On June 9th we are moving to our grandparents house (until ours is built) and they will have to stay in my grandparents basement. I am so glad they are letting them in the house! They do not allow any animals in the house at all, but the only other place they could stay is in the garage and my grandpa goes out at 6 am and uses power tools so that wouldn’t work! I am so thankful for them… Anyways, they have to stay in a cage the whole time, their can’t be to much smell or mess, and their will be a tarp underneath them. I am trying to decide what condo to use. They will only be in the condo when it is raining or too hot, otherwise they will be in their outside pen.

Condo #1 (this is an old picture before they where bonded)

This condo is smaller them my current one but it contains the mess VERY well! It is hard for hay to fall through the wire and if they pee none will get outside of the condo! BUT, it is only 2×3. I am not sure if that is big enough for 2 buns, even if it is just at night, What do you guys think. Also it would be easier to clean then the one I have now.

        Condo #2

This condo is 2  feet longer (a 2×5) But is not as clean. If they ever have an accident on the top level pee gets all over the wall and soaks into the baseboard. It is also harder to clean because of my hurt knee I am not allowed to squat so I have to sit inside the condo to clean the bottom level, Also, since it has such big holes the hay falls out very easily.

What would you guys do? I really want to prove that I can keep it clean and not smelly, but, I don’t want the buns to be in to small of a cage! They normally sleep all night any way.

Hmm, thats a tough desicion. If it was me, I would have to go with #1. If your knee is bad and you are unable to get down there to clean Condo #2, I’m sure noone else will WANT to clean it for you. So it will leave a mess. And if pee sinks in the wall and baseboard, I am sure your grandparents wouldn’t be very happy.
Just my opinion, good luck! But I am sure people will come up with ideas to help with cleaning.

Hmmmm – I would almost have to say condo #2 because I would be concerned if they are in there all night in the summer (not sure if you have AC….) that they would get extremely hot because there isn’t a flow through for air…..

Also, are you positive your rabbits sleep all night? I know that’s Lola’s favorite destruction time (goodbye, cardboard boxes! you never stood a chance!) and she sleeps all day….

You can also easily take a vacuum with an attachment to either condo to clean them. Just pick up the big pieces of hay and you can suck up all the rest – stray poos and all! Just make sure you empty the canister to get out all the shedded hair – I have extremely long hair and probably shed more than the rabbit so we empty ours pretty frequently. This is what we do for Lola every other day and it works wonders and keeps the smell down and only takes 5 min tops! She is also crazy and for whatever likes to beg to be vacuumed herself….I’m sure that would scare the poo out of any other bun. She’s OCD like her mama!

Just some things to think about!

I am not allowed to vaccum up hay as i clogged the vaccumlast week. also i wouldnt be able to use my grandmas. I would have to sweep everything up. It will only be at night and it is very cool in the basement as it is cement floor. also, they mostly are awake at around 6-7am so i guess i may not be up

hmmmm – maybe a tiny hand vac would be a good purchase — you can get then on sale for like $20. I just know they have been super helpful in cleaning up my buns messes. I just pick up the large hay pieces first before I vacuum so I don’t clog it. It really is more clogged by my and her hair. :/

I think either home would work – as long as the are cool and happy.

I would go with condo #1, its easier to clean, so won’t be hard on your knee. if they are out in a pen all day anyway, you don’t need the larger space for nights. It’s not permanent anyway

Bm: I have thought about it but that wouldnt help because i would still have to sit on the floor! I want to buy a shop vac for my new set up the buns will have but I dont have much money now.

I think #1! The c&c condo would obviously give them more space, but especially since you dont want your grandparents to have a big mess to clean up, i think it would be nice if they had the easiest cage to maintain. Plus if they get to go outside, i would think thats plenty of room if its only for a short period of time!

Sounds good, I was going to say condo 1, because you don’t want to make your grandparents angry if things get dirty! (and also it will be easier on your hurt knee). – Oh and by the way I love how condo 2 is underneath your lofted bed! Haha! Such a neat way to save space.
