hi everyone!  I’ve been a member for several months (since I got my first bunny , and i just started a website that I hope can be helpful both to bunny rescues and to anyone who might like to help bunny causes but has limited time and/or transportation for this.

it’s called ifihadahammer.org, and it focuses on online volunteering, although it also covers requests for non-monetary material resources and for on-site volunteers.  If you’re a shelter and you could use some help keeping your website up to date, or editing your newsletter, etc., feel free to go on and post a request for assistance, or browse the volunteer services already offered by members.  If, like me, you’re a bunny lover without a car and with full-time work obligations who still wants to help, you can browse opportunities and/or post what you might be able to help with (e.g., editing and uploading photos for Petfinder, etc.).

I got the idea largely from my own experience taking photos of new bunnies and hamsters for an understaffed local rescue (where I got some of my own furries from), editing them on Picasa, and then posting them on Petfinder and the rescue’s website.  It’s just a few hours a month, but it’s a really fun way to get involved in improving the lives of bunnies even though I’m not able to visit the shelter regularly (not having a car).

Anyway, please feel free to check it out and take advantage if you could benefit from this!  (It’s completely free.)  http://www.ifihadahammer.org.  Let me know if you have any questions.

        thanks and take care,

        Meg

Wow. I would never have thought of this side of things – but anything “remote” volunteers can do to assist would free up the other volunteers that are in the Rescues so they can focus on other tasks. What a good idea! Kudos to you.

thank you so much! I do hope that rescues and volunteers can use it to find each other.

This is so cool! You should post this sort of thing on Craigslist and any other forums (dog, cat, rabbit, ect) you can find so that lots of people can use it.

thanks for this great suggestion! I just posted on my local Craigslist, thanks to you, but I noticed that they say the same person can’t post in more than one region or forum. so if anyone’s willing/able to post on your local Craigslist, that’d be awesome! here’s the info to paste in:

title: online volunteering! offer what you have, or ask for what you need.
                location: your computer, anywhere

                description:

ifIhadahammer.org is a new volunteering site that connects folks with time or resources — in any amount — with visionary NGOs around the world who could really put ’em to good use.

have an old camera you need to rehome? love to play with Picasa now and then? whatever you’ve got to offer — a dozen computers or a single beautiful photo, a couple of hours a week or a couple of hours a year — why not put this to work for a cause you care about?

could your organization use help with web development, logo design, copy editing, or anything else that could be done from home? come on over and post your requests! there’s also space for requesting on-site volunteers and non-monetary material resources.

go to http://www.ifihadahammer.org to get started. it’s all 100% free.
