I adopted Q-tip recently because her owner died. I was told she was litter box trained and this is the only reason I knew I could have her but she is not good at it. She doesnt go every where but likes to go right next to the box on my moms rug and I have 3 litter boxes out

I really do not have the time to sit with her so she can be out and to watch her like a hawk. As soon as I turn my back she seems to pee always.

My plan was that since she was trained she could come out for a long time while I was spending time with my other animals at night and then I could spend some time with her in the end. Now she hardly gets any time out of the cage. If I had known she wasnt trained I never would have got her due the fact that I have so many other animals who need to come out and because I dont have the time to train her. And I mean I really don’t.

Q-tip is  very sweet and is not afraid of our 3 rambunctious labs. I want her in a home that doesnt have so many animals that need one on one time and with someone who has the time to retrain her.

She is a PEW bunny, 4 years old and spayed. My mom will not tolerate her peeing on the rug and there is no other place in our house to accomodate her except the basement and I dont want her down there alone. You have to introduce veggies slow as she will get poopy butt. She is now living in Amesbury Ma.

I’m confused (that’s not new though!) Are you finding a home for her, or need help with her litter habits?

I am looking for a home for her that has more time to supervise her time out and try to train her. I dont have that time so she doesnt gt much time out each day. Thinking she was trained as that is what litter box trained meant to me at the time I figured she could be out alot unsupervised but now she cant. It isn’t fair to her.

Sometimes the litter box habits lapse when a bunny comes to a new environment. Keeping her penned up should actually aid in retraining her. Exercise time can just be in a small closed of or penned area with no absorbant materials in it. With all the new sights, smells and sounds and presence of other animals – it’s not surprising her habits have lapsed. It’s common for this to happen to many bunnies and they need a small refresher course – but I’d still say she is litter trained. What are her habits like in her actual cage?

              Q-tip – now that’s a unique name!!

she is a white bun and they named her q-tiip so I am just going to leave it. she pees in her box only in her cage but does do some poopies in ther cardboard type house thing. she doesnt poop on the floor outside the cage only pees. I will just keep trying to get her to pee in the outside box she just wont get as much time out. Not sure if she would be better in the basement with 24 hour time out or if I should keep her upstairs where she maybe gets 30-45 minutes per day

I’d keep her upstairs with shorter out time. Basements are just so unfriendly to bunnies. My guess is that if she’s peeing in her box in her cage but not outside of it, she’s currently making the new house hers. I’m not sure if she’s altered or not – that could have a lot to do with it. My guess is that her habits will improve over time. If you want, you could put down some old towels or sheets under the litter boxes where she usually pees. That way, she’ll get the satisfaction of marking the area and you’ll be able to clean it up easier.

                    Thaniks,

I put newspapers and puppy pads under the box and she did pee on the paper today. I was torn about the basement but the only bun I would put down there is maybe to better the life of a hutch bunny–at least they wouldnt be confined to a hutch anymore. Q-tip is fixed so that isnt the issue.
