Quick question for outside play area

  Hi everyone! So I am going to set up Addie and Esther’s outside play area today and have to go buy some soil for it! I just want to make sure what I use is not harmful for them. Would an organic potting mix be the safest option? I am going to be planting some herbs in a kiddie pool for them to forage and dig in and just want to make sure that the soil won’t be harmful for them. Thanks so much!

  Commercially sold bagged soil is often based on peat and has additives like chalk and fertilizers. In some places you can get plain peat which is used for rhododendron and azaleas etc, I e plants that want a low pH and dont tolerate normal fertilizers. That could be a safe option.
  
  I used bark chips once when I made an outdoors dig box.
