        Hallo,

I am new here in this forum. I have a seven year old female rabbit. She recently lost her life long rabbit partner. She is not used to be alone and she is rather insecure right now.

Therefore, I am looking for a male, neutered rabbit within her age ( +\- 2 years). She lives (currently alone) in a 150 sqf secured outdoor habitat. I can submit pictures if requested. We live in Charlotte , NC.

If you know an organization or somebody who is searching for a new home for their rabbit in our area, please let me know.

I feed only grain free food, I have a vet specialized in rabbits around the corner.

If you have further question, please let me know.

        Thank you for your help.
        Tanya

I know that the Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care has rabbits. I adopted a bunny from there years ago, but it looks like they only have a female right now. You could still contact them and ask to be put on a list if other rabbits (adult male) come in. You should also check petfinder.com. You put in the type of animal you are seeking and you can choose the gender and age too. Choose the 100 mile search to see more rabbits in area shelters and rescues.

I know that Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, outside of Charlotte (Indian Trail, NC), has taken in a few bunnies over the years, although they recently decided not to take them any more and concentrate on rescuing birds. They were looking for homes for the rabbits that they had left. I don’t know if they have all been adopted or not. http://carolinawaterfowlrescue.com/index.html

Spartanburg Humane usually has rabbits, but they just have one female there now. They don’t list on Pet Finder, so you have to go directly to their site or contact them. One of my rabbits was adopted from there. They unfortunately no longer spay and neuter rabbits.

Many of the rescues will adopt out rabbit to indoor homes only, but I doubt that any of the shelters/humane societies have that requirement. You can also speak to your vet or any rabbit vets in the area. Sometimes people who are looking for homes for rabbits ask their vets for help.

I know of a few vets in the Charlotte area, hopefully this list is still current. You may want to contact them to see if they know of someone looking to rehome their rabbit.

Since your bunny is alone now, is there any way that you can bring her into the house?

Hello and thank you for your answer.

I have already contacted a lot of organisations in our area. Unfortunately, there are no males free for adoption. Some organisations don’t like the idea to leave a rabbit in an outside cage. Ours is completely secured.

Our female was in the house for the last weeks but she got very tied inside. She lived her whole live outside and I have the feeling she is much happier outside. Inside she was hiding under the bed most of the time and now she seems more active.

I will definitely go through the list of vets. I have contacted our vet and she has a female rabbit for adoption. I don’t think this is ideal.

I also checked on craigslist but there are a lot of breeders. I will keep on searching.

Thank you again for your help.

            Thank you.

              Hi Tanya,

While I am 100% in favor of adopting a homeless pet from a rescue or shelter, and think it should always be a first choice, the fact that there are very few homeless rabbits in your area is actually kind of a good problem

I was wondering if you had thought of asking a breeder if they have any “retired” bucks that they don’t really want anymore? I don’t know much of anything about rabbit breeding, but you might be able to find an older male who is used to the outdoor life that way, if your bunny doesn’t seem to be adapting to life inside. He probably wouldn’t be neutered already, though. If you did this, he would probably get more attention and a happier lifestyle with you.

Tanya, did you have any luck finding your rabbit a companion? When I checked on the usual sites I look on, it seem so limited in your area. (petfinder, petharbor).
I did come across this site this week. RescueMe.org. Another to keep an eye on perhaps.
