  Pippin is a very sweet bunny, litter trained by the breeder and so transition was very easy in that sense.  His energy has calmed somewhat since getting neutered, but he seems to be building slowly back up to his normal self of wanting to run full speed around the living room and do a binky right into your leg because you couldn't stop your walk fast enough before he caught up to you!  He and I play a game of chase, where he chases me around.  He likes to circle around my legs, and he finds clothing fascinating if we try to dress in front of him.  I attempted to do christmas wrapping the other day and I couldn't get anything done with him around!  He wanted to hop on the wrapping paper, dig it, and chew on the gift I was wrapping.  So I will have to do a little explaining on some chew marks to my sister-in-law when she opens her gift, haha.

Bunny slave is a new term to me, but I have to say that definitely describes me.  Not knowing how I'd be able to bond with an animal who is so much more silent than a dog or a cat, I have definitely found my heart full of love for my Pippin.  He's preparing me for motherhood.  He is a great gift of life and love, and I treasure him so   Though he was originally a birthday gift to my husband (who is also hugely fond of him) I'd have to say I'm the one who's really been treated the most.

Ohhh he is beautiful!!

Sounds like he's a lucky bun. This time last year i had 1 rabbit now I have 9! It's an addiction, they may be silent but they show such love and fascination.

thank you all very much! Yes, Pippin has most definitely taught me about bunny love. I have to add one more CUTE story to add. It's only happened twice, and only to me, but while Pippin has been out and my husband and I have been on the couches talking to one another, within a split nanosecond Pippin has bounded off the floor and used my body as the briefest touch pad to ascend to the top of the couch where he likes to perch sometimes or run across. The first time, all I had time to do was let out a gasp and freeze (which I'm thankful is my automatic reaction to being startled) as I feel fur brush across my face and tightly scrunched up eyes. The second time, closing my eyes was all the reaction my body had time to prepare for before I felt his fur brush past and get my brain to realize he had just leaped past me. A few seconds later comes the sensation to my legs that it had just come into recent contact with something, though no contact so hard as for me to use the description of him clawing into my leg, as a cat or a dog. Don't get me wrong, my legs have had their fair share of getting scratched from a leap Pippin made (usually to get off me after I got him to eat treats off me), but that has given me the firsthand experience to know how nimble bunnies are capable of being.

Welcome again. Pippin Chocobo is an adorable name for him. He looks alot like Kahlua, one of the forum leaders bunnies - though we usually can't see her face for all the fur.
Whoever says "It's only a rabbit" has obviously never loved a rabbit.

He is a beautiful bunny! Congrats on the new addition! It sounds like he has already stole your heart!

Rabbits are different than cats and dogs, but they certainly are not boring!
