Ok I built a NIC cage for my rabbits, three levels all great… and then the buggers decided that it would be a fun idea to EAT the thing!  Twice since they moved in I have had to replace zip ties or a square as they have chewed the plastic coating off it or pulled the wire apart.  Maybe the NIC squares in Australia are not as great with rabbits as they are overseas?

        Anyway, I found this http://easysell.com.au/showad.php?id=20167

The lady I board my bunnies with also sells these for the same price and I would buy off her, I would have to save up and this would be a new year gift to my bunnies but not sure it is big enough.  Also how would they get in and out of it, I guess it would have to sit on the floor and then if I want to put them outside of a bit I could put them on the stand so the dogs could not get to them… but still not sure on the size….. (I know that the litter tray is WAY to small but I guess I would just move their litter tray in for them.

        So suggestions would be great.

Argh also heard about two rabbits that need a new home, desexed, male and female, up to date with their shots… thinking about it bad bad bad me!

Pulled the wire apart?! My goodness.
From pic it’s hard to tell how big it actually is but I’m thinking maybe a bit small for 2. Plus, you don’t know how big Anya is going to get. What about lining the condo walls with wire mesh? You’d still be able to see in and out but lil teeth can’t get to the ties or wires. I’ve not done the condo thing so don’t know if that would work or not. What about asking if you can rent one from this lady to see how it would work out? You could make a ramp up to the door way using wood ans maybe some grid sides – though I don’t think that’s necessary at that height.

I know I came home today at lunch and both had chewed a hole in the wire and where sticking their heads out! I will try the lining and see if that helps.

Have you considered just getting a puppy xpen instead?

In Australia we have vaccination available for calici virus (Viral Hemorrhagic Disease).  Domestic rabbits are at risk here because this virus is deliberately released here to ‘control’ wild rabbit populations.

I think it’s too small for 2 buns. It would probably be big enough for just one small bun, but with the two they really need more room. I second Beka’s option of getting an xpen! It’ll give them twice as much room.

NIC means neat Idea cubes, (I was confused at first too) They are also called organize it cubes.

X-pen’s are expensive, but they are well worth it. If you want more room for less money and want to use an x-pen, then you could always use the wall as one or two sides of the enclosure, thats what I have done.

Here is my very inexpensive idea….(I have got to get around to getting a picture of it!) I took my basic rabbit cage and in it I have Willie’s litter and food, water. I have the door open and off of it, I have a pen my husband made for me. He took a large metal dog crate and unhooked the cube, then reconnected it to make a very large, collapsable pen! We can take it outside, or anywhere. Right now it makes Willie’s Larger pen. Inside of it I have a few toys and a rabbit condo with a ramp made from cardboard that he loves more than anything else in the world (from this site) worth every penny! My mom gave me the dog crate, she didn’t use it anymore. It didn’t cost me a cent! So basically with a couple crates, you could do a LOT with them! If you can find someone who has one, and doesn’t use it anymore, that would be awesome!

Here in upstate NY the only thing they need is rabies and that is if they will have outdoor play and/or have to be kept somewhere while you are away.

Anyone know what size Xpen would work for two rabbits? Replacing the squares is starting to get really annoying!

One 4×4 foot xpen is adequate for two buns, with daily exercise time (Not sure on how this converts to metric). Xpens are very stable (obviously, they are designed to contain large dogs!) I’ve done the NIC grid fence thing before… and it works… but zipties are always popping off and it’s more rickety.

Beka27 – my issue is that Bugz and Anya chew on the NIC grid that I set up so I have to replace them, I can’t see to find stronger ones so replacing them the only option and it’s getting to be a pain! So I think an Xpen may work for me

An xpen will be more resilient. They don’t have a plastic coating… is that what they are chewing off?

If it is the zipties they’re mostly chewing off, you can use j-clips on the grids instead. They come in a range of sizes and uncoated and cannot be chewed off. They’re cheap but you have to get j-clip pliers, too.
